Apparently, Urban was informed of a freshman player who's name I will keep quiet's use of drugs. This player isn't on the the team anymore, but Urban chose to drug test the whole freshman class anyways. Here's to hoping there's no positive tests.
P.S. the player is not Tyrone Williams

Triv is it anyone who has been contributing this season? Is it a recruit from the previous regime?
Interesting that it was just the freshman class. Hopefully those guys are staying clean during the season.
I am not entirely sure how or even if Urban plans to tell the media about said player, which is why I don't want to say anything out of respect for the player and the coaches. I'm guessing it will come out at the Wednesday practice interviews but I'm not sure.
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Why do I have a really bad feeling its southward..
I dont always root for college athletics, but when i do (which is most of the time) I choose THE Ohio State Buckeyes.
Thanks for the heads up Triv its never good to hear about things of this nature just hope people learn lessons from it. Also classy move on your part by not throwing names out there youd make a heck of a journalist with that integrity!
i heard from a guy who heard it from his cousins roomate who is brothers with a guy on the team. Braxton is getting kicked off
Man I hate to hear stuff like this. Why cant these kids realized how blessed they are to have this opportunity and not mess it up. Hopefully it was just a bad rumor and everyone was negative
No one wants to see this happen, but I'm happy that we have a coach that is going to hold our players accountable to what it means to be Ohio State football players. Hopefully the involved parties can work through their individual battles and find a way to contribute to the team if so.
WB
Remember drugs may not be the sole reason for that person not being on the team anymore. I would say most likely that the person departing most likely told his parents or an authority that he wasnt the only one therefore Urban making the only choice he is left with. Didnt I read on here not to long ago a freshman RB caught red handed with pot but passed it off on his mother? Interesting that I havent seen too much of that RB. He must be hurt.
Where theirs smoke theirs fire is what ive always said.
Does that mean Dunn is Done
O H I O is the Buckeye State
Why did this get voted down? It was obviously a joke. I laughed. funny stuff man!
October 20th: National Kenneth Guiton Day
Is weed grounds for harsh punishment, or if its full dismissal is it something more severe? Just curious.
I would have to assume it's someone that has gotten in trouble with drugs before if he is being dismissed or Urban is running a really tight ship. Either way these kids have to get the message by now that these actions won't be tolerated.
A freshman player... drug use... not on the team anymore... testing the rest of the team.... not tyrone williams....
So wait... this means another player is getting axed?
Yes that's how I understood it.
Put the bongs down and stop rolling you own "cigs" Freshman!
If a freshman is tested positive, they will only be suspended, correct? As it would be their first time being caught.
First time being caught. Now thats funny. I personally think their should be 0 tolerance. It should not be that hard to obey the law follow team rules and show respect. In the real world you are fired from your job. Because you are an athlete attending college on our dime should make them think more about their responsibility.
Another point is that I am most confident that these players have been told on many occassions the consequences for their own personal actions.
If you were a parent of one of these athletes wouldnt you rather send your kid to a program that is showing these kids the right way to conduct themselves and therefore you are assured their are less problems and temptations when they go away from home. If their PotHeads they can always go to the U or colleges that look upon drug use as something minor.

~Bo Schembechler
JakeBuckeye, there are some things we don't joke about. Braxton getting kicked off of the team is one of them. I hated even saying that sentence.
And Waycracken, there are random drug tests at my workplace, but these are freshmen, and there should not be 0 tolerance, IMHO, because they are freshmen. If they screw up, they deserve punishment, but they also deserve a second chance.
Stoneburner and Mewhort were given second chances for using alcohol. Why 0 tolerance for weed? Consistency is important.
edit: actually Stoneburner and Mewhort were disciplined for peeing in public, I guess. Did they actually get in trouble for underage drinking, or are they 21? I can't remember the details.
"Political correctness is tyranny with manners." Charlton Heston(1924-2008)
Mathieu at LSU was busted more than a bakers dozen for being a crackhead and that was kept under wraps a long time.
Tomorrow
They're 21 ^
If it's Dunn, it won't be his first strike.
