As McGuffey Lane would have put it First year of a NEW system and we are 7-0. In my eyes I see a team that is very consitant getting better each and every week and is getting the best shot that the opposing team has to give all because who we are. As long as this team keeps playing to the level of competition we are playing against we have a chance to win them all. Next years definition of consistant might be a little different.

First off, you are not a fair weather fan for stating the obvious. No one is jumping ship, just stating facts. Second, we must have a different definition of the work consistent. We might be winning but we are doing so by the skin of our teeth against VERY inferior competition. The offense is clearly improving, but the defense is going in the opposite direction. This is not a new system on defense, its players not playing well...poor tackling, being out of position, and not executing. That's why many OSU fans are worried.
Terrible title waycracken... man of extremes...
This team is not by any means getting better on defense (you could even throw special teams in there if you want...or at least a step back on punt team). In fact, I'd say they're getting worse despite the injuries (should be next man up...but with Boren in...it seems anyman besides Curtis Grant). The offense is getting better....and we're 7-0 and undefeated...for now. You can take this to the bank, "If OSU gets another 40 spot put on this defense, then Fick will be demoted and Withers will be calling plays." Bank that...that's not fair weather Way...that's just facts. That prevent BS needs to stop and an actual pass rush needs to commence. That's why Indiana's dink and dunk spread bs worked last night. I just can't understand with OSU's defense seeing a spread offense every week in practice, why ohhh why they can't defend one from an opponent? That's what I struggle with personally.

That is a coaching issue and can be corrected. One of the few things in this game that you have control over.
...bhop, the spread offense that our D sees is very different from the IU spread. We run a spread option-they run a spread passing scheme with quick reads and passes. They only ran a handful of "5" step drops last night. The pass rush can do nothing about that.
I agree with waycracken. People are way too upset about a team that is 7-0 in a season where the last game is UM no matter what. People are upset and demanding the defensive coaching staff demote or fire people for next year.
People see the name Indiana and assume they are bad on offense. Kevin Wilson has quickly put an effective passing spread on the field that is averaging over 30 a game and put points all over Michigan state too. We are terrible vs pass first spread offenses with our back seven depth and their lack of experience in the scheme. But it's not getting worse other than injuries. It was already bad vs Miami and UAB. Indiana is way better than those teams on offense and turned our mistakes into touchdowns instead of first downs on third and 21 or whatever.
It won't get better until next year at this point but Purdue and penn state are the only passing offenses that scare me at all. I think we can slow down Michigan enough.
It's not the point we're 7-0...it's the point that this is not Buckeye defense. I can't stand seeing a team gash us for 22 4th quarter points with 12:53 on the clock. Can you honestly with a straight face say that you enjoyed that and would like to see Purdue game be 45-42 just to be 8-0??? Really??? I tend to say I'd like to see OSU put together a win on all three phases...that's what I want. At this point too many are happy with mediocrity is the problem. A win is a win but this was extremley ugly...you have to admit that.

I don't think anyone is satisfied with how the games are playing out defensively. I believe what gets us riled up is the fact that people are getting angry over a team that is 7-0 and demanding action on the defensive staff.
Let's be honest-this is the Tressel Staff's recruits playing D (excluding the true freshmen). We have never been good against a spread passing attack-ever. We have made the spread option not look like heroes, but there has been some times where that got us too. I think the last three recruiting classes of the Tressel era were not what we think of them. We have not put defensive players in the pro's like we did in the early 2000's. But yet we are yelling at Fick and Withers who changed the style of D we played with guys that were here before.
Ryan timmons will fix all 3 aspects of the team
"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got 9 guys who better go do it again," said Meyer. "Do it a little harder next time."
.
First year new system and we have been able to play at the level of our competition each and every week. This is pretty much the same exact team we had last year without some who graduated. Im absolutely thrilled about the team and have visions of where Meyer is taking it. Keep the low blows aimed at me Farmbuck and the kids name out of it. No reason to be sarcastic.
I'll gladly take 7-0, regardless of what has happened, and hope that next week we allow much fewer points while our offense continues to rack up the points.
Class of 2010.
I'll give the new system in terms of the offense, that is a 180 turn. But the defense is still pretty much what it was, with some new faces running it. I guess that is what is frustrating. I am sure many expected the growing pains to be on offense and the defense to be the steady aspect of the team. Somehow it flip flopped.
Worst defensive showing of the year... and we're getting better?!
Anyone saying that not being happy with this defense because we are 7-0 in not alright is missing the point...
You can give me any reason you'd like but I'm sorry to say that I am not gonna be to positive about a defensive performance like that one! 7-0 is awesome but I think like many others we have no choice (becasue of the bowl ban) to look ahead to next year and drool over the possibilities of a National Title run. Offense is getting better every week while the defense that has the talent has gotten more undisiplined and worse every week. Do you think the coaching staff says oh-well we are 7-0 lets stay positive and just be fortunate that we are unbeaten? I garuntee that Urban is gonna have some serious talks with the defensive coaches this week and you I'd bet that this will be a huge issue if it doesn't get better soon.
I completely agree but I e xpected to see a season full of transitions and to be 7-0 is fantastic.
Honestly I could care less what our record is this year. This is a transition year and Meyer is getting this team ready to hit the ground running next season and we should be a National Tiltle contender. Atleast I thought so until our defense continued this style of play that could be best described as unmotivated/undisiplined/care-free. The talent is there but the play does reflect that. With that front 4 and our db's we should be able to hold solid teams to a respectable number. We miss assignments and don't tackle consistently, I though it was originally just big plays but now it is basically all the time. Honestly I don't know if it is all bad coaching but it is definatly not worthy of a traditional Buckeye defense!
I just never imagined that OSU would be one of those teams who needed to out score their opponents because it lacked a solid defense. Teams like that (Oregon, WVU) never really make it to the next level.

Our defense is down right embarrassing at times and so is some of our fanbase.
