Ok, I'm not one who normally crtiticizes Buckeye fans. In fact, I have defended them against people who sit in their living rooms and complain that the people in the stadium aren't loud enough. But the following issue is gnawing at me, and I just can't let it be.
A *lot* of fans left the stadium after Guiton's interception. My dad and I were the only ones left in my row at the end of the game. I feel strongly that the fans who walked out on their team should be ashamed. Hopefully their regret about missing one of the most exciting endings to any game in Ohio Stadium history will be enough to change their future behavior.
Buckeyes, it's time to FAN UP and support the team even when they are struggling BECAUSE THAT'S WHEN THEY NEED IT MOST.

I don't think this is exclusively an OSU problem. I think a lot fans leave when the game seems lost, or even won, to try and beat the traffic. I agree we should all stay and support our team to the end, but it is something that will never change. I, myself have been occasionally guilty of leaving early. We live 3 hrs away and aren't really too thrilled about sitting in traffic for another hour. We have been known to do the same thing at Nascar races, pro games etc. Like I said, we normally stay, but on rare occasions we will leave. It has nothing to do with fan loyalty.
I usually have to stay well past the end of the game to ensure there is no chance of an impaired driving charge.
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
Just a few days ago people were bashing those of us who wanted them to stop asking for Fickells head and just being downright obnoxious with anger over the horrible ending of the Indiana game. I hope those same people also find fault with the fans who left the stadium when we were a possession away from tying the game. I think we should all take issue with that.
I think this entire year is going to be like this. Win/Lost close to a team we should put away or surprise us with a monster showing against an armed opponent.
You always have to stay and hear "Carmen Ohio." If you want to avoid traffic, park on the south side of campus and go south until you find a freeway or 315.
Maybe those fans leaving was exactly what we needed to fix the mojo in the stadium. Coach Urban Meyer said it was the best atmosphere he has experienced after the game.
I bet it was the best atmosphere! I can't imagine the feeling of being in the stadium during that victory.
There is a reason many advocate to "Stay 'Till Carmen".
How many other fan bases get bent out of shape when their team is 8-0 in the first year of a new coach and a new system? Doesn't anybody remember 2002? We won a lot of close games against some pretty crappy teams. Point is, if you aren't happy right now then you never will be.
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
I agree with everything you said. I think fans that leave and walk out the stadium on their team shouldn't be allowed back for that game if a miracle comeback is in progress.
I remember my last game my senior year against Wisconsin. Our team was horrible, Miller was a freshman and everything was in Wisconsin favor. Que the 30 point blowout in the Shoe on Homecoming day. Coming off a lost to Sparty we were toast. I even had my brown paper bag ready to wear on my face after the game. Student tickets were being sold faster than hotcakes off the grill. It sure did feel depressing to know my last game was going to be a lost to the team that crush the Buckeyes a year ago... Went to the game, we know how it ended and was I wrong. That game forever changed about how I thought about OSU football. If a team can pullout a win when things look to be at their worst, to never give up on your team.
Nice win Buckeyes but please don't be the Cardiac Cat version 2.0. I get enough of this with Northwestern and my heart can't take it....
Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012
Agree, and this is an issue with fans at every school, but I am with ya. Win or lose, I stay until the game is over every single time, no matter, and same when I'm watching it on tv. I stay until the end. Believe me I wanted to just leave the room yesterday after Guiton threw that interception because it seemed hopeless, but I'm glad I just hung in and kept watching along with the rest of my Buckeye Brethren and glad the team just kept fighting.
It happens... can't blame them for trying to beat the rush. Some people value their time if the team isn't going to show up until 3 seconds left.
I considered it only because I found thought of Purdue over celebrating in the north end with their fans and band somewhat nauseating. I'm glad I didn't act on it.
To intentionally misquote an Ohio-native who made a very poor career choice:
(Yesterday in the 'Shoe) Those who stayed were champions.
Real fans stay for Carmen.
We drove down from Cleveland for the game yesterday. My son is a student so it is always a win for me when we can down for a game and get to see him as well.
My husband and I planned on going to the game and then meeting up with our son afterwards to go for dinner. (I am the OSU fanatic in the family) but I must admit after Kenny thew the pick even I was thinking about leaving. We were in 5b so right by the Purdue band and I did not want to watch them celebrate in our house. Not to mention the 2.5 mile walk back to my son's place. My husband turned to me and said "we can tie this." so we stayed. OMG best decision ever!
After all of the celebrating and watching Carmen Ohio we headed down the stairs and suddenly that 2.5 mile walk back to my son's did not seem long at all!
Honestly I thought it was over at that point...went to the bathroom (in my house not at the Shoe) and couldn't believe we stopped them with time left when I came back. It was astonishing to see Kenny orchestrate what he did with less than a minute on the clock and then in OT too. Not to mention the defense stepping up and getting to Turbush as well. To me it just proves less how fans are/were giving up on the Buckeyes, but more needing to be reminded about what Buckeye pride is all about and how to show the resilience to never give up. IMHO that's more what came from Saturday's win than the lack there of. GO BUCKEYES!

