Moments ago, on his radio show (broadast, Mondays at noon, on 97.1 FM - Columbus) Kirk Herbstreit issued a lengthy and passionate defense of Desmond Howard, regarding the following:

Thanks NC_BUCKEYE. for the ATTN on the 404.

I saw that tweet from the torg on Saturday and recall thinking at the time that it wasn't going to go over or end well.
404 error on that link.

Torg's twitter account no longer exists. No one hates Des more than me, but that was out of line
Wonder what the brass will do with this mess. Saw a New York newspaper story about it.
I think I hear taps playing softly in the distance.... Any one think 97.1 will pull a pizza shop manager and give torg the boot?
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
I never did see the tweet in question (Torg deleted it and said it was a joke). What did it say?
The tweet was dumb.
The "article" on Lost Lettermen is also dumb. If they did a little research they would find that Torgerson is not from Ohio but is a transplant from out of state and therefore his animosity with Desmond Howard is not because of him 'spurning his home-state school' and 'striking the Heisman pose'.
The tweet said: “I wish Desmond Howard would get fired or die so I can watch Gameday again.”
It puts in an extra "/" that you have to remove from the address bar.
The tweet from Scott Torgerson said "I wish Desmond Howard would get fired or die so I can watch Gameday again". Kind of amazed he would put something like that out there.
Oops too late!
Found it (thank you simple google search). "Get fired or die" is pretty typical of the dumb things Torg is capable of saying at any given moment. I suspect a heartfelt private apology and appropriate public displays of contrition ought to be enough to allow him to keep his job.
I'm amazed as well Torgerson allowed himself to get so worked up that he crossed the line with his tweet. I used to listen to him and Ricordati every day, and he says some off the wall stuff, but seemed to keep certain things in perspective. Looks like he let one get to him here...
"What we do in life echoes in eternity"
Stupid comment by Torg, but big picture, this is a non-issue for me. I'm not justifying the comment, but you know Herbie and Desmond have heard worse from live Gameday crowds. I'd be more concerned about the integrity of the chicken wire behind the Gameday set than worrying about Twitter text comments.
On a side not, Herbie should use the off-season to develop new Gameday shtick. Laughing like a little girl and play-slapping Corso was played out about 10 seasons ago.
I'm assuming the torg has been suspended...just turned on 97.1 for the start of the show and Ricordatti sarcastically that "torg is resting, he will be back sooner rather than later".
In Torg's defense Dez makes Gameday unwatchable. I wouldn't wish him dead, but he needs to go away.
IMO Gameday is unwatchable period. Desmond, no Desmond, I don't care. I refuse to watch it, and it has nothing to do with it being on ESPN.
I just personally don't care for talking heads telling me who they think is gonna do this or that or how good they think so and so is or such and such team. I don't watch Gameday or any pre-game type shows. None of what they say really matters. Nothing they say has any bearing whatsoever on the games. I skip all that crap and watch the actual games, you know, the 4 quarters of football that actually matter.
(1) obviously lacks taste, and he never should have made the tweet being a public figure in columbus, and surely followed by many members of the local/regional media. fine. suspend him for a week without pay or something, move on.
(2) how thin does your skin have to be (howard, his wife who was appalled and claimed "my daughter doesn't get your joke!", herbstreit, etc.) to really get upset about this beyond "wow, that guy's an idiot i work for ESPN i'm 100x more successful than you i win."? calm down. not to mention there is a distinction between what happened here and an actual threat of harm. if you search "desmond howard" (or his twitter handle) during any gameday broadcasts, i guarantee you there will be dozens if not hundreds of similarly-toned tweets. if you seriously can't handle this, you might not want to work on national TV (and/or read the internet).
(3) all the underlying issues aside, this is really a weird power play by herbie here. he's only on 97.1 for an hour a week or something, and his thumbprint on the station and the local media is mostly due to "the good ol days" and a trickle-down effect from ESPN. to just put take your own initiative to throw the situation out there, on a show without Torgerson (sp?) there to defend himself/rebut anything, and to effectively call for his firing is pretty strong. not only are you putting the dispatch/wbns the wolfe family in an awkward spot, but you're turning a situation that's a 1/10 on the "visibility meter" and amping it up to an 8, especially locally. does this added exposure help anyone? the only legitimate reason to do this is to try to end Torg's career in columbus. which is fine, but just surprising. I admittedly don't know much about the politics of that station, but it shows a lot of huevos and clout to try to pull that off.
Like TENNBUCKEYE19 said, Gameday sucks with or without Howard.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Gameday is 3 years past it's prime and really is unwatchable. It used to be 70% legit and 30% gimmicks, now it's the other way around. Has anyone seen a timeline of the shows ratings?

I actually like Kirk Herbstreit more than Desmond.
What exactly did Desmond say to deserve this? Desmond's likely to reply; "Who is 'The Torg'?"
But as for foot-on-keyboard Twitter stupidity, Desmond can hold his own with anybody. Desmond averages about 2.75 Tweets per season that he has to walk back, or explain, or issue an outright apology. Twitter and Desmond Howard are a very dangerous mix. Apparently, even when it isn't even Desmond doing the Tweeting.
I have been critical of this Torg in the past. Even taking into consideration that he is on a local station only, and is obviously paid to be a homer, he takes it too far. I have never liked this guys super fan schtick, and it is especially insulting hearing his Minnesota accent every day. The guys a hard core misogynist, and I'm surprised he's never been called out on that. Say what you want about me not having thick skin, too PC, or overly sensitive. I don't care. This guy is a loser, and always will be. Anyone who defends this loser as "funny" doesn't get humor, and probably loves 2-1/2 Men. This guy needs to work at the Citgo, ding. Pun intended.
Bucktoooooooth, heeyaw.
I just wanted to chime in to say that I laugh everytime I read the end of your comments Bucktooth! This one made me laugh especially, considering I picture you as a "southern redneck" (I mean that in the best way possible, not an insult) when I read your comments and it just doesn't seem like this is something you would comment on.
I whole heartedly agree with you, just the imagery of the situation made me chuckle hearing about PC and misogyny then getting a hearty "heeyaw" at the end.
Hyperboles are exaggerations to create emphasis or effect. ( from wikipedia ).
I saw the tweet and it didn't even register with me that he was actually wishing the guy would die. I did get the point that he really didn't like the guy on gameday. Maybe I give Torg too much credit.
I apologize in advance 1. for offending anyone and 2. for my horrendous lack of artistic skills
For the record I like Kirk.....
Kevin
OH!!!!!
Proud parent of a Senior at The Ohio State University
Pryor was right... Kirk Herbstreit is a fake ass Buckeye. (don't neg me, it's a joke)
But honestly Gameday needs to get rid of Herbie and Corso on top of Desmond to be watchable again. And someone should get Herbie and Desmond a tampon for their bleeding vaginas because being in the spotlight they're open to criticism no matter how stupid it is. Crossing a line is directly threatening their well-being in my book.
The torg made an attempt at a joke. It was a bad joke, but still a joke. Herbie needs to put some more makeup on and relax. And in all seriousness Desmond is absolutely horrible on gameday and often does make the show unwatchable. He's constantly making misinformed statements and often is stutters his way through segments.
I don't watch gameday because of Howard although I wish Herbstreit was as passionate about his school.
