Commitment This Weekend

If you haven't looked at the visitor thread you should.  There is an extensive list of recruits that will be attending the game.  I'd like to see 3-4 on the list commit, but that's obviously wishful thinking.  Take a look at the list and pick the recruit you think might commit.  I personally think Chris Worley could be the guy.  What are your thoughts?

I just want James Quick in the class because of the myriad nicknames that we're going to make for him:

"Jimmy Q"

"The Quickster"

"NesQuick"

And if he sucks,

"Quicksand"

You guys really think Quick could commit?  I think he rides his out until the end of the season, but I could be wrong.  I think Worley commits because I believe if Bell commits before him, they don't take his commitment.

Triv's picture
Triv on 3 Oct 2012 - 10:32am #

Quick will most likely stay uncommitted until Strong's status at Louisville is confirmed. People I could see potentially committing are:

1) Worley

2) Munger

3) Booker

4) Timmons (if staff offer this weekend)

5) Barker (same as Timmons)

6) Trout (see above 2)

7) Lattimore (unlikely, as he is just begun to feel the love of big time programs)

8) Gibson (if academics allow)

Hopefully we can snag one or two of these guys and move on on guys like DJ and Quicks lists

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

@TRIV - You think Lattimore holds off?  I don't know, it sounded like OSU was his "dream" offer.  Perhaps he didn't expect to make such a spash on the recruiting scene, though.

Triv's picture
Triv on 3 Oct 2012 - 10:36am #

@Hodge  Yes that was my guess. I do think he ends up a Buckeye, but not for a while. Maybe next Summer or during his senior season, but with the big time programs starting to pay attention, I see him holding off a little bit. Also, it has usually been the Glenville way to extend the recruiting process to get other players noticed.

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

One of the issues with going after such highly sought-after recruits (Bell, Quick, Foster) is that they really don't have to commit on "our" time. With that in mind, the only recruit I can see committing this weekend is Worley if they let him. I don't think they will quite yet.

Buckeye_in_SEC_country's picture
Buckeye_in_SEC_... on 3 Oct 2012 - 10:40am #

I believe Worley will commit, but I'd like to see a 2013 skill guy or 2014 QB.

Lattimore. I wouldn't be shocked if Worley is waiting on grades or a test score like Gibson.

bucknut8's picture
bucknut8 on 3 Oct 2012 - 11:44am #

I really think Worley will pull the trigger this weekend if they let him.

I think we take Worley because to me it seems like things with Bell are shifting into another direction. Im not saying we have no chance w/Bell, it just seems him canceling his visit, he visited Bama last week, Tenn was rumored the favorite from the get go, & him just highly considering Bama & Auburn all of a sudden just seems like he will stay south & not be a Buckeye. I wanted Bell in this class really bad, but I just dont see it happening. So taking Worley is the best decision, if Bell wants in later, you dont say no to him plain and simple.

Quick will drag this out & will wait to see what happens with Strong @ L'ville.

I think getting Munger in this class would be big. A top in-state guy that has been considered an SEC type of DT. Bringing him into the OSU DL & if it dont work out, he can switch to the OL for some help (which we need) would only be a bonus.

Also getting Worley might help our chances w/ landing Elite 2014 Athlete Marshon Lattimore. Lattimore will most likely take his time as most Glenville kids do, but if getting Worley means it will help our chanes with Lattimore than Im all for it as Worley is pretty good himself, its not like taking a dud to help. Lattimore is someone we cant miss on. Lattimore has that athletecism that dosnt come around much in Ohio & bringing him to OSU to play w/ Ezekial Elliot & Jalin Marshall in the same offense could be very dynamic. Also the chance of adding 2015 ATH Eric Glover-Williams from Canton McKinley to our offense, can only make our offense, SEC fast.

I won't be disappointed, but I'd like to see some reward from an energetic atmosphere and hopefully a W against a top 25 team.  I'll be in attendance, so hopefully everything turns out positive for the good guys...

Also, a win could give Courtney Love something to think about and hopefully get into his head about flipping.

My thoughts are that Quick will go to Louisville as long as Charlie Strong is there, and the staff members I've talked to at TOS agree. If he leaves, he's all S&G.

I think of all the 2013 recruits, Chris Worley is most likely to commit next. From the class of 2014, I think Dante Booker Jr. could be a weekend commit, but that's about it.

