Cleveland Browns this year

Look. I know they are Cleveland. I put up with the same shit every year. But, maybe i've just been really drunk every game but i don't see them being this bad (CBSsports.com post):

Will the Browns win a game? If so, against who?
Pete Prisco: Yes. Either at Indianapolis or home against the Chiefs later in the season.
Clark Judge: Of course they will. They hung with the Bengals and Ravens. And they could ... maybe should ... beat Indianapolis in Week 7.
Mike Freeman: The Browns will win two -- against the Colts and Chiefs.
Jason La Canfora: Sure, against Bengals. It's hard to go 0-16 and they tend to get up for the battle of their home state.
Will Brinson: Potentially three of them. No, really: I could see Cleveland beating Oakland and Kansas City in December and sneaking up on someone else. That's maxing it out though.
Josh Katzowitz: Yes, Week 14 vs. the Chiefs -- who somehow are even more awful than Cleveland.
Ryan Wilson: They'll beat the Colts in Week 7, 3-2. But that's it. This is a one-win outfit.
Kevin Corke: Yes, vs. the Chiefs on Dec. 9. You've gotta have heart to live in Cleveland. Browns deliver against KC and celebrate with BBQ.

What is the view of my fellow Factory of Sadness fans?

Call me crazy, but I still see 5-6 wins for this team.  They will be a much better team in the second half.  Unless they start to spiral, which I suppose is possible if they hit 0-6 or 0-7.

I'm a chiefs fan and Browns better beat KC! I am hoping for 1-15 record so we can get rid of Cassel and draft the best QB which right now I say is Geno Smith.

The Browns haven't been dominated in any game they've played. Hell they've been better at beating themselves throughout their games. 5-7 win is what I'd say.

The Browns are a decent football team but their lack of depth is a major concern at all positions.  Without Haden the secondary got beat up, the LB's have been dealing with injuries, the offensive line hasn't been playing well and if anyone gets injured the backups are horrible, and now the WR's are banged up and the overall talent in that group is bad.  The bottom line is the Browns need another year or two to be competitive in the AFC North division because the team basically consists of a ton of rookie and 2nd year players.  TRich and Weeden continue to get better as the year goes on but I think the Browns only win 3 games this year and are selecting in the top 3 of next years draft.

I hope to god we don't draft a QB. You absolutley can not take a QB in the frst round two years in a row. Outside of the first game, Weeden actually hasn't looked bad. There are so many more pressing needs than at QB. For starters, a #1 reciever and some interior lineman.

Edit: just noticed that you were talking about the chiefs taking Geno, not the Browns.

Corner.  Even when Haden is back, they need serious help in the secondary.

The Browns look better than the Jets..a lot better!

LMAO Colon Coward just said that USC is still a year away from a title contender. Weren't they a year away last year Colin? You think they will be better with no Barkely, Kalid Holmes, Robert Woods , TJ Mcdonold , and possibly Silas Red?

What a delusional shit turd homer that guy is!

This Browns team is really not much worse than Browns teams of years past.  These guys can win 4.

Class of 2010.

What do the Browns do though if they end up with the worst record and get the #1 pick in the draft? They obviously wot be taking a QB or RB..they need weapons but do you risk taking a WR like Woods or Allen #1? Seems like half the leagues starting WR's are late round draft picks or undrafted lol. Maybe they trade the pick away for mor picks? I'd probably do that.

I actually like Weeden and wished he was on KC's team instead of Cassel. I said at the beginning of the season Weeden will surprise Cleveland fans and actually play decent. I think Richardson is a nice pick too but I think they gave up way too much to move up and get him. That was a mistake. No RB in this league today is worth that.

Nah, I was talking about the chiefs triv. Cassel sucks so bad! The guy can't throw the ball to what could be a top 5 WR combo in Bowe and Baldwin. All he does is throw dinks and dunks to anyone within 2 yards of the line of scrimmage. It kills me!

Linebacker and secondary. If the Browns don't draft one of those two spots in the first round, I'll go insane.

As good as Geno may be...I still think the Chiefs would be more likely to draft Barkley given the opportunity to.

On another note, I think the Chiefs should probably just stick Jamaal Charles at QB and let him run the "WildChief" the rest of the year seeing as he already is the team's offense. Just let him run everytime, even on 4th down. That guy is so damn good!

Matt Barkely will be the next overrated USC QB taken in the 1st round who will be a bust. If he ends up on a team with no talent..he'll disappear as fast as Jimmy Clausen and Brady Quin.

oh no no Chrome. One failed USC QB is enough. Don't need Barkley. Barkley was exposed this year and he will drop like Clausen did. I would take Geno, Wilson and probably Bray over Barkley right now! Barkley freezes under pressure and is very immobile. He also doesn't have a huge arm. Barkley is Cassel, Leinert and Palmer all over again!

Well If KC ends up at 8-8 like I expect them too, in the middle of the pack again, then we might not have a chance at Geno anyways! Barkley might fall to us around 18-19 so yes, we might end up with Barkley like you say! Sucks in my world! 75% of the NFL would trade to get the talent KC has but no one would take Cassel for a bag of peanuts!

If the Browns end up with the number one pick, I'm hoping Geno does blow up this season and offseason even more. That way people will be offering us the farm a la Washington last year. Trade down to 4-6 area and stockpile some picks. At 4-6 we have options, as hopefully there will be a WR, OL, CB, and a LB available that are all good pick ups. We need all of the above

If the Browns end up with the top pick they have to either trade down if someone is willing to give up a nice ransom for Geno or Barkley or take a LB or CB.  The LB's are trash and Haden needs another stud corner on the other side to prevent the secondary from getting shredded.  Jarvis Jones out of Georgia could be a great OLB for the Browns or Barkevious Mingo from LSU can be placed at OLB but may be better suited for a 3-4 OLB.  I'm not sure there are any cornerbacks worthy of a top 5 pick so if the Browns draft #1 they should look to move down a few spots and collect an extra 1st rounder or 2 and then take best player available from LB, CB, or WR.