All I know is, my dad and I stayed--- we'll forever have this memory to talk about! I can confirm with UFM that the stadium was louder with 47 seconds left 0 timeouts and about 50,000 less fans than it was all day! Thanks to my fellow comrades that stayed!!
Remember that in the end you will be judged not by what you believed, planned or dreamed; but, by what you did.
Best game I've ever been to hands down...for the last five minutes. Was listening to 'the fan' after the game and one of the commentators mentioned 'I hope all those fans that left, got to there cars only to find there keys locked inside.' I couldn't agree more with the mojo statement above as my wife and I sat in 26a row 30 and had to listen to all the fans around us complain for 3 1/2 quarters of the game only to leave after the safety and miss prolly the best finish/game they prolly would've ever saw. But a fan stands by there team through it all and some of us were rewarded with what will prolly be the est memory at Ohio stadium we'll witness. Go bucks!!

Agree about Kenny. Big testament to the players and the job the new offensive coaches have done to correct the "oh crap I'm in a tough situation, I'm going to shit down my leg" mentality that the 2011 offensive coaching staff instilled.
I risk missing a planned fishing trip by staying and watching the games ending. I was lucky the people I was going with were running late because they got caught up in the game too. The risk was well worth it.
If I wouldn't have made the trip I would have missed catching my biggest walleye ever, it was 27" but it turned to be a great night all the way.
O H I O is the Buckeye State
I have stated this before. I have season tickets, and we can not travel back for every game. We sell our seats to friends and family when we can not attend. The tickets are always sold at face value with the following stipulations - be in the seats early, before the band takes the field, and be in the seats when the team sings Carmen Ohio. Win, lose, whatever - there is no experience in this world like seeing a complete game at The Shoe. I have been in those seats when completely frustrated because of a loss, and the team in front of the band seems to bring it all back to earth. Any walk back to a car, bar, restaurant, tailgate, etc is much easier after witnessing Carmen Ohio. Yes, those who stayed yesterday were rewarded with a great comeback, but I always feel much better after the band and team strike it up.
Urbzenewal - You hit the nail on the head!!! That should be a featured shirt at the Drygoods! I know they have a Carmen shirt, it wouldn't take much to make it:
Stay 'Till Carmen!
Any staff reading this - please pass it along!!!
I will say one thing...If we were at that game, we would have NEVER left with us being only 8 pts away from tying the game. That was insane to leave.
@ Raz: I thought about the same thing after Kenny threw that TD pass to Fields. I wished they would have had confidence in him to at least see what he could do last year. However, I think UFM and Herman have helped Kenny in maturating into what we saw in the Spring game and then yesterday too. Kenny can do it man...I'm pumped that OSU actually has two QB's that can play. Makes Braxton being out for a game not too bad of a possibility, which it still may be. I personally don't see UFM putting Brax back out there if he's not 100%. Guess we'll see Saturday at 6 pm.

