I wish I could make a poll. I was driving home listening to Common Man and Krenzel and Krenzel talked about Kenny G's performance.
My question to my friends at 11w - what performance was more epic - Holy Buckeye or Kenny G's final drive in regulation? I think I have to go with Smooth Jazz myself. That was truly amazing.

Pardon my ignorance but what is the "holy Buckeye" reference to?

Holy Buckeye no doubt. Just that one moment of time when the ball was in the air and all of our jaws were collectively on the ground and then in an instant massive celebration.
Just go to Youtube and search Holy Buckeye, and watch it. Brent Musberger was calling our game against Purdue when Krenzel hit Jenkinss on 4th down to win the game & keep our unbeaten season alive. Which allowed us to get to the National Championship game & become the 2002 Nat'l Champs. When he hit Jenkins, Musberger yelled "Holy Buckeye!". It stuck.

Holy Buckeye by a landslide. Nothing against the excitement of the game last week, but the stakes were MUCH higher.
If we end up going undefeated this year, Kenny G's moment will be one of the most memorable in Ohio State history I'd say. If we don't, while it will still be remembered forever, I don't think it will stay up there with the "Holy Buckeye" type moments. Time will tell us all.
October 20th: National Kenneth Guiton Day
during the 4th quarter when there was 2:40 left and Purdue had possession, I pulled my sweatshirt off to unveil (and consequently freeze my ass off) this gem from homage.
As you know, the bucks came back and won. I'm not going to say it was me that won this game, but if you're superstitious at all, I'll take credit for the victory.
Back to the question, both were awesome in their own way. Holy Buckeye saved a National Championship run, so it wins.
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
You know I remember watching this game at my friend's house. It is amazing all of he memories the bucks have given us. My vote is Holy Buckeye.
How Firm Thy Friendship....
100% Holy Buckeye. I'll never forget it
Holy Buckeye because of what it meant in the long run
My point stands. You simply cannot "vote" on this one yet. We have to see how the rest of the season unfolds. I bet if we go 12-0 everybody's response changes, or if not, then the margin is much smaller than what it is right now.
October 20th: National Kenneth Guiton Day
Standing on its own, Saturday's game wins the prize for being more unlikely. And the fact that it happened at home is probably a tiebreaker for the folks who were actually at the game.
But it's all about context. Holy Buckeye would be barely remembered today except for the fact that it saved what turned out to be a national championship season. That was the moment where we could say to ourselves, "Oh, OK. Maybe this really is a team of destiny." Coming on the heels of all the near-misses of the Cooper years, it was like an exorcism.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
Holy Buckeye for now.... 4th and one... Clarette out. and he THROWS??/ I stood up to scream NOOOOOOOOOO -which then turned into- OOOOOOOOOOH MY GOD!!!!
That throw took stones, and was right on the money. Krenzel to Jenkins for 6.
~Because we couldn't go for three~
Guiton's comeback was more improbable but holy buckeye had the fate of a NC in it's hands...and it happened in West Lafeyette which for whatever reason seems to be the buckeyes' achilles heel. My heart stopped when Krenzel let the ball go. Holy Buckeye!
Holy buckeye. Not even comparable.
If we go 12-0 I still cannot vote for anything but Holy Buckeye. I know right now that this season cannot lead to a NC game. I also am 95% sure that if we faced anyone in the top ten we would lose, if we were allowed to go to a NC game. A 12-0 season is great, I'll be happy, this game will be a big part of that. But it still won't be part of a great OSU football team and their season to go on and win it all. I can vote now, and nothing this season would change that without a total turn around of the defense and explosive consistency of the offense showing vast improvements.
As JesterTCF also pointed out, the call was GUTSY beyond this last weekend. Guiton executed very well, but the calls weren't that crazy. Even Tressel wasn't playing Tressel ball on that play.
You rang ?!!! :)
Holy Buckeye, it's not even close, and we don't need to see how this season plays out. 34 years of angst were on the line in 2002.
Holy Buckeye. This isn't even close. We can't win a championship this year, so nothing this year can ever mean as much.
I'm ecstatic for Kenny G though. Always liked him and am deeeee-lighted to watch him succeed.
As was stated above, holy buckeye will go down as one of the single greatest moments I've experienced as a buckeye fan. If for any reason, because it was the one time I can remember tress saying screw the averages, screw the conservatism...let's roll the dice here. Let's take a shot and win it right here. I also remember not being able to watch once he put the ball up...if it came down incomplete, it would have crushed me. That team had the aura about them...tough, resilient and strong in the face of adversity. Is this team on that level? Maybe not in terms of being able to stare down goliath in the form of a college football team and not flinch against miami. But for one afternoon, kenny guiton and these buckeyes reminded us of that day in west lafayette. And that team. And that's a pretty awesome thing to be able to share with your kids and grandkids if your kenny g. The gravity of krenzels throw will make holy buckeye a more lasting moment in buckeye history. But for this team, this year, kenny g stepping in and rallying them to a win like that will be a defining moment of this season.
Holy Buckeye will always reign supreme.
If this team goes 12-0, though, it wouldn't surprise me if Buckeyes fans in the future treat Kenny G as more of a sentimental hero than Krenzel. The fans will always love and appreciate Krenzel for his toughness, coolness, and steady leadership during an epic national championship run; however, fans also have a soft spot for the comeback kid who triumphs over the odds to achieve a moment of supreme joy.
As others have mentioned, though, it depends on how this season plays out - fans have short attention spans and fickle memories.

