Guiton/Miller Package

How dangerous would a formation/package featuring Braxton at RB and Guiton at QB be?

MackRM408's picture
MackRM408 on 17 Oct 2012 - 1:18pm #

Not as dangerous as a formation with Braxton at QB

I'm not sure what packages Coach Meyer drew up for them, but I still wonder if we'll ever see it.  Perhaps saving it for scUM?

I'd like to see Kenny g throw a td pass to miller like hall did to Pryor a few years ago..Might as well be a triple threat qb heck he does everything else..

It's a good package to mix things up, but Braxton QB with Hall, Nyde, Smith, or Dunn is more dangerous IMO. The WR's are not getting open, so the running game is our strength.

I can confirm that this package does exist with multiple plays in it, player let me borrow his iPad and watch a little practice tape

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

I think @AWWWWWWOP mentioned this in today's poll, but this would increase the likliehood of Miller getting cheap-shotted on a play here.  It would be awesome to use Braxton as a decoy, or maybe in an option pass.

Triv on 17 Oct 2012 - 1:58pm #

The package has Kenny at QB and Braxton lined uo next to him, so option pass is the most likely play to be run

The more and more I see Guiton replace braxton and do well the more and more I like him. I'd love to see a package with both of them. Wouldn't be suprised if Urban kept that one on lock until we play scUM

Miller/Jalin Marshall will be much more effective with Marhsall occaisionally lining up at QB and handing it off to Miller on like an end around.

The package would be great for a video game, but the offense has been doing a good job recently, improving every game.  At this point, I see no reason to opt for trickery.  Focus on execution of the base offense and expand to run different plays from the same formations.

^^^^ I agree.

If the offense was struggling, then it would make sense to try and mix things up a little bit.  Given the way OSU's offensive line has been controlling the line of scrimmage, I would rather have a big back playing to blast away up the middle.  At this point I will settle for the 350+ yards we have been getting on the ground the last two games.

My guess is they might save this formation for the Wisky and/or TSUN games to really catch them off guard and make future opponents nervous.

yeah i dont think this is a package you roll out each game. but if you have two good athletes on the field that can both throw the football, that changes what the defense is looking at. especially if one is braxton miller.

this would be a great package to simply burn an opponents TO, regardless if they even run a play out of it or not. If a key play comes up, any good coach is going to probably call a TO to see how the hell they are supposed to defend something like this.

Might not sound like a big deal, but stuff like that is HUGE in big time games.

Don't give up... Don't ever give up.

@Wezbuck28

Are you talking about this play? If so, it was a fade route from Todd Boeckman to Terrelle Pryor, not Jordan Hall.

When Urban mention a 2 QB package with Braxton and Kenny G, I was super excited. Hopefully, they unveil it against TSUN. Urban did say that the coaching staff is gradually adding 5 or so more plays every game to help ease the team into the new offense.

I'd like to see a play in which Braxton Miller throws a touchdown pass to himself! :)

I like the idea of the package Triv described.  Kenny G has been good at showing poise in distributing the ball to playmakers.  Having two players on the field at the same time who can gain positive yardage with edge and draw plays is important, and then you throw in the dynamic of having two players who can make accurate passes.  It's more dynamic than a simple wildcat package with Hyde/Hall getting the ball, because you cannot count on their arm to fire quick, accurate passes.  I think we will wait to bust out this package until we have a really competitive game -- I could see that being at PSU or with Michigan at home.  Still not convinced that Wisky is for real.

I would like it if they could bring in Guiton when Brax needs a breather.  If you could prevent teams from taking cheap shots at him put him at WR.  He could rest 90% of the time, but I think he would be incredibly dangerous on a bubble screen.

@ Scarla

I believe he's talking about the Hall to Pryor pass from the New Mexico State game in 2009.

@One Bad Buckeye  How about Braxton snaps the ball to himself and then throws a TD pass to himself.......

Honestly I think Guiton is a better QB than Brax.

Granted it's only based on a few short plays, but he shows much better poise and mechanics. His arm is better, and it looks like he has better command of the playbook. He makes reads correctly and moves the ball well.

Brax is just a great runner with an okay arm. He's got freakish talent on the ground, and is making better decisions with his passes, but he doesn't read the defense very well or make great decisions with his reads.

BWH, I'm not sure Kenny is better, the sample size is too small for me to determine, but I've been saying Brax is not a good QB for a while. He is still a great athelete playing QB and has a lot of room for improvement. He is improving and may end up being a very good QB. Right now his reads are the major problem.

@ One Bad. How about Braxton taking the snap and pitching it out to himself. If he throws the ball he would likely have an incompletion.

If Guitton was better than Braxton at QB he'd be out there, if there's one thing Myer has done everywhere he's been (my alma mater of BG included) it's produced great QB talent. A

nd if the man who coached that certain kneeling player with a Heisman trophy and 2 national titles says that Braxton is the best talent he's ever coached I'm going to side with him thinking that Braxton is something special.

He's certainly a better runner but I bet you Guiton's  a better passer with more poucket maturity and presence.

I hope we see this formation agaisnt TTUN! It would be nasty, in my opinion and TTUN does the same thing with Robinson and Gardner.