If it is Dun and he pops hot then that will bring in question the weed in the car when he got pulled over and got out off it and said coach that was not mine i was using someone elses car. So not only did he lie to UFM but he also lied to the police to save is butt. that would get him kicked out.
Waycraken, you were referring to Bri'onte Dunn. He was driving his Mom's car, and she claimed the stuff was hers. Bri'onte had to take a drug test and passed. His charges were decreased to disorderly conduct, and I believe he was found not guilty.
How frequently does this stuff happen at other schools? (as in multiple players being removed from the team) I know it happens, but I feel like we've had a decent amount of players suspsended / removed from the program recently. Maybe if I followed other teams more closely I'd see it's a pretty common occurance?
Greg Jennings "I put my team on my back"
We have to remember, they're children... 19 years old at the most-- they're going to screw up.. I'm not a fan of the 0 tolerance belief that would result in a 1st time offense leading to removal from the team. It definitely warrants penalty or consequences, but not removal from the team.. I find that crazy..
Remember that in the end you will be judged not by what you believed, planned or dreamed; but, by what you did.
Exactly - that makes me think, if this is more than just a rumor that other violations had been made in the past for said (unsaid technically) individual. They're not getting kicked off as a 19 year old for pot first violation.
Greg Jennings "I put my team on my back"
I'm good with testing them. Our high school coach wants to do it to. My son says half the team would be gone though.
If it's Dunn, he truly is a moron. Maybe he thought he already got the test out of the way so he wouldn't have to worry about it?
But wasn't his test from an independant lab, since it was a case against him and the university was not involved. Call me a skeptic, but I would think that it wouldn't be too hard to pass a drug screen if you go to the "right" lab.
OMG IT MIGHT BE SPENCE!!! PLEASE DON'T LET IT BE SPENCE!!!! PLEASEEEEEEE!1!1!1 lol
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
Let's not jump to conclusions just yet... Last thing anyone wants to do is wrongly target a buckeye player, let alone a newbie...
There could be smoke where there's fire...or, this could be a moot point. Either way, I have a feeling that if it was a player of the caliber of Spence, we wouldn't first be hearing about it through an 11W forum post (i.e. guys like Lesmerises, Rabinowitz, May, and the 11W staff would have already broke it).
I would guess it was one of the walkon players. When I checked the roster yesterday there are over 40 freshman listed.
If he's drug testing the whole freshman class I'd bet a hand full of guys get busted.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
Does Urban have a 1 time and done policy? What is his policy on drugs?
^^^ this would be my guess also.
GO BUCKS!
I'm not picking on anyone, but I have a real problem with the saying: "Where there's smoke there's fire..."
Anyone who's tried to start a fire by rubbing two sticks together knows damn well that there's often times plenty of smoke but no friggin fire! And even though all your hard work might yield you a little smoke it does not guarantee you a friggin fire!
Sorry.
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
From what I have heard this week there was another player removed from the team when TY Williams was removed. I would suspect that it was a walk-on. If it were a high profile guy there is no way we wouldn't have heard about it by now.
vacuuming sucks
I would suspect that if someone is being booted off the team for "drug use"--and that rumours of said player using them caused the head coach to drug test the entire class--the drug in question is probably not marijuana. Let's be real here, folks; tons of players smoke it and get suspended for it--but not a lot wind up out of school for it. This is bigger than weed.
I never really understood why someone who has their entire future handed to them would jepordize it for just one round with drugs. Its not that hard to go to class, go to practice, play football and have you're fun while in school. Good luck! Let's hope its not more than one and that their mentor(s) on the football team are setting a positive example for them.
You tell the SEC when they can learn to read and write, then they can figure out what we're doing. - Gordon Gee
I've never heard of a team that has a 1 time drug test failure and you're out policy. If a kid is getting booted for drugs, it's for multiple failed tests, or it's because of multiple other issues and drugs happen to one of the them.
Se'Von Pittman???
Reeves???
