Injuries

I cannot remember a time where I have seen as many Buckeye starters get assisted to the sidelines on a play or are downright injured for an extended period of time.  Am I the only one thinking this?  What is going on with the health on this team??!?!!

For the most part, there is no logical explanation for it.  I have been a part of many teams, both playing and coaching.  About once every 10 to 12 years it seemed like the injury bug visited us in a major way during the season.  It was like the 12 year locust plague.  We conditioned the same as other years, did the same warm ups, stretches, routines.   But, for some reason those years just jumped up and bit us.  My sophomore season at OSU was like that.  We had come off a great '70 season with the likes of Rex Kern et.al as seniors.  We were loaded with talent, but the injury bug hit us.  Even lost to Northwestern in the shoe.  It just seemed like every week another starter or two and a couple of replacements would get banged up either in the games or at practice.  We rebounded from that and went to the Rose Bowl the following 2 years, with very few major injuries.

This year seems to be much like that year.  Remember, we don't even hear about all of the injuries.  We were all surprised when Boren was moved to LB, but the move was necessitated by a decimated LB crew.  The low number of LB's actually able to practice was a surprise to everyone, and continues to be to this day.  Heck, Perry was assisted off the field yesterday, continuing the woes at LB.

You would like to be able to pick out a reason for it.  I have long believed that too much weight training can have an impact on injuries - but, that is when it is not done in conjunction with agility training.  (too much muscle with out flexibility can lead to a lot of pulls and tendon/ligament problems).  Mickey's work outs seem to have the right about of diversity, so I don't really think that is the case.  Who knows?  Could be the football gods trying to teach Urban & Co a lesson.  At any rate, it is seasons like this when those coaches really do earn their living!!!!

How many buckeyes are injured already this season?  i know the LB corp is awfully thin, and we also lost a few starters on special team.  Hall/Sabino are out, Shazier/Simon/Williams are battling injuries.  Big Hank seem to get into one of those hard to get up mode every game.  anyone else am i missing?

Cornerbacks are playing injured.  The running backs have been dinged, particularly Hall.  The D has been decimated by normal standards.  We hear about the starters - Shazier, Simon, Sabino, Williams, but the real problem has been the ones we don't hear about - the number of backups who are walking injured who can not go.   In past years we had at least 2 and a half deep along the D Line healthy and contributing, this year we are lucky just to have one funcitoning unit.  Fields was in yesterday because of an injury to Philly Brown.  Brax is no where near his preseason health.  By coaching standards there are a lot of dings.  You always seem to have lots of minor injuries, but the injuries we do have are affecting our play, hence causing a lot of alarm among the fans as is evidenced by the dump on the coaches rhetoric that has been flowing around all the blogs lately.  Every team has injuries, I think we have more than our share.

Anyone know for sure if we get Hall back this week?
