If running QB's like Braxton and Denard were only slightly below average in going thru their progressions and throwing the ball the offenses would be amazing. Hope Braxton develops as a passer over the off season.

Braxton sure doesn't look like himself. I know it's the first quarter, but WTF?

I'll never understand why they don't run more draws on 3 and 3/4. Even if he only picks up 2-3 yards, at least you're in short conversion range for Hyde.
all i'm gonna say is we need to get braxton out of the pocket, stretch the field. It seems like were so clogged up in the middle
That's why I want Drew Barker. He can run and throw the ball well.
This looks too much like last year...run on obvious downs then the QB doesn't have time or won't pull the trigger on passing downs. Hate it!

3rd and goal with 38 seconds til the half. Play action pass to the tight end?

Spielman was right on the money that when he doesn't feel comfortable in the pocket, Braxton starts burrying his head. He NEEDS to fight through it and keep his eyes down the field. Love that end to the half though, a jab to the gut and it's 7-7! Anyone's game next half.
Ya he's definitely out of sorts with the throwing -- hopefully Urban & Herman can get him sorted out for the 2nd half...
IRT the thread topic, though: Braxton's only a Sophmore, learning a new Offense, working w/a new QB coach/OC. We have to give him time, his accuracy has improved since last year (imo)--I bet it'll continue to get better.
I love you Stoneburner!
Go Bucks!
Miller has made gigantic strides as a passer from last season to this season, plus he's just a sophomore. If you think he should never have an off day throwing, it's just not very realistic.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
He was not himself in the 1st half.
Although I'm worried about Braxton's throwing, I also remember that Troy Smith didn't really start to become a throwing quarterback until his junior year.
So pretty much I'm willing to wait and see with Braxton.

True Sophmore with a new system
~Because we couldn't go for three~
Matthew makes a good point - at some point the light bulb just goes off and viola - and yet Brax is already a great overall player! Did you notice that he did step out of bounds and slid tonight? Still learning!
Remember when being Quarterback meant you could throw acurately?? LMAO
Yes there are two Buckeyes in Ann arbor on this site!
I think Braxton is accurate, but he needs to work on touch. Way too many balls were drilled when touch would have served him better.
He was pretty timid, excited today. He did what he had to so they could win. 9-0 and the defense looked pretty good today.
His slant route to spencer was great, and his throw to stoney was good. He makes great throws sometimes but is just so inconsistant
Yeah, you cant say he has an off day, because it is every day he has those throws. Just like our defense and big plays, this is a pattern developing.
Even my wife asked me why Braxton always misses his throws. He is only a soph, but I dont know if we will see major improvement until next year.
But honestly, he had great improvement since last year, so why not expect it next year.
O-line got handled a bit in the first half, and Braxton didn't step into his throws and kept looking deep instead of taking his checkdowns or running. A bit of a different story in the second half especially with the O-line. The throw to Stoneburner was money as well as a couple other big first downs. He really only needs to complete a couple passes per drive if the running game is humming. We just struggle with throwing when behind the chains like all teams. I would like to see a few more 1st down throws, not necessarily deep shots but screens and the sprint out floods that we have had success with.
But, awesome win! When they blocked the punt I said "wow, that might have cost us this game" knowing it was far from over but lamenting those types of plays that have happened all year. But the defense played their first complete game imo including a defensive score to ignite the team. Great team win.
@d5k
yep, agree with your first paragraph, especially that he doesnt have to hit every throw, just a COUPLE to be effective.
Braxton is a cross between Barry Sanders and Joe Bauserman!
Sathey he has had games where he was efficient throwing the football. The worst games throwing have been when teams have collapsed the pocket with a solid D-line and blitzed him. He still holds the ball too long sometimes and could take off running a few times. But he is still a great player when you look at the total package because of the Barry Sanders-ishness. Bauserman part is obviously an exaggeration. He has had a lot of big plays that have won us games with his arm (think MSU bomb to Devin Smith for the clearest example). He just isn't great at the easier throws when under duress. He is usually better when he breaks the pocket by design rather than scrambling for his life, as should be expected.
Btw, 1500 passing and 1000 rushing now through 9 games.
Also Braxton quote:
Could be why. One of my friends who roots for the Evil Empire says that Denard suffers from that a lot in games and he plays poorly as a result.
Class of 2010.
I know if's and buts don't count, BUT if Braxton hit's that past to Philly early on, I have a feeling his passing stats would of been really impressive. I think he looks a lot better as a passer this year than last, and he actually throws a good ball most of the time. Last year he never threw spirals.
To be fair, he may over/under throw a lot... but he doesn't throw a ton of interceptions.
So inconsistent? Perhaps, but at least he isn't anywhere as turnover happy as denard or other QBs.
He looked off. Once they got rollin, he looked like himself.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
I really think it had to do with the hit from last week. He had many opportunities to run the ball early and didn't. He looked much better the 2nd half.
Yeah, if he would of taken what they were giving him in the first half he may have ended up close to 200 yards. There were a couple times where he had a lot of green infront of him.
Braxton took a little while to get back in the groove. I'm sure he was a little nervous of contact early, as he undoubtedly took very little in practice all week. You can tell that the staff is coaching him to contact as much as possible. Our slow start is consistent with our play all season, but as usual he came back to form after the half. Wow, did he put on a juke on his td run or what? Nice touch on the Stoneburner pass...
