Jeremy Birmingham retweeted James Quick tonight. Quick said he will be committing on January 5th. Hopefully that will be good for the Buckeyes. Hopefully since we can't play in a bowl game that will give Urban more time to talk to him before he commits.

That will be a nice birthday present for me if we can get Quick
was just gonna post this hopefully gives Strong enough time to pick his new school to coach at
Is that National Signing Day?
National Signing Day is February 6th I believe...
Edit: There are going to be a lot of bigger schools than L'ville come open, so I don't believe Strong will be able to resist. Possibly looking at UT, UK, Auburn, and Arkansas all in the SEC this year without coaches. I am hearing that Gruden is talking with UT behind the scenes tho.
I don't really think UK is a bigger job than UofL. Tennessee sure, Arkansas is marginally at best, they've had a handful of good teams in the last 10 years. Granted, its a big conference, but meh, I don't know is it really bigger? I would almost think Purdue is a bigger job than UK football but I guess I could be wrong.
Right now with the media it's all about perception... The media hypes the SEC so much. I'd see him taking a job at UT or Auburn. UK and Arkansas prob not. Bobby Petrino is going to get one of those jobs most likely. Strong will have options at the end of the year tho.
Charlie Strong is an Arkansas native.
The 2012 National Champions.
Agree with both of you guys and that the only splash hires available are Strong and Mullen if he leaves and the list of jobs will certainly grow so it will get interesting. I could see Texas perhaps opening up they only put up w mediocrity for so long in TX and ive also heard that depending on how Dallas Cowboys season goes theres been chatter Saban may get the richest coaching contract ever from Jerry. Also I did hear that Chizik will get a possible look at from Meyer depending how Luke does down the stretch and that UK insiders have said theyre ready to go all in for Petrino bc his past experience in KY. As for Gruden i dont think hell ever go the college route im sure Haslem from the Browns has made contact already cause Shurmur is dead man walking right now.
It is not National Signing Day, it is the day of the Under Armour All-American Game
if strong is leaving, then that must mean teddy is transferring. or in other words, my louisville coworkers say strong isnt leaving uofl til teddy graduates.
ill applaud Strong if he stays but their not changing conferences and the most important thing is that money talks 99% of the time in college football
He looks like the perfect WR for the screens where the guy can get 8 yards everytime. If you cheat up he can run by you.. Our WRs have improved but you can always use another fast guy!
imo spooner i agree with you, however, the money will be there next year too and the year after, and i believe he made a promise to teddy when he recruited him away from the U, and got him to commit to louisville. and my coworkers are diehard fans, so perhaps they are right. myself i can care less what strong does.
question for anyone. if quick is committing to the good guys, what happens to timmons?
fyi and from a person within the program is that James had a talk with Coach Smith last night and he announces a committment date today = good news. i havent gotten info from this person before so take with caution as i will but others ive talked w stated when he speaks we should listen. so again take cautiously w fingers crossed and hope that hes right as i will never try to just put stuff out there for the sake of doing so but this was too good not to at least pass along.
I believe Timmons would still have a shot, but it would be a long shot. If Quick committed to us, that would be 2 spots gone because Gibson is a lock when he gets his test scores in. I could see the staff taking 3 with all of the spots that have opened up. I'd like to see a North or Stevens type WR in this class tho.
One of Rivals guys yesterday wasn't shy to point out they thought Quick is headed OSUs way.
If Timmons hasn't gotten an offer yet, I doubt he will ever get one. We seem to be in the mix for a lot of recruits that the staff must feel better about than Timmons. We would have to miss on a whole lot of kids for Timmons to get offered.
The way Bridgewater slings the ball, he may only be at UofL one more season anyway. That dude is really good. Every year there are big jobs that open up too, so Strong will always have the opportunity to move. Plus, who knows what college football will look like in a year. UofL may just move to another conference yet. Those kind of things happen pretty quickly and with little notice lately.
I'd take Quick over Gibson for this reason. Gibson is having trouble with his grades in high school. That doesn't bode well for what we can expect of him at the next level. My hope is for the BUCKS to land Quick, Dawson, Johnson, Bell and Mitchell. That my friends would be BIG. A way out there thought.....with the way Texas is playing this year after all the pre-season hype, what if Mack got the axe???? Strong would certainly be a candidate since I think their heir to the spot left for Florida a few years ago.
jerryt-go bucks
Not sure that I can jump on board with everyone saying that Chizik (and Dooley as well) are gone, especially as both have potentially strong recruiting classes coming in. Chizik has two more probable (maybe three) losses coming this year, but I still see him returning next year. I'm guessing Strong to Arkansas, Saban stays put, and Mullen, well, mulls things over; his situation may be the most interesting as he's the real deal. If he can beat either 'Bama or LSU on the road, I wouldn't be shocked to see Texas come calling.
