He played an amazing game filling in for Sabino! I am suprised no one noticed this. He may not have made any big plays off the top of my mind, but he did not have any key misses. He took out blockers on the run and helped in coverage in the pass. He is only a freshman and played a hell of a game in a big time atmosphere. Props to him!

i saw him but didn't notice any big plays. interesting how they lined him up though - nebraska was on the goal line and split 3 out wide, josh was lined up on the 2nd wide receiver. i guess they were anticipating a screen or wide run.
Agree. He definitely didnt look lost out there by any means though!
The fact that he played most of the game and we didn't recognize him goes to show how well he played. True big time players make big plays but as a freshman, all I ask for is not to be the player missing a tackle or making a mistake. Good job for him!
Right on... he's a smart kid, and he played smart football. He had been #15 up until last week apparently. #37 now. I commented on another thread that we should hope he gets an INT with a little space around him (in Bloomington maybe?), because he put up huge RB numbers at Olentangy H.S. I'm rooting for this kid, as he was a counselor at a camp my kids attended a few years ago... not a sports camp mind you, but a science and technology camp (Camp Invention).
Bogard was in on everything on ST.
I wonder if they moved Perry to 37 because he and Smith were on the same special teams units.
Kid has some size and reach withthose arms, looked good. On the little amount he was in Grant looked more comfortable to at SAM.
One question is why doesn't Doran Grant get some reps at STAR?
Just saw that per today's depth chart, Perry, Shazier, & Klein will be the starting LB's this week.
Tennbuckeye,
Where did you see that?
It was a tweet from Lori Schmidt:
Here's the link to the depth chart as of 10/8 (though it says "Unofficial", so it could change I suppose) Also, I read on twitter that Sabino could be out 4 weeks with a leg fracture.

not sure what he saw, but I remember a tweet that Sabino was ruled out for the game against Indiana.
Not too surprised he's starting due to Sabino's absence. He's been saying that he's gotten 2nd team reps at Sam Linebacker.

It's good to see Perry on the field and making a contribution...excited to see how he plays this saturday against Indiana. It's a shame Curtis Grant hasn't earned more playing time...#1 linebacker coming out of high school!!!
Josh Perry is going to be special. Excellent size and speed, state long jump finalist, was a kickoff return guy ( took some to the house) in HS at 6'4" 228. Played basketball which means footwork and agility. Smart and hard working. Good character. Everything you could want. I am not surprised he is the first freshman lb option in a good crop of freshman lbs.
It will be nice to see a Frosh getting some PT, although Coach Meyer did say we'd likely see more Nickel Defense this weekend. Regardless, I'm hopeful he'll contribute in a big way in his limited opportunities.
Question to me is who comes out for the STAR? Is it the typical Mike or do they keep in Klein and sit Perry. Indiana is a good game to figure that out!
The more PT these freshman LB's can get this year, the better we will be next year. We will be very young in the front 7 (losing 2 starting LB's - granted one is Klein but he played pretty well vs nebraksa - and probably all 4 starting DL) and any experience freshmen can gain this year will be priceless.
the kids are playing their tail off, and the coaches are screwing it up! - JLS
I recorded the game and went back to watch how Perry played, he did extremely well in coverage which is really hard to do as a freshman. I was surprised he was the first man up but he did a hell of a job based on the circumstances.