Darkhorses for this weekend would be Shelton Gibson (I think he could pull the trigger) for 2013 and Marcelys Jones for 2014. I think Lattimore is gaining a lot of steam in his recruiting and could potentially drag it out. From what I've read, Ish Wainwright (MBK) could commit to Thad too. Watch for Dorian Johnson too, his last visit went well, maybe this one is excellent and he realizes how god awful Pitt is.

Buckeye_in_SEC_country's picture
Buckeye_in_SEC_... on 3 Oct 2012 - 1:20pm #

If you're Charlie Strong can you really pass up a SEC offer if there is one tho?  That's usually a once in a lifetime opportunity.  There really aren't any old coaches in the SEC with the exception of John L. Smith and he is the coach that will be gone.  I don't see the OBC leaving USCe... Football is his life.  If Arkansas is offered I believe Strong will take it.

Set your avi
UrbzRenewal on 3 Oct 2012 - 1:21pm #

I totally agree, I think when Arkansas offers, he's in, which is why I think in the long run Quick will be S&G. But as long as Strong is there...

Set your avi
Rural Meyer on 3 Oct 2012 - 1:26pm #

I agree, everyone jumped on me for saying Strong is gone but I think there will be a large market for him at the end of the year. UNC, Arkansas, Florida, Tennenesse, Va Tech, and Iowa could all be calling at the end of the season.

tennbuckeye19's picture
tennbuckeye19 on 3 Oct 2012 - 1:29pm #

I think the only real possibilities for Strong to land from your list are Tennessee and Arkansas.

Buckeye_in_SEC_country's picture
Buckeye_in_SEC_... on 3 Oct 2012 - 1:30pm #

UNC, Arkansas, and Iowa might have openings, but Strong isn't going to the B1G...  Arkansas would be the best bet.  UT isn't going to fire Dooley and why do people keep saying UF could be open?  They're 4-0 and could easily win 8 games.  If they upset UGA, LSU, USCe, or FSU they could easily win 9 or 10 games.  They aren't going to fire Muschamp.  These elite programs have to have a big name coach waiting to come in and take over and none of them have that.  The only way I would fire Muschamp or Dooley if I was an AD is because I had Jon Gruden or Bill Cowher lined up to come in.

bassplayer7770's picture
bassplayer7770 on 3 Oct 2012 - 1:31pm #

Rural, I somehow doubt Iowa would fire Coach Ferentz.  They seem to love him no matter what...

rdubs's picture
rdubs on 3 Oct 2012 - 1:33pm #

Also his buyout is enormous, so unless they could get him to agree not to pursue it, they will be in the hole big time.

Set your avi
Rural Meyer on 3 Oct 2012 - 1:37pm #

My cousin played ball for Florida and one of my uncles is in their hall of fame, the sense I get from them and what i've read was Muschamp was a stop gap. If they found a coach they could see themselves committing to long term I think they pull the triger. Also I think with all the flak the B1G is getting I think Iowa makes a move on the open market.

tennbuckeye19's picture
tennbuckeye19 on 3 Oct 2012 - 1:45pm #

UNC isn't gonna fire Fedora after only one year.

Doesn't Ferentz have a lifetime contract with Iowa?

As far as Tennessee goes, if they honestly think they can win with Dooley, then by all means keep him. But I believe it's obvious that they will never be the program they used to be or would like to be again if he is their HC. If money is an issue, I'm sure they have plenty of big money alumni and such that would be more than happy to write some checks to bring in someone else. Can they afford to have Dooley there another year?

Muschamp isn't going anywhere. That is crazy talk.

I doubt Va-tech gets rid of Beamer. He's kind of like Ferentz. I think he's got some sort of lifetime contract.

Arkansas is a dumpster fire that weekly John L. Smith is trying to put out by spitting on it.

Buckeye_in_SEC_country's picture
Buckeye_in_SEC_... on 3 Oct 2012 - 1:46pm #

It would have to be a big name... Look at the recruiting troubles UF has had with the de-commits already this year.  Can you imagine how many would jump ship if they fired Muschamp?  That is the problem with TN right now.  They got rid of Fulmer, Kiffin was there one year, and they've let Dooley stay 3 so far.  If the talk of firing Dooley starts and they do it, they get setback even further in recruiting.  To keep recruiting smooth you have to hire a big name or stay committed to the current staff.  The only reason we got guys like Pittman, Spence, and Dotson are because we hired Meyer.  Otherwise, they wouldn't be Buckeyes right now.