With all this in mind, I wonder if we keep a couple of spots open until after the bowl games for any 11th hour coaching changes and subsequent decommitments?
The grass is not always greener in someone elses yard. Youre likely to have a yard full of Dandelions if you cannot take care of your own. Just sayin. Im not a huge fan of flippers or crab grass.
Quick, Stevens, and North are my top three WRs. I can actually see Quick or Stevens (one of the two...not both), Gibson and Timmons/Elder. I can see 22 in this class. Which would only leave 2 WRs and one Ath (with one Olineman and one LB). I could be very wrong and I'm in no way a recruiting expert (just started really following closley this last year). I couldn't see UFM using all the extra room this year with all that talent in 2014 class. That's where the Stud LB's will come from not to mention other positions as well.

I don't mind flips so much really. We'll have plenty from last years class that will be great players here at Ohio State. Plus, if a kid commits to one coach then he leaves, he should absolutely have the right to take off somewhere else. I love the kids who came on to our class when we were in turmoil, but I wouldn't have held it against any who took off. Some, like Kalis did, and other than his Twitter comments after that fact, it didn't really bother me.
Does Gibson have actual grade problems or is it just standardized test scores? I mean, that's 2 different animals all together. If he's getting it done in the classroom but struggles with a test, that doesn't mean he's a bad student. I want Gibson because, if not for the test scores he'd already be a commit, and he, by many accounts was the best player at FNL. I'd be ok with Quick and Gibson finding their way to Columbus because they seem to be the 2 guys the staff really wants the most.
Yes Strong is from Arkansas, but he went to Central Arkansas. How does that make him a fan of the Razorbacks? No really link there, just fodder!
Tennessee if viable but I really don't think they let go of Dooley.
Not Auburn because if he was going to go to an SECW team, it would be Arkansas. Why would anyone want to go against LSU and Alabama every year when they can own the Big East and go to a BCS bowl each year, perhaps even get into the playoff. Going to the SECW would be career suicide in the next 4-5 years. Wait on that one.
Louisville is most likely going to a BCS bowl this year. They will get the $20 million from that (most of it at least) and will throw any amount of money at Strong to stay. With Bridgewater and some decent recruits coming in, Strong will have a formidable team. don't look into those 3 recruits that decommited in August. That was an anomoly, not to mention 2 were 3* and 1 was a 2*. Not a huge loss for him. Strong is getting into the 4* territory with recruiting. Although Quick would probably be the highest ranked recruit he would get.
FWIW: Everything I'm hearing about the Gruden rumors with Tennessee is that it's being way overplayed. Make no mistake about. He wants to coach in the NFL again. The only way I hear he would consider coaching in college is if an NFL job doesn't come his way. After this season there will be several NFL jobs available, including probably Cleveland, with a new owner who will be willing to pay top dollar for his services.
Okay but say Strong does stay, does James beleive that he will stay another four years. I doubt it.
Squirrel Master, didn't you claim Quick would be the next Buckeye commit?
As time goes on, I'm liking Quick coming to us more and more. Every day seems to pose more uncertainty for Louisville, while we keep winning and stabilizing.
@Btalbert - With Gibson it is about grades before the start of this season he put all his time into football and social life rather than class. He has changed that around and understands now that you have to focus on both. Not sure what his grades look like currently but I wouldnt be surprised either way if he is able to commit now or has to spend a year at JUCO either route I believe still brings him to Columbus.
This doesnt help us in getting Quick, I dont know if Urban will hold open a scholarship slot to anyone other then Bell and Johnson at this point.
@Pierogyjim, First of all, I hate typing your name. What does it even mean?
Where in my discussion did you see anything about Quick? or are you trying to point out that Quick is saying he will commit a long time from now?
either way, you are incorrect sir! I said Vonn Bell will be the next one to commit! I have no idea when Quick will commit to where ever he goes.
but nice try in calling me out dude!
I know we need playmakers on offense, but I'm really concerned about linebacker depth. I'd love to take more than 1 more linebacker out of Mitchell, McMillan, and Trey Johnson if we have the ability to. Maybe just take 2 more receivers instead of 3 since we already have Marshall and Taivon Jacobs
By January 5th we should have a good idea of where Strong decides to go (or stay), and so by the time of the UA game (good call, Golden Buckeye), this decision shouldn't be much of a nail-biter, imo.