Holy Buckeye...hands down. Loved that come back by Kenny G...but nothing will compare to that. I was in an upstairs apartment with 6 Buckeye fans and 2 ND fans and 1 tTUN fan. It was GREAT...we knew it was down to one game. Us and tTUN...good memories for sure. It did remind me of that no doubt...and almost ten years to the date. Just a couple weeks short...

Oh jeez. This is no contest. Holy Buckeye was one of, if not THE, most important plays in the history of Ohio State football. I can't think of any other season that has a moment like that. Of course, you could argue that the 4th and 14 against Miami, or even the 4th down P.I. play in that same Fiesta Bowl, as being just as gutsy or important for the outcome of the season. But that 4th and 1 at Purdue...they needed 1 yard from a hell of a scrambling QB, and he went for the whole ball of wax. Most people were like, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" And now that we know that he wasn't even supposed to throw to Jenkins on the play makes it all the more incredible. Whenever I talk about that play with the guys I went to college with, I always say, "I can't believe Krenzel threw that ball." When I post the play on FB, the comments turn into a college reunion.
Guiton's moment was spectacular. It shouldn't discredit how awesome it was simply because it's just not as huge or as important as the Holy Buckeye play was. It's still going to go down as one of the most legendary moments for a Buckeye football player...there is no doubt in my mind. We'll be talking about Kenny G's comeback against Purdue until we're old and gray.
But Craig Krenzel and Holy Buckeye are a different kind of special.
Holy Buckeye
O H I O is the Buckeye State
Gutsy of Krenzel for calling an audible and airing it out on 4th and 1...that ball hits the ground and the season's over. Wish all our QBs had Krenzel's composure...
Only Holy Buckeye because it ultimately meant more for the team. However, based on pure performance, I would say Kenny G.
This past Saturday was awesome, but no doubt that Holy Buckeye still trumps it.
Both were incredible moments, but anything with the year 2002 attached to it jumps in front.
"As long as we're keeping score, we're gonna try to win this thing." - UFM
Kenny Guiton's performance was reminiscent of Joe Germaine going down the field in the Rose Bowl, and this game was fitting payback for last year. It's still Holy Buckeye to keep the dream alive in 2002, and it's not even close.
Holy Buckeye is one of the most epic moments in OSU football history...but I'll be damned if I didn't jump around & hoot & holler longer than I ever have last Saturday at the end of that game.
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
It's Holy Buckeye IMO.
@Steensn
FWIW "Holy Buckeye" was supposed to be a 3yd pass to the tight end but he was covered. Tress didn't call the deep pass to Jenkins, Krenzel had the stones to make the throw.
The B1G Network aired a "Big Ten Elite" on that amazing OSU season. Every time I watch it I get goosebumps. A truly great moment!
This isn't even debatable... HOLY BUCKEYE!
Random, but has anyone found a decent (NOT ESPiN) highlight reel/lengthy replay of Smooth Jazz's performance on Saturday? I mean, yeah, I was there, but I'd be more than pleased to kill about 30 minutes of my night watching that over and over and over...
"I'm up there with Chris and Dave Pass, getting ready to broadcast that game, and that band came out of that tunnel, I was wiping tears out of my eyes and all the memories came back." ~Urban Meyer
Holy Buckeye by far!
In a unrelated sort of way this kind of reminds me of arguing with kids from today who say Lebron James or Kobe Bryant are better than Michael Jordan. They are both good in their own rights but nobody has ever been as good as Jordan.
@Pukindawg That sounds more like Tress ball!
is this even a real question? Holy Buckeye
The pass in '02, by far. The call to not run it on 4th and 1 with EVERYTHING on the line. Great risk for ultimate reward. Not even close in my mind. Great march down the field for the comeback, but in a different league, IMO.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