Browns fan my whole life and they are terrible this year.  From top to bottom.  Richardson is their best offensive weapon but they will not commit to running the ball.  For some reason they only give him about 15 carries but let Weeden throw it 45 times a game. I know that the NFL is a QBs league but Weeden and the WRs are not good enough for this to be a pass heavy offense.  Weeden has a big arm but is so inaccurate.

At best 4 wins this year: Raiders/Chiefs/Colts and then they will pick up the 4th win against some team they have no business beating but who will struggle with injuries or already have their playoff spot wrapped up and be resting all of their starters.

Bucksfan's picture

It's the piss poor receiver play that's dooming their chances.  They dropped 2 sure-fire TDs against Baltimore last week, and Weeden, while at times not good, is finding a pretty nice groove with nothing to show for it.  Richardson is awesome.  The defense is solid.  It really isn't that bad.  But in the NFL, if you don't have good receivers, you aren't winning games.  Greg Little isn't even a receiver...he's a RB that converted over to WR.  And the penalties, my God!  The penalties by the linemen HAVE GOT TO STOP.

Fix the penalties, draft a great receiver next year, and that should do it.

2 wins but Romeo will beat the Browns - no way they beat hm

If I were GM, squirrel, I would trade you Weeden in a heart beat. And no way should the Browns take Geno - he would be another draft faiure and we have enough as it is.   look for them to do something smart, like trade for Carson Palmer or Charlie Batch - maybe bring in Carson' sl ittle brother

1) Weeden and Richardson are fine.

2) Schwartz is turning into quite the RT. The Browns need some guards though.

3) The WR corps sucks, getting Robert Woods would help. Or possibly signing a guy like Wes Welker in the offseason. This year's FA WR class is really good.

4) The Browns need more linebackers and another corner. Robertson and Jackson have been fine, but Maiva (sp?) and Fujita suck. Patterson/Skrine are terrible as well.

5) The D-line is awesome. Wynn, Hughes, Rubin, Parker, Rucker, and Sheard make for a fine unit, and once Taylor comes back, wow.

6) Give Shurmur one more year.

I'll take Weeden in KC. You have no idea how horrible Cassel is. I'd take Tebow and Sanchez for Cassel right now!

The Browns gave up their 2nd round pick this year to take Josh Gordon in the supplemental draft.  Also, of course there wouldn't be a franchise-type player the year the Browns are probably going to draft #1.  Anyhow,  I would trade down, see if they could get another first and get the 2nd round pick they gave up back and take the best DB/LB available.  Add a veteran WR and shoot for Marquise Lee next year.

I'm certainly not sold on Gordon, but the way I see it, since they gave up next year's #2 to get him, anything they get from him this year is a bonus.  If in the 2013 season he is not playing up to a 2nd round level, then its a bad pick.  But for now the Browns are playing with house money on him.  If they had anyone else who could stay healthy and catch the ball, he wouldn't look like such a wasted pick so far.

Clark Judge: Of course they will. They hung with the Bengals and Ravens. And they could ... maybe should ... beat Indianapolis in Week 7.

Well, yes Clark, and they also "hung with" the Eagles to the point they were leading the game until there was about a minute left. Of course, those three losses could have been expected. It was being caught flatfooted against the Bills that was really inexcusable.

The Browns haven't had a game yet where you watch them and go, "Wow, these two teams don't even look like they belong in the same league" (compare the Browns' competitive game in Baltimore, lost by the margin of an interception return, with the way the Bengals were crushed there). They have made some major strides in equalizing the talent gap. The slow starts have been a huge problem, though, and here you have to wonder about the head coach. It sure looks like Shurmur plays not to lose on offense until they fall behind and realize they're going to have to do something.

Assuming injuries don't become a massive issue and that the team doesn't up and quit on what's looking more and more like a lame duck coach, I think they're good enough to win their usual 5 games. A team this young ought to show noticeable improvement over the course of a season.

I'm pretty happy with what I've seen so far. They should've beaten the Eagles, and I think they would've beaten one or two other teams if Haden doesn't get suspended. I expect them to win a handful of games by the end of the season. And hopefully they get off to a faster start next year.

I'm still really angry about Haden's suspension; there's no doubt he cost the team. The secondary looked lost against the Bengals. I can't help but think the team could be 2-2 and we'd be talking about a totally different storyline throughout this season.

Lets hope Jimmy Haslam comes in and shit cans Shurmur, and the Eagles tank this year and Andy Reid gets fired so we can bring him in.  Winning in the NFL starts at the top, and lets face it the Browns have been poorly managed since '99.  I know the Factory of Sadness is always under construction, but I think new management and coaches need put in place.

Drafting Brandon Weeden in the first round tells you all you need to know.  We could have taken David DeCastro.... instead we take a QB than will be out of the league in 7-8 years, and DeCastro will be in Pittsburgh kicking our asses for over a decade.  As for wasting a 2nd round pick on Josh Gordon..... I dont want to clog up this thread.  It's just stupid. 1st and 2nd rounders need to be contributors right away.  Gordon is a project.

As for Browns wins, I say they win 1-2 games this year, prob not enough to land the guy they should draft. lol  Why couldn't we just lose them all last year and get a damn QB for once???

Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.

Do you think trading the 1st pick in the draft to get two late 1st round picks to possibly get Woods and Mantei Taio(sp?) is possible..and smart?