Normally there is some type of progressive discipline for this type of thing. As I understand it each school has their own policies for positive tests and the punishments vary in severity. There are article out there on this just google them.
um, why are we randomly naming athletes? Doesn't seem right to just pick some names based on ill conceived notions.
the random athletes are high profile recruits... im not convinced its ill concieved notions, rather, players the 11w community are worried about... i dont think it was just weed 70% of college athletes blaze ( in bball prolly much higher than that) and if it was a high profile guy we would know by now
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
Why would we be worried about them? Is it because we haven't heard their names mentioned? No playing time? Where they are from?
Who isn't a high profile recruit at tOSU? That is what makes it dangerous to just start naming people. It is not fair to them and it allows people minds to wonder on something we know absolutely nothing about. It is not right or fair to openly judge these to players based on ill conceived notions. They have not done anything to merit any mentioning of them with a drug test.
Personally i believe for the entire team to get tested I believe one of the recruits that was shown the door most likely named names to authorities about others that also endulged. Hence the phrase WHERE THERES SMOKE THERE IS FIRE might be quite appropriate since the entire class hopefully has already been tested. Nothing more irrelevant than an announced drug test. Most of the time they are unannounced.
@TRIV just tell us who it is? If you already know why would it matter if we know? If these allegations are true we will find out anyway.
@Triv you say he is already off the team. Why would this not be released to the public already?
someone just come out and say who it is!
#Buckeyes
This thread is pointless.
I think he said enough and should not reveal a name. I also doubt if you ever get a reason why the player had discipline other than violating team rules. I am surprised at so many wanting to forgive pot smoking. Its much more than pot smoking when a kid chooses to smoke pot and does not consider the impact it has on so many.
I believe the Meyer pot policy is two strikes, you're out.
Triv, you're one of my favorite posters on the site, but you should let it out. Otherwise it seems just very speculative. Although, I would assume we would hear today if something happened.
Well BCast said he's heard another WR in addition to Williams has left the team. Combining that with the info that it's a freshmen that means its either Michael Thomas, Riquan Southward or Frank E. Thomas has been seeing much more playing time lately, so I'd guess it's one of the other two.
Could this be in reference to "performance enhancing" drugs? You don't mention which drug and I tend to agree with Hodge that it's a bit extreme for weed. Granted all of this is wild speculation and I hope is just a rumour, but PED's seem more reasonable than weed. IMO.
PEDs more likely than weed? It's college, it's much easier (and more likely) for athletes to get their hands on weed than PEDs. I guess we shall see...
Don't think it's Fields, as was speculated yesterday. My money would be on Southward, after his subtle issues earlier this year.
do we have a timetable on this announcement?
"Winter is coming" - Urban Meyer
Well Meyer addressed the media/fans (call in show) ~three times a week. I bet it comes out sometime during the other two (Monday was the first time). The athletic department has yet to say anything. Shoot for this afternoon.
I spoke with Alex and he advised me not to say anything else on the matter until it is confirmed by the team. I apologize if I sound like a prick for saying this but not releasing the name, but I feel it should be released by the team. Not my place to say
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Bad Luck Triv..Does the right thing
Everyone hates him..lol I support ya, Bud!
"Winter is coming" - Urban Meyer
One way or another, this house is going to get cleansed. Urban isn't going to mess around. Down in florida it is hard to stop rampant pot use, especially in Gainesville, so I assume he is putting more of an emphasis on stopping this. Intoxication by any means during off-season is a bad idea around OSU let alone during football season.
Good luck and godspeed whoever it is! Hopefully not someone we will miss!
I think Triv not saying who is the absolute right thing to do. Anything can change and once it's out there is no taking it back. Sometimes these written words come back to haunt you.
All good Triv, gotta keep things in order! I don't think we'll have to wait much longer anyway.
As the poster above me stated, things change and nothing is final until it's announced by the team (see Fields, Chris).
I would imagine it will be announce at the after practice press conference, aren't those on Wednesdays?
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Not mad at triv at all but If the info cannot be provided then this post should not have been created.