Yeah, pretty simple math really:
Holy Buckeye = Road to National Championship therefore Kenny G Comeback<Holy Buckeye
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
one saved a national championship..one has the chance to just save a 12-0 season. Holy Buckeye hands down
"Winter is coming" - Urban Meyer
To me it's really not even debatable, Holy Buckeye. First, it preserved the perfect season and continued the quest for a national championship. Second, it was 1 play where last Saturday was more of a drive that set up the victory. Third, who expected that play on 4th and short from a Tressel offense????? It was such a shock. When Krenzel dropped back to pass I was screaming at the TV, WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY DOING, then the play was completed and it was euphoria. I was jumping up and down, screaming WOOOOOOOO and laughing. It was just an amazing play, and probably the most exciting single play I've seen out of the Buckeyes in my life time.
If this team goes undefeated, I agree Guiton is going to go into Buckeye lore. What Guiton and this team did was amazing and it was great to watch, but Holy Buckeye may be the most exciting, legendary play in Buckeye history.
Holy Buckeye was the bigger singluar play, without question.
Kenny G's comeback was a more dramatic event.
Let's face it, we were down 6-3 to Purdue and nothing was working in '02, but it was a mere field goal--last Saturday we'd all resigned to losing. With the safety and the interception, that eight point lead looked insurmountable. The fact that our backup Quarterback come in cold and drive 61 yards in 37 seconds with no timeouts, score a touchdown and convert the two-point conversion and get the ball immediately back in overtime and drive the team to another score...that's the stuff that legends are made of.
Holy Buckeye saved the MNC season but Kenny G was just so improbable. I still can't believe that we won the game last Saturday. Kenny G gets my vote.
"It's just another case of there you are". ~ Doc (1918-2012)
Holy Buckeye, though it pains me that this play is forever associated with Musberger.
@ Jake - for real? 40+ holy buckeyes & 1 KG/ time will tell? No amount of time will matter - Holy buckeye on the road, preserving an undefeated season & national championship. The only thing they could even have in common is a possible 12-0, but regardless of this years record - this team cant even be a conference champ, much less a national champ. 2002 was 1st NC in over 30 years... this year wont even be in a bowl game. NO CONTEST - HOLY BUCKEYE.
This past weekend was great, but Holy Buckeye wins.
Love the old right hander but Holy Buckeye is in a class by itself. Literally get chills thinking about it.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
12-0 this season vs a national title year in 2002 is apples and oranges..it was way more important then. What Kenny did was great but he did it against a terrible Purdue team at home during a year with no Championship to play for. Holy Buckeye > Kg comeback by ALOT!
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
My opinion wont change because I alraedy know we won't be going to a NC game. I don't need to see 12-0, I know that it can't go farther than that. They cannot be compared no matter how good this teams record is.
