It's because momma's cooking really IS that good. Outside of one good game against VT, this team is awful as usual. 14-13 loss against Syracuse, 31-17 loss to Youngstown State to begin the year, 2-3 record at this point (with games against Louisville, Notre Dame and Rutgers upcoming, they'd be lucky to finish .500)--need I say more?

I get what you're saying, but they have a new coaching staff there. No one expects them to be good right now. Besides, the present state of a team and their wins and losses isn't what a coach tries to get a kid to buy into. They are probably trying to sell recruits on what they are trying to build with the program and how a Foster or a Johnson can help them out.
Let's not forget that Paul Chryst has put so many offensive linemen in the NFL Draft. I could understand if Dorian Johnson goes there. As for Foster, I think it's between Pitt and Alabama.
The South will NOT rise again!
@Tenn That's perfectly valid. But even if we're arguing potential I don't see how Pitt would even be in the ballpark of an OSU at this point, which was the point I was making (comedically). If their choice is between OSU and Pitt (which many say it is), what Pitt is building is a .500 team. I was simply being sardonic, wasn't meant as a serious point. For many the hometown allure is bigger than championship potential (ala Stefon Diggs last year).
Well said, if they stay its because they want to stay close to
home instead of wanting to go to the better school.
Or maybe they choose Pitt because of the allure of a certain alum:
Tenn: I fail to see the "allure" your pointing to...
"Attack the Strong, Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead!"
-Former OSU S&C Coach Lichter
Did I say allure? I meant to say manure. My bad.
^Hahah Tenn! My favorite Mark May quote of the night (paraphrased) "Nebraska will beat Ohio State...they beat Wisconsin last week." Because beating Wisconsin takes skill these days? lol. I would be surprised if May even watches any of the games these days. I think he just sleeps in that suit, wakes up and makes the same picks he made 5 years ago.
@Tenn, I almost downvoted you for posting such an ugly photo, I then upvoted your manure comment. I can't stand that picture!! :)
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
He's probably selling them on that early 80s glory and making it stock this time...until if course his first 10 win season when he jumps to the open mid tier sec school...
"Hometown" hero, lead the return to glory, instant playing time, they share practice facilities with the Steelers don't they? Chryst's linemen in the NFL, especialy for Johnson it's not a hard sell......
Agree. Chryst is good at developing NFL linemen. Plus, there is the allure of starting/playing right away. Maybe they'd want to start for 3-4 years, as opposed to just 2-3 at a place with more O-line talent (it feels weird to say that, doesn't it?)
1) Pitt does have a storied history. It's not like this is a school that has recently risen to prominence (not that they are very good now). They get quite a bit of support from boosters. People in Western PA really like Pitt Athletics.
2) They are moving to a much more competitive league in the ACC.
3) Penn State is down and Ohio State is recruiting more nationally. Tress would routinely steal about 4 Penn guys each year. Meyer will still dip in but probably not at the same rate as Tress. Add in Penn State being gone and all the sudden Pitt is the premier program in a talent rich state.
4) It is a pretty good school.
I really don't care about D.Johnson because I don't think he would live up to whatever hype he has and with the 2014 class of lineman I think we can do better but for R.Foster we need him for the sole reason of being a playmaker
Some of these posts about recuits are so stupid and borderline racist. Does this board have any actual mods?
As to the comment above, I don't really see anything that is borderline racist, I don't agree with all of them, but racist? ... care to elaborate?
As for the original post, and yes I am presuming a down vote for this, but I don't agree with your logic. If you take that further then we should never question a recruits chocie to go to Alabama or a handful of other schools that are arguable currently better than us. Not to say that we won't get there soon, but it just seems a little silly.
If something above was racist, I missed it too.
@OSU2002Grad -- The only thing I can figure that you might be talking about is that I said "momma's cooking"? I'm white and I love my momma's cooking lol. Maybe it's a rural thing. No racial motive was intended, sorry that you read that into it.
@Strawman -- I can definitely understand the arguments you're making. I guess it always just blows my mind that people in a competitive sport would opt out of championship-level competition (particularly playing for Championships). But the topic was meant to be non-serious, anyhow. I understand how the "hometown hero" draw might be appealing. I can also understand how Paul Chryst might be appealing as an OL coach, but let's be honest, Wisconsin was developing NFL lineman long before Chryst got there. Was Chryst even considered their OL coach? I know he was a Tight Ends coach and after that their Offensive Coordinator. But I thought during that time he was classified as their OC/QB's coach? I've heard others refer to him as their OL coach, though. So I admit I'm not clear on that.
Edit: Bob Bostad was their OL coach and is currently at Pitt with Chryst.
I think that and losing so much is why wisky is down so much
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
If Foster and Johnson pick Pitt of tOSU then that just leaves room for us to secure committments from Wr's that we badly need.
Because I couldn't go for three. -Woody-
If you were there, would you have any concerns about going to the NFL? If they go to Pitt, they start or get some playing time their freshman year. Pitt and Chryst has put lots of talent in the NFL, even recently. There is no reason for them to think that if they have the talent they won't make it at Pitt. So the only draw for OSU is really a national title. So if they'd rather have their family close over a NT, then Pitt will be great for both no issues.
Pitt has been successful the past decade getting guys in the draft:

I'd rather them want a NT and come to OSU, but cant blame them for staying home.
Mark May would declare that Pitt continues to dominate Ohio State in recruiting and would obviously be B1G champions if they were in the conference.
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
Mark May would declare the eventual NC run for Pitt and the move of OSU to the Sunbelt conference...