Buckeye76bhop - The PSU game has been moved to 5:30 pm. 30 minutes less of waiting!!!!
From my experiences, this happens in most fanbases. Most recent example: I went to the Texas Tech vs. TCU game in Fort Worth this past Saturday and half the TCU fans left when TTU scored a TD to go up 10 with 4 mins. left. TCU scored a TD and FG in the final two minutes to tie the game and go to OT. Since I was sitting up high in the stadium, I was able to watch the TCU fans RUN back to the stadium to get back in and watch their team get beat in 3 OT's.....unfortunately, drinking has become more important than football for most....
Dont worry about me. If i can stay through last years Michigan State game I can stay thriugh anything.
Stay through Carmen
Pick up your feet, turn your corners square! And DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE!!!
I left. Poor effort foe 3+ hours against an inferior team at home. Team and coaches weren't prepared. Should have left earlier. Ecstatic we came back to win but felt like a loss
At the Cal game earlier this year a few people near us left at halftime when we were only up 20-7
I really REALLY had to resist the urge to ask them why the flying f*** they were already leaving as if we were up by 40
I will never leave a game early unless we are just getting spanked (which doesn't happen often in the shoe obviously)
I remember in 90's when we could never beat Michigan. All these people would hate on the Buckeyes and wear maize and blue. Then Tressell comes along and all of a sudden those same people are Ohio State fans! My cousin would wear Michigan crap just because I was an Ohio State fan. I HATE that! In fact you see alot of people do that just to piss off the majority of Buckeye fans. I can't stand people like that. If your going to have a favorite team then stick to them through thick and thin. When I moved to Texas, I didn't become a Texas or Texas A&M fan. I wore my scarlet and gray with pride and had to put up with them stupid Longhorn fans the entire 10 years I was there! But I stuck with MY team and I always will. I'm DAMN PROUD TO BE A BUCKEYE!!!!
I was unfortunately one of the people who left early. You have to understand what was going through our heads though: less than 3 minutes left on the clock, Purdue has the ball, we have one timeout and our offense was looking like it needed life support (compared to the last two weeks). I am hated leaving and regretted it. It was the first game I left early in 19 years as a fan. If it wasn't for everything involved (Braxton injury included) I would have stayed.
As far as this being the best game in a while, I have to disagree. Wisconsin last year was way better. We won in the final minute against a WAY better team with a bunch of NFL talent. Yes, this was a good game, but not even close to Wisky last year.

@LuckyDAWG685 Those of us watching on TV felt the same. Expect a lot of downvotes from those abusing the system because you left early.
I still can't believe we won. I am a sports optimist (should not be, since I am also a diehard Cleveland sports fan), but even I thought it was done.
I am not proud of the way I acted like a 29 year old baby during that game. Nor am I proud of some of the words I let fly out of mouth when my kids were nearby. BUT without my "fanliness" there is no way the end of that game could possibly been more euphoric (especally after logging back on, listening to some Black Keys and Kenny G, dancing with my kids, and eventually seeing Braxton was fine!).
Can we get away from trashing our own fans for leaving and just give props to those that stayed?
It was a great finish and comeback from being behind with a backup QB.
Go bucks!
Stay and sing Carmen! ??
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
My sons high school game was delayed Fri due to a power loss, so we had the game on Sat afternoon, an away game at that. Rode home in silence because I had the game on DVR. Watched the whole thing and even told the boss we were going to be going out for our 20th anniversary dinner a bit later than planned. Watched the whole thing and I didn't get in too much trouble with her either
Did you see the FSU/Miami game Saturday night? The stands couldn't have been more than half-full. And thats for two in-state teams! Cheer up Buckeye fans, we're still head and shoulders above that nonsense!

@STEENSN I don't see what is so important about 'downvotes'. Let them do it. I don't care. Yes, I should have stayed but the team was giving me fits from the first play (thanks Storm Klein!). I will not be leaving early again. Now, selling my ticket for Illinois is still a possibility lol

Eventually your post disappear just because people don't like your opinion or what you did. If ti was just a tally, it wouldn't matter so much.
Never understood those who leave before the game is over, no matter what the score. The people that leave at the end of the 3rd quarter amaze me.
It was funny seeing people come back into the stands in OT. Also, many of you will remember that I have defended the noise level in the shoe several times this year. Well it was downright pathetic against Purdue. Many times imwasnthe only person in my section making noise.

When I first read the subject for this thread, I thought it said "Fanlines" as in rhymes with "Tanlines"...I was wrong. This thread has nothing to do with getting a suntan.
this is so common its a non issue, whether its wrong or right it happens and it wont stop, you need to get over it and realize these people more than likely learned their lesson the VERY hard way, your making it seem like they need psychiatric treatment for what they did, i live in durham, nc and duke fans, up until this season, would never stick around but what if one day they made a come back of epic proportions and only 250 people were there to see it. are we really going to blame duke fans for leaving early? dont get me wrong i half agree with this but one example was watching osu lose to NWstrn in 04 and i kept hoping theyd make that one play to get them the win and it never hapened and lord knows i wish i wouldve given up on that game
I've always stayed until the end of each game I've attended. Including a blowout of San Jose St. a few years back in TP's soph. year. There's nothing like being in the Shoe on a Saturday afternoon/evening.
