He had some good things to say and definitely showed he still loves the Bucks for all the haters that believe he bashes us. When they interviewed Urban to get his take on the game it was in front of the trophy case. After they aired back to gameday, Fowler made a comment about the trophy case looking kind of bare. Herbstreit shot back and said he must have missed that shiny crystal ball over Urbans left shoulder and said not to worry because Urban will have a couple more of those in the next 2 or 3 seasons to fill the trophy case up. Loved that he stuck up for The Buckeyes and definitely was not shy about sharing his feelings on the Buckeyes future.

Desmond acted like MSU "ran through OSU" and that tackling was bad.  Not sure what game he watched - maybe he only saw that one TD play for MSU.  What a dumbass.  Corso's reason - OSU must be bruised up.  At least that's semi-plausible, but I don't buy it.

Right Corso, because Nebraska is fresh and rested after coming off the bye week... Oh wait, they had a primetime battle of their own with Wisconsin.

Corso needs to go. I don't think they have the heart to get rid of him and are just hoping he retires on his own, but i do not see that happening any time soon. His reasoning on most topics are are just plain dumb. Especially as you guys mentioned, not going with Ohio State because they are all bruised up after a tough Big Ten game last week. Nebraska had as tough as a game as we did dipshit. He lives to pick the game at the end of the show, and even that has lost its luster. He has ran out of creative ideas. Time to bring in Pollack or Palmer fulltime.

Oh my God - Corso couldn't get through 2-3 different sentences in a row - they had to step in & help him out. It was actually kind of sad...I could care less that he picked Nebraska - I just thought it was uncomfortable watching him shudder & stumble through his thoughts...and I typically love the the guy & what he does.

Herbstreit actually had OSUs back in a big way today, mentioning the recent NC & saying they'll be a few more there by the time UFM's done...He very rarely shows any homerism so that was nice to see.

Come on now, Corso picked us last week ... on site in East Lansing :)

Personally I think almost all CFB commentary is badly-informed, inane or just plain stupid.  You can get a far better perspective on football from this site than from the TV 'experts'.

Given that, I like Corso's antics, right or wrong -- they're a dumb-but-fun tradition.

Maybe Herbstreit will realize that being honest about Ohio State's success and not feeling the need to generally pile on with the haters didn't kill him and it's ok to call a spade a spade if it's true like the comment reference about the crystal trophy. These are the types of things Spielman would say. Keep it up Herbstreit -- you'll be on the right track.

All you have to do is look at ESPN's actual meaning:

Enterntainment and sports programming network

The name is a company statement.  First and foremost is ENTERTAINMENT.

Yea im with cowcat..corso has completely lost his marbles and ESPN knows that, hes there solely for his antics..not to say his only purpose is for us to laugh at him, but he has absolutly no insight or interesting stats on any games any more. Its just stuff like "theyre banged up" or "they play good at home"..kinda sad to watch

Well i like college and i like football...and im gunna keep doin em both cause they make me feel good!!!

@ROYWALLEY sorry bud NO ONE is Mark May. He's in the same mold as Skip Bayless and Colin Cowherd...they are only employed to piss everyone off and start controversy. It would be nice to listen to analysts who are analytic and not asinine for once. I'd like Lou Holtz to shhlobberknock him one day.

Very proud of Herbie. Maybe he will ease up on trying so hard not to show where his heart is. Howard got called out about never picking against ttun and he had trouble talking his way out of it.

I dont think you can get on guys like herbie for trying to mask their love for their school. They have a family to take care of and a fantastic job where they just talk about football all day. Obviously ESPN tells them not to come off as major homers or else noone will take their opinions seriously. That said it was awesome seeing him stick up for tOSU the way he did today

Good stuff from Herbie, definitely.  He doesn't have to be a blatant OSU homer (like Desmond is a pretty blatant TSUN homer), but he doesn't have to try so hard to prove that he's not a homer.  It is OK to pick your alma mater and say good things about them, and fire back on dumb smack talk by other idiots like Desmond Howard.