Hardly home but always reppin
@Triv,
Yes I believe the media gets access to Meyer on Wednesday afternoon. If it isn't brought up, I guarentee someone calls in about it on the UFM Call in Show.
This is kind of like telling a joke and not giving a punch line...it just leaves everyone sitting here waiting. Can you at least provide an answer as to whether or not this player has contributed on the field this year, so we can estimate the likelihood of a collective pants-shitting?
I agree with Blaze.....this will just get fans riled up until the announcement is made, and the suspense will kill us, smh.
@Highwire,
From what BCast has gathered (a WR) and what Triv has gathered (drug related), and based on the freshman wide receivers we have (Thomas, Epitropolous, Southward), it's likely they haven't contributed much in the regular season. Mike Thomas has been they best frosh receiver, and he hasn't really done much in the regular season. I think we can probably put the collective pants-shitting on hold.
Thanks Urbz
According to the recent roster on ohiostatebuckeys.com, there are 2 other frosh WRs listed,
Kangah and Gwilym
Triv said this play is not on the team anymore, but according to the official roster on October 1 (two days ago) it seems all freshman are accounted for.
I would rather have incomplete information than be completely ignorant with no information at all. I am content with the information, which has been provided and I understand why the rest must be withheld until confirmed by the university itself. We are talking about real peoples lives and we shouldn't throw accusations and names around on the internet. It would be awfully embarrassing to have family or friends find out about your dismissal from the team by those methods.
can we just blame Duron Carter?
I apologize if I hurt anybody by withholding this player's name until the University announces it. Alex did a similar thing in saying he has knowledge of a recruit contemplating flipping to OSU, but wants to keep it quiet out of respect for the kid and his family until he makes an announcement. I tried to follow Alex's lead with this topic, but I realize it is a slightly different piece of information. Perhaps in the future I will keep these things to myself until OSU or another media outlet releases the full story to avoid this sort of controversy
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
I would much rather lose a non-contributing freshman WR for being an idiot and using drugs than be in Georgia's situation where you lose a Senior WR who is a leader on the team to a torn ACL. Your education is being payed for and all you have to do is follow simple rules, if you cant do that, goodbye.
Yes, blame everything on DC.
And from what I've heard, this news is likely legitimate and should be coming soon, just to make things more vague. Sorry guys, but everything should become clear soon.
Triv- Don't sweat it. This is just a learning experience, hopefully for all of us.
If we are going to wait for word from the University then why bring it up in the first place @wside i guess if it gives us something to talk about then i guess its fine.... I just don't think a post was necessary we will have to agree to disagree.... shout out to triv I still think your cool no negative shot at you ...
Hardly home but always reppin
I say we add this to the 11W commenting policy:
PS - i'm only kidding. sort of...
@TRIV - I don't get what the big deal is about you not announcing the name. I appreciate you telling us what you could. Hopefully, you won't be discouraged in the future from doing the same thing. It seems like you have an inside track to information, I always look forward to hearing what you can tell us.
I want to throw out a random name! Abe Lincoln!....Hammurabi!...uhhhhhhhh Joe! That's all the inside info I got....sorry guys
Wherever you are, there you be!
Well, one thing is clear, per usual: "URBZRENEWAL" is his typical derp-head self. He thinks he's a know-it-all. Go back to Mt. Derpula, URBZ
What was wrong with anything Urbz posted?
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
What?
yo guys, homeboy just comes off as smug
# DERP_FEST '12 #
Sorry guys. I didn't mean to talk down on one of our players. I only mentioned a name because I was concerned about him and think he will do great things here at tOSU.
@JOSHY614 - Per the commenting policy:
aw come on Hodgey, don't be so sensitive
@TRIV - what dude, I don't even know how to upvote. I'm new on here --- I mean I've been watching from a far, but new as far as commenting
@JOSHY614 - Not trying to be, mate; just trying to help you avoid the banhammer. Cheers, and go Bucks!
Also, we have a comment rating system that allows people with a total of over 50 "helmet stickers" to vote on comments. Anything people perceive to be trolling or insulting to another poster will almost surely be downvoted. If your aggregate total sinks to -50, you're effectively banned from commenting.
