Dantonio says it appears that Gholston was stunned and maybe even had the wind knocked out of him...Sure thats it...just woozy from getting knocked out! Call it what it was...its not that big a deal. Get him rest and play the back up. I mean come on Fragel Rock shut Gholston down anyways.
How can he say that they werent trying to gouge Hankins eyes. Everyone can see that, my wife even saw that! I cant believe that MSU would even let him play this weekend after trying to do that. I know its a football game and its a tough sport, but that is just crazy to try and gouge someones eyes for football and there wasnt even a fumble! I cant believe the coach defended him like that. He said both players got up after the play so nothing clearly happened. What a joke!!

We won the game, anything else is just noise.
Let's focus on avenging the Nebraska loss last year
If Dantonio is spouting that he is full of shit.
I agree with OSU07ASU10, but for Dantonio to say that nothing happened, inferring that not action should be taken cuz no one was hurt is completely ridiculous, IMO.
So if someone did lose an eye, then it would be grounds for serious action, that I agree with, but clearly sticking your fingers in the face mask, going for the eyes, not doing harm, and getting up after is fine and should go on unpunished? come on dude. If I swung at my boss and missed, I doubt I can just walk back to my desk and continue working man. I am gonna be fired....
What an idiot.... "They both got up and walked back... nothing happened.... if you look at the play cleanly, that is what happened...." This dude is smoking some mad green, Lucky that his main school color is green, can probably get away with it on campus, saying its confetti or something..... idiot....
edit: maybe people disagree, but I continue to lose respect for this guy. At the beginning of the season I did not mind MSU that much, I enjoyed their games. Now it is getting to the point where I dislike them a whole lot. Still slightly above hate, loathe, despise, etc.
They play Indiana this week. Would have been easy for him to suspend the kid for this game and look like he was doing the right thing. But why start doing the right thing now?
Poorly veiled attempts at plausible deniability on both events.
Dantonio is really starting to annoy me.....
Simple rationale here - the players are just a reflection of their head coach.
Keep Calm and Ignore the Trolls.
Dantonio is really setting the bar high for his players and their future behavior....
I'm sorry, but Dantonio is turning into a real Douchenhiemer. "Stay classy East Lansing."
He runs a tight ship, I think but man some his players are dicks....12 personal fouls in 5 years against UM. Now I'm all for beating Michigan football but the way the Spartans have gone about it is embarassing.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
The Gholston thing - yeah, I call BS. He got KTFO. He got helmet-to-helmet hit by his own teammate and was briefly motionless. Braxton Miller had to lay on the ground for extra time because Gholston's big ass was kind of on top of him. I'm no physics or medical expert, but helmet-to-helmet contact doesn't lead to "wind knocked out".
The eye-poke thing - that happened, too. Not cool. However, it has been said that many nasty things like eye gouging happen in piles after plays by people who have played in the NFL. Part of the game or not, still no excuse. I look at it like if you low blow someone in an organized fight, that's a DQ - so something cheap like eye gouging deserves some kind of punishment.
Class of 2010.
Breaking: Dantonio also says water isn't wet and the sky isn't blue.
~Because we couldn't go for three~
Well I think I am officially beginning to look at Dantonio in the same way I look at Bielema.
Pete Carroll also says Golden Tate made a great play for a game winning touchdown...
Golden Tate also said he didn't push off the corner back to try and make the catch. A bunch delusional liers up there in Rain town.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
He probably also said Gholston didn't try to rip Denards head off last year
If he actually said that Gholston wasn't concussed, he needs to watch the tape because he would be a flat out liar...
used to root for msu in games other than vs. tosu just because of the debt of gratitude i felt i owed dantonio for his early 2000's defenses. the lack of action on the eye gouge and gholston re-entering shows that he and/or his staff has no concern for his own players or for his opponents. im done rooting for msu except for when they play the stink farm from west of detroit.
the kids are playing their tail off, and the coaches are screwing it up! - JLS
Urban Meyer says an eye gouge is only worth a 1/2 game suspension.......right Brandon Spikes?
Question, is the head coach supposed to admit mistakes and call out his staff or players on national TV or do some damage control?
To all this and that about what happened to Gholston...I only have this to say. And by his own player no less...that's why you shouldn't lead with your head;-)