Definitely have respect for Herbie and his analytical skills. I am glad that he does not come off as a homer on tv. The world does not need more mark mays or Desmonds!

Good reporting needs to be as unbiased as possible. Overall, he doe a great job at this which is why so many people get frustrated. I also do not think he had the best of opinions of Tress, which made it look worse

I don't buy that.  How else can you explain Howard, May and Holtz's bias toward their teams.  I'm beginning to think there was some friction between him and Tresell.  They were neighbors and maybe didn't get along for some reason.

^ Herbie broadcasts all the big games..they need him to be as neutral as possible..could you imagine May calling a Pitt game? or Holtz calling a Notre Dame game..itd be ridiculous

^^Most of his negative remarks do not come when he is broadcasting.  They come in his commentaries.  No one expects him to be biased during the game.  But the way he slams us in other venues is what is so disturbing.

Maybe it is Herbie's extreme love for OSU that causes him to slam the team.  You know, kinda like the criticism that is leveled on this board when we don't match the spread against the Cals and UAB's of the world.  Why is it unreasonable for Herbie to do the same.  When we do it, it is as fans and alumni demanding excellence from our team.  When Herbie does it, we call it disloyalty and sucking up to his SECspn overlords.  Despite the incredible run of success by Tressel over the last decade, can we really say there was no room for improvement?  I mean really, here we are one year later still cracking on Bollman.  We have seen so many top level O line recruits not live up to their potential over the last ten years.  By the same token, I could say the same about running backs as well.  I thought for years that the replacement of Spencer by Tressel at running backs coach was a definite downgrade.  Does anyone think that Pryor was developed to all of his ability?  Why is it okay for us to question this, but not for Herbie?

Setman: I think the biggest issue people have with him is his inconsistency. Stating one thing on a local radio and something different on the same topic when on the national networks.

Setman I get what you're saying but we are not talking to a national audience.  When the chips were down, and he had a choice, he chose to jump on board with the Buckeye hatred.  I'm not saying he should have been a homie, but come on, he could've thrown us a little support when we were at our lowest point in the history of tOSU and desperately needed someone to bring calmness and reason to the table.  He turned his back on the team he supposedly loved, therefore letting all the the haters out there to say  "Look, even Herbie agrees with us!"  Not a very good testament to a former player.  Sorry, but I just don't see how anybody can turn their back on a 'friend' when they need you the most.  He was bought and paid for by ESPN

Herbstreit's major malfunction is that he takes himself way to seriously. Kirk, you're not curing cancer on GameDay, you're predicting the outcome of college football games. It has been overtly obvious to me that he has desperately tried for years to prove to the world that he's no Ohio State homer, going to the extreme of bashing Ohio State for their flaws more than anyone this side of Mark May. He can say people are crazy for thinking that, or remind everyone that his dad played for coach Hayes and was a captain, blah, blah, blah. He's delusional if he doesn't realize that he's bent over backwards trying to show no OSU favoritism since he's been on ESPN. The funny part is that he actually gets offended when people point it out to him, so much so that he moved to Tennessee. He's full of himself and it shows. Spielman, while not nearly as polished as Herbstreit, is at least real. He wears his love for OSU on his sleeve, and no one thinks less of him for being partial to the Buckeyes. Herbstreit, for years, has been too arrogant to pick up on that.  It's too bad...

I like Lee Corso, I always enjoyed the way he picks games at the end, I find it funny. And Kirk Herbstreit may criticize Ohio State, but atleast he doesn't pull a Desmond Howard & pick his school for every game. It's what makes him a good analyst, he gives an unbiased opinion based on his knowlege of the game. Also, sometimes I think the whole reason ESPN put Desmond & Kirk together on gameday is because they're from Ohio State & Michigan, & the rivalry is a great representation of what college football is all about. Notice they sit at opposite ends of the table from eachother, I think there was a reason behind that seating arrangement.

It's 5 o'clock somewhere, & Michigan still sucks