I got you, Hodgey -- it's cool. Dang, hope they ain't so easy to ban someone for that...that's touchy. just sayin
but yea yeah
GO BUCKS!
You won't get banned, but we typically try to avoid personal attacks on another poster. All buckeyes here, save for a few
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
do we have a Wayans brother suiting up for the Bucks this year? If so - my $ would be that it's that guy who failed the drug test
Southward my guess.
BUCKS4REAL, don't guess off of ill-concieved notions, you will get downvoted. (See my grayed-out post above)
If they drug tested the whole team and had a zero tolerance policy, I don't know if we could fill a roster by Saturday. That's not to say that our whole team is pot smoking thugs, just that marijauna is socially accepted by most of the under 30s today. People have realized that it doesn't hurt you physically like cigs and alcohol, and the policy makers haven't caught up. But the politics of pot are a whole different issue, and politics are not permitted here, so I digress.
I don't think it was a one-strike, you're out kind of thing. I believe he said that a freshman who failed is no longer with the team. He didn't say they were kicked off FOR drugs. So, perhaps it was a freshman who failed that drug test, got in the dog house, got their head in a bad place and decided to quit.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
My position is this: triv's post is legit. His first sentence is not. Speculation is fun.
He said the player is no longer with the team...and was not Williams...can't think of who left as a freshman.
Ray Small Jr?
Clarett got kicked off agian?
Triv you have absolutely nothing to apologize about like i said it was a very sincere and classy move on your part something not often done in these times of social media and journalisitic integrity: see lack thereof
Update: A player on the Ohio State Buckeyes has been positively tested for 3 different types of anabolic steroids and a low grade beaver tranquilizer.
GOD DAMMIT BERNICE
You guys need to chill Triv is doing his job. If it were you or your kid would you want everyone knowing before it was publicly released?
Dude if I could upvote you 100 times for the Dodgeball reference I would.
no word yet! I guess it is still in process or something? Just wondering if I missed the announcement.
Read in the Boarding House today that it is Southward. Although it doesn't mention drugs, jsut says that he has left the program and that it was mutual. Didn't like that he wasn't getting a shot to play and was homesick.
So there you go.
Didn't Southward commit to us without ever visiting? Not saying it would have made a difference but I always questioned making such a big decision without ever getting to know your new surroundings. That said, I like having more schollies for the upcoming class.
Southward is the name that I was told
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
There you have it. Good luck Southward! From what I remember, he was the first to commit after the announcement that Urban will sign with OSU. It is the way it goes when you want to play for a big program. He would have found the same situation at any program he would have gone to.
He has not been happy for some time now. I know he's really homesick, but I also get the impression he did not feel like he fit in here very well.
Also one of his tweets : Some ppl wud say it's sad that ur mother cares more Abt money than ur happiness.. #ItMotivatesMe
I feel for the kid and hope he finds happiness where ever that may be.
I really thought Southward would be a sleeper star... bummer...
bummer to hear best of luck to him
Wow I could've guessed Southward wasn't going to work out here..i don't know why just had that feeling.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
I respect you Triv for holding your info like you did. I know peer pressure can be a mother! Cheers and go bucks!
How Firm Thy Friendship....
Southward reminds me a lot like James Louis. Never seemed to fit in but had a ton of potential. Hope Southward catches on somewhere and has a decent college career.
TRIV, thank you for the info, despite the fact you couldn't immediately divulge everything you knew.
Dang, I hoped Southward would work out and I hope this doesn't drag anyone else down with him. Bad day regardless...
"The revolution will be televised."
Thanks for the heads up Triv. Now where's Brutus when he's needed??
-The Aristocrats!
So was it the freshman drug test that took out a kid or was the drug test after? It sounds like the rest of the class came out ok? I hope so.
The drug test was administered after Southward left the team, I guess it got back to Urban Southward wasn't exactly clean when he quit. I haven't heard anything on the tests yet
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
