I didn't always agree with him but, the guy was very entertaining and provided a very unique insight into the game we all love.
One thing he said that makes me smile to this day. He was on a radio show and they were talking about music. The host asks, "Hey Beano what's your favorite band?"
He replied "Ohio State".
:)
RIP good sir!

RIP Beano...seems like sports announcing and analysis is becoming more stale as these guys start to retire and pass away....another sad day for the sport.
Sad to hear. RIP
RIP Beano
Love Beano Cook. The guy was so funny and could talk football past & present. He will be missed.
I never knew why he was called 'Beano' and I guess his family moved from Boston to Pittsburgh and his neighbors said, "Oh, you're from Boston, like the beans," and they started calling him 'Beano' and it stuck.
For all his faults (hello, Ron Powlus Heismans), Beano was an original. He rarely succumbed to the laziness of throwing out cliches at every chance like so many CFB commentators do these days. RIP, Beano.
Because we couldn't go for three.
I always liked Beano too, although I remember him saying in the lead up to the 2007 national championship game against Florida that Ohio State was the "most overrated team" making an appearance in the national championship game "in the last 25 years." Obviously we got spanked, but most overrated in the last 25 years? I thought that was a bit dramatic.
In fact, he called OSU and some of its players (i.e. Pryor) overrated through the years. Never too obnoxious when he'd speak out, however. Never like Mark May. Still a good sports media personality.
Best quote I ever heard from him was: "Everything was better in the 60s, except medicine, air conditioning, and segregation."