I'm not sure that Arkansas is really that much higher status than Louisville really.  Especially, if the B1G 12 expands and grabs Louisville in that expansion.  I'd h old steady at Louisville until a really high profile position comes open.  Tennessee will have an opening in the coming years and though they've been down recently, it is a much much better job than Arkansas.  Inevitably, Richt will get fired at Georgia after the fall on their face again.  A lot of that great talent Petrino amassed will be gone soon too. Strong will have to build the talent back up at Arkansas.  He won't walk into a winner.

I really don't think it's the no brainer decision to take off south.  Especially, if that job is Arkansas.

I say Quick commits to OSU no matter what.

Strong won't go to Arkansas. No coach in there right mind wants to build their careers fighting off Alabama, LSU, Auburn and Texas A&M every year. You have to play all 4 in 1 year. Most likely never get a record higher than 10-2 and never make a NCG. Strong can get those elite recruits at Louisville. He doesn't need to run to an SEC team to do that.

Louisville goes to B12 soon! They get a chunk of that B12 money and bank Strong for a long time. Strong knows what he is building in Louisville, he knows what Louisville is becoming and Tedy Bridgewater is enough to stick around and see what that kid can do. I really wouldn't put it past a B12 Louisville team vs OSU for the NC in 2014. Braxton vs Bridgewater for the Heisman and the title!

and that is the first year of the playoff system. Plus they are 2 teams that are built to have SEC speed and defense! Strong and Urban. They will be designed in 2 years to unseat Bama and Co.

Strong should never go anywhere!

From what I have heard, Louisville moving to the Big 12 is mere speculation at this point. Yes they want out of the Big East (and who can blame them), but nothing has been confirmed.

Not this weekend. When we win this game Saturday, and we will win this game, I think we move to the top of the list for the majority of our targets. The atmosphere will be electric, the victory will be resounding, and the realization that this is the program to be a part of will become clearer to all. Personally, if I was a 5 star recruit, I would have given the verbal the first time National Championship rings flashed in Mom and Dads living room. Slight chance I had one to many after work and I'm totally wrong about the commit, and we do get one. Extreme confidence on all other points.

here is the rundown, imo

-Barker: He commits on the spot if offered, but I don't think it comes this weekend.  Staff has the luxury to take their time with the '14 QB spot.

-Kizer: Don't think he gets the offer either, but I think this one would be a bloody battle with ND and UM.

-Trout: same as Barker, but again no offer.  I think the staff wants to let the OOS offers settle ina bit more to see what their OLine offers look like.  I think he gets one eventually

-Gibson: More of the same, and this one is all on academics it seems.  No idea if that has changed or not.

-Timmons: Again, more of the same.  With the Stevens decommit Timmons' status gets even more hazy.

-Johnson: Probably not a commit, but could really push him one way or another.  I think they try and get him to come back again for The Game.  If they succeed, paint the endzones.

-Munger: See Gibson minus the grades, I just don't know if they take his commitment.  Where does he fit in this class?  I think he ends up at Sparty.

-Booker: He's a lock (and I don't use that word loosely) and it'll be interesting.  A lot of the '13 class will be in his ear and he is most likely to pull the trigger.

-Worley: See Munger, but less so.  I think the staff wants Bell bad, but Worley is a damn good athlete from a pipeline.  It would be a bad idea to tell him to wait with Lattimore there.

-Lattimore: I'm torn.  I think he ends up Buckeye sooner than the typical Glenville but I think what happens with Worley this weekend goes a long way.  If he sees his teammate get super excited and accepted with the same entusiasm, this could be a big day in the Glenville/OSU pipeline.  If Worley is told to wait, or comes away with a less than entusiastic opinion, it opens up this recruitment a bit more and UFM may have to fight harder to keep him from going south.

-Jones: Don't think he is ready to end it yet, but if Worley and Lattimore jump in, it would be mighty tempting for Jones too.

Cause I couldn't go for three

Here's the thing:  Why not Johnson now?

Rationale:

1. He's already committed once - meaning he's ready to commit.

2. He's already seen Pitt many times - he knows what they can offer already, he doesn't need to see more.

3. He wants to stay "local" - committed to PSU, with Pitt and OSU in the mix - VT is a filler team in my opinion.

4. He's going to see something special this weekend, something that at the worst will be comparable to where he already committed.

5. He's going to see something special with a bunch of his potential future teammates - the 2013 recruiting class = his future football family.

6. He's going to see firsthand how ready this team is to compete on the biggest stage.

I do think it's a long shot, but when you reason it out, it's possible, especially with a great game.
