Great story, I wish we heard more of this kind of thing. A nice reminder that it's just a game and there are things much more important. Props to him for doing this for his teammate, and many thoughts going out to Logan and his family.

although I am not a fan of the team you will soon be joining, I am a fan of the selfless act on the field. Well done son, that kid will remember that moment forever.
They talked about this on 97.1 The Fan this evening... didn't mention (or didn't know) that Michael Ferns was a Michigan recruit. There are things bigger in life than football... and even if Mr. Ferns will eventually be a skunk bear... He's still a class act.
Having lost my dad years ago, I can only imagine what something like this would mean to myself personally. Good job kid! I'm sure this meant all the world to both the other kid and to his father as he was watching from heaven!
Great story - classy kid. Great to see a selfless act like that - giving up a TD on his stat line for a more important purpose. He's the kind of TSUN recruit I can root for 364 days a year.
I came on this thread to make a sarcastic comment about David Dawson doing it right by de-committing but can't follow through it. That was a touching moment and I'll root for Ferns for 11 of his 12 games for the next 4 years (figure that I can root against the other 10 players on his team he's on the field with).
Let's remember this great kid is an Ohio kid, who is wearing a Buckeye inspired scarlet and gray uni...just don't remind me of this great story if he does eventually dawn the maize and blue.
I prefer to credit the team rather than the individual, but I know how everyone likes to elevate the individual. He was following his coach's instructions. Ferns is one guy; the entire team had to work to be in a position to pull this off. Let's not beatify a kid over one play that should be made by anyone playing the game at the high school level.
I live in St. Clairsville where Ferns is currently playing.
Thats my old high school..Way to go Red Devils.Look out for these guys in football playoffs and basketball this year.I believe the basketball team is mostly seniors, made the final four last year and the whole team is on the honor roll.Way to represent the Ohio Valley !
Wow, that actually brought tears to my eyes. What a great thing to do.
Class act right there
Won't be able to root for him if he goes north, but got to love a kid like that as a person.
another example of "team" sporting bringing out the best in humans. Way to be St. Clairesville High!

Great gesture, completely selfless. He handled his recruitment with class, as well. I can see why Urban and co. wanted him in S&G.
4-6 seconds of relentless effort
We sure raise 'em right in the great state of Ohio. Congratulations Mom and Dad on "coaching up" a remarkable young man.
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
Michael Ferns is the man. Enough said.
Classy
Wherever you are, there you be!
This only makes me wish more that he was a Buckeye.

Class of 2010.
That's a "grown ass man" move by that kid as Urban would say. Class, that's all there is to it.
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
I love this story! When you arrive at scUM remember "Stay classy my friend!" you are from OHIO!
Buckeye in PA purgatory
Can't say how much I like this enough. Class all the way around.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.

Great story. Thanks for sharing.
btw the question mark in the title can be turned into a period. I don't think there would be any objections. :)