Refusing to suspend the kid is one thing, refusing to say either incident happened is stupid and irresponsible. If my kid's playing on that team, I'm calling the AD. If my kid is being recruited by them, he ain't going.
"The revolution will be televised."
I would say there should be an investigation by the B1G into this but MSU might accuse Urban of cutting out the film so they did not see Gholston laying limp on Braxton for approximately 2 minutes!
and that wasn't an eye gouge, it was a high five with his eyeballs!
I would have preferred he acknowledge the incidents but not do anything about them. To say that they did not happen is just ridiculous.
Dantonio has always been annoying and a "douchweiner", guys, hahaha. His duties for the Ohio State football program just coated that for a while for many of us. Not anymore.
October 20th: National Kenneth Guiton Day
I would like to agree with Dantonio one one thing. He was not breathing for a small period of time caused solely by the head to head contact. Now when he came to (which may have been nearly the same time the trainers arrived) i would not doubt that his very first breath would have been a gasp. Hence the breath was literally knocked out of him!!
Actually, Dantonio did argue the personal foul call on that play! Dantonio was screaming at the refs. The helmet twist by Gholston was at the bottom of the pile, on the far side from where Dantonio was. But it is -- amazingly -- the case, that Dantonio protested the call. I suppose that I can give Dantonio this much; there were so many foul-calls to make on that play, with Gholston piling on late and then twisting Denard's helmet almost 180 degrees, Dantonio might not have liked whatever the refs happened to choose in announcing the call
At this point, after Dantonio had already allowed Gholston to return to play, he would never openly admit that Gholston was out cold. I figured that he'd never cop to that. It's crazy though that Dantonio has obviously placed more importance on the game than over the safety of the player. That in itself is utterly disgusting! In the history of man, no one has ever had the wind knocked out of them and got up off the ground and shook their head to shake out the cobwebs...not ever.

I read that Hankins was ALSO sticking his hand in the MSU guy's facemask. Anyone know about this? Is that true? I hope not...
Hankins hand was ON not IN Allen's facemask
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Trying to push the A Hole away that was gouging at his eyes. A natural reaction to fight back.

@Brewster
I agree, but the personal foul statistics can be a bit misleading. Don't get me wrong, I'll be the first to label state as a "Dirty" team, and last year there were lots of cheap shots and the helmet twist. However, facemasks, clips, illegal blocks, hits along the sideline, etc that are often called don't always equate to dirty play.
With that said, F Mark Dantonio!
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

Ohio State doctored the eye gouging video. :)
Tomorrow
MSU is as dirty as they come. Not sure if many saw it or not but I think it may have been Braxtons second run of the game and Gholstein tackled him out of bounds and then proceeded to lay on him, pushing his weight down on him well after a normal tackle. While I watched it I couldnt help but think back to the Denard neck breaker. Have lost all respect for Dantionio and MSU.
OSU/Mich is as heated rivalry as they come but more times than not it is simply a hard hitting football game with mutual respect. MSU has zero respect for anyone and it is really becoming tiredsome. Its going to take someone getting eriously injured before they ever stop and even then with Dantonio it will be questionable.
"I'll fire when I'm god damn good and ready! You got that?" - Pete "Maverick" Mitchel
What many of you don't know, and it is because it has been kept a secret to protect the player, but Gholston suffers from Narcolepsy. What you saw was a case of the desease taking over and he simply fell asleep. The reason Danonio is claiming the wind was knocked out of him is to protect him from the stigma of Narcolepsy.
And you people have the nerve to bash Dantonio. You should all be ashamed.
Simple solution to the question was Gholston out...ask Braxton.
"It's just another case of there you are". ~ Doc (1918-2012)
How would Braxton know? He was under all that dead weight? Ooooops.
lol... nice one, Oyster..
Dantonio continues to chose the tougher path here. Why make life harder for yourself?
Only Gohlston's arm was on Braxton. It was clear that they told Braxton not to move because Gohlston was not responsive and they feared a spinal injury. I also saw the bush league move by Gohlston that Chitown mentions. I thought there was a ton of "chippy" play on the part of MSU that bordered on unsportsmanlike conduct.
Dantonio is hard to like just based on facial expressions and body language. Then with this type of play and his denials - definitely a douchewagon.
I think while we are throwing around the "dirty" moniker, we should probably give Gholston that title independent of his coach. The guy just seems like someone who wants to push the envelope and take it above and beyond the game. Kind of reminds me of Suh sometimes.

regardless of being out or not, he most certainly wasn't the same beast i was used to seeing. Dantonio may have done us all a favor by putting him back in the game, he appeared to be sleepwalking.
