I know I sound very chauvanistic and for that I appologize but I seriously do not like listening to the commentary of a few of the females who do espn games. I was replaying the ucf vs ohio state game and I was like ugh this is so horrible. I like a few of the females who work on sportcenter and firsttake and think that they would be alot better than the woman that calls the espn 2 games. It comes off as inauthentic as if they are trying too hard to sound like a man. Again I apologize if I offended anyone but it is what it is. I love women but that commentary on espn 2 sucks. (off my soapbox)

Linda Cohn is one of the best analysts at ESPN in my mind. However, I don't think ESPN has any good women in the booth on game day. Also all sideline reporters pretty much stink so that kind of throws out the Pam Olivers and the like.
SEC Buckeye...The only reason you're saying all that is because it's true. They suck for the most part...but to be fair, I also don't like men commentating on female only sports such as synchronized swimming or bad driving.
D. Anthony
Love linda kohn and sage steele...i think they could do an excellent job.

Haha d. Anthony funny but so true

It's a different skill set. I don't think ESPN has anybody that does both.
I tend to have stronger opinions about the color commentators than about the pbp person, because I'm counting on them to tell me something I can't see for myself -- though the woman (Beth Mowins?) who repeatedly said "Rod Jones" was pretty embarrassing.

I wish I knew her name. It might be beth. I just know that it was horrible

No one is ever satisfied with announcers, are they? Half the people you meet hate Brent Musburger, half think he's the greatest. Half think John Gruden is an American gem, the other half feel he's the worst thing to hit broadcasting since John Madden (whom, not coincidentally, half the people like).
Point is, I find complaining about sports commentators not only part of the tradition of college football, but an equal-opportunity venture...in other words, it doesn't matter what gender the commentator is, someone is going to hate him/her. I personally think Beth Mowins (I think that's who you're talking about) does a tremendous job...certainly better than her co-host Andre Ware. In a profession being over-run by no-talent ex-jock hacks, I've gotta respect her for being pretty good. But in general, you're getting the C team for whatever B1G game aires at noon on ESPN2. It's better to be drunk by then anyway.
I prefer commentators who actually played the sport at a high level. They bring insight to the commentary and a level of trust that its hard to have with someone who hasn't mastered the game they are commentating on.

I think most people liked Keith Jackson. He was probably as close as you can get to universal popularity.
talking basketball, I'll take Doris Burke any day of the week.
talking football, no thanks.
SEC, I am very stunned you haven't been downvoted to nothingness for your title. I understand your point but maybe you should say you don't like a specific person as opposed to "I dislike the women commentary on espn2". It does sound chauvinistic. If you don't want to accidentally sound that way, try to think of a better title. It ruins your point.
I really haven't paid much attention I guess. I try to tune out the commentators because they annoy me so much that I can't remember who is who let alone gender. Basketball, Doris Burke is as good as anyone. I like Sage Steele with her sportscenter and other stuff. I really think whichever female is opposite Colin Cowherd is a darling and a gem for having to do that. His ego barely fits in the door let alone allow her to say much. Michelle had to be spunky and aggressive to get anything in edgewise.
I get you man! Just hate for the 11W ladies to attack you when your intent was fair!

That's Charissa Thompson, formerly of the Big Ten Network.

@squirrel - this is where the difference in the men vs women comes in. We women will not go on attack mode. We will just quietly take it in, let it stew and very subtly go for the kill shot in about a year. LOL
@TASPRA LOL. Yep, I was wrong. Although when ladies are at a numbers advantage, look out! Women can go either way, hence why its so dangerous.
Chuck, I was actually referring to any female. I was including Michelle before her. Charissa must be a masochist for taking that job. Either that or it pays really well.
Taspra I apologize I really meant nothing bad by what I said. I admit my title is very polarizing to say the least. I dont know what it is but I guess maybe its the pbp talent that espn chooses that I dont like. Like I said I love dana linda and sage- I think they would be a great talent addition to college football. Even jamille is ok. Maybe I should do a better job at explaing myself. I hope you didnt take offence. And thanks @squirrel

Changed the title....

@SEC - I took no offense seriously. Please Carry on ;-)
Appreciate the title change.
Do we start a petition for Elika to hit the booth for ESPN? ;)
I actually think the women I've seen broadcast games do a pretty good job.
Elika is pretty, smart, and a buckeye lover *swoons and trips over my left foot

SEC Buckeye, thank you for changing the title. I got what you are trying to say, so, shrug, no reason to go after you with hammer and tongs. Besides, there are a number of male sportscasters that I automatically put the mute button on. Like Desmond Howard and Joe Theismann.
11W has been blessed with the likes of Elika and Sarah. I think they both know more about football than anyone of the sideline reporters for espin2.
@SQUIRREL
Nope. Charissa has gotten pretty bad since joining SN. I like the way she interacts with people, but she's annoying when it comes to certain things
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
I can't say I enjoy women calling the game, but I will admit, most of them that do are spot on with the calls. They rarely screw up names (Musberger) and they typically know more of what's going on around the teams playing than half the guys. But honestly, there are maybe 6-8 broadcasters out there whose voice and/or know-how are just far and away better than the rest. Sometimes it's a tradeoff for voice/tone and the way the game is called.

^^^^ If I could give you a thousand Buckeye leaves for that comment I would... and that is a scientific fact.
ESPN needs better commentators period.
SEC Buckeye, it's not chauvanistic on your part. Call it like you see it. As long as you don't let gender affect how you see it, you'll be fine. There are good women commentators out there, as well as bad male commentators (like, the guy who called our game on BTN). Besides, if you want complete equality between genders, then you have to evaluate them the same way.
Class of 2010.
He's not saying he dislikes them because they are women. He sounds like he is saying he dislikes the female perspective these specific analysts bring. Nothing about what you said is sexist or chauvinistic.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
@buckeyevstheworld, I wasn't saying Charissa was good. I don't even watch the show so I don't know how good she is or not. I am saying she is a gem for working next to that blowhard Cowherd. He has good points and I don't disagree with him on everything, but the guy is an ass and must be hard to work with. I think Matthew Perry on "Go On" has to be just like Cowherd!
Brew, the previous title was pretty chauvinistic. This one fits more of what he is saying. Using a name just helps with not sounding sexist. When we discuss Mussberger its not "that man on ABC is a moron", its "Mussburger is a moron". When we bash Mark May its not "that black man on ESPN next to the sputtering old man", its" Mark may is a complete ass hat and someone please get Holtz a bib". Names just help your point more instead of gender terms. SEC pointed out that his title might sound chauvinistic, I was just pointing out there is a way to avoid that.
