Not that it really matters right now, but where do you guys see braxton in the heisman race after this week? With Geno Smith and West Virginia losing, I could see him maybe hopping into 1st.

Not first, but definitely closed the gap a bit
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
I think he's still clearly behind Geno
Agree with Triv.
Before this weekend it was 95% Geno's, 5% Braxtons. Now it's more like 75% 25% IMO. Still Geno's to lose
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
They just asked Mark May where he would put him. And of course he had the smart a$$ remark of "ehhh...maybe top 10." Holtz said top 3 with Tao and Klein
Braxton's completion % has to improve the rest of the year while still dominating running and WVU has to continue to lose games for brax to have a chane
Urban Culture, I don't know that Miller's passing has to get a whole lot better. There's precedent for a quarterback winning the Heisman on "leadership" grounds--Charlie Ward and Eric Crouch for sure, and to some extent Troy Smith and Tim Tebow fit into this category. But the key is that for a QB to win without awesome stats or without being considered a surefire pro prospect, his team almost has to be #1 or in the title picture (Tebow was the exception).
Smith is still the leader, but today's game puts pressure on him to have a strong game against Kansas State and/or Oklahoma.

He was 2 and will stay 2. I think Geno isn't a unanamous #1 anymore and Braxton steals some first place votes.
Regardless of how controversial Notre Dame's win was today, I think Te'o really should start getting some Heisman 1st place votes. The man is just a monster on the field.
Has there ever been a 1000 yard passer and 1000 yard rusher at Ohio State who played Qb? I would think the closest to that would be Cornelius Green?
Obviously Braxton hasn't done it yet but he's REALLY close at 1271 passing and 912 rushing. I think if he makes it to 2000 passing and 2000 rushing he'll be only the second player to ever do so? Vince Young I believe?
I can't see how Braxton makes it to 2000 yards rushing with no B1G title game and no bowl. But even 1500 yards rushing (which is doable) would be unusual territory for a QB.

After today's games:
G. Smith - 2271 yds passing, 25 TDs, 0 INT, 71 yrds rushing, 1 rushing TD
B. Miller - 1271 yrds passing, 11 TDs, 4 INT, 912 yrds rushing, 9 rushing TDs
I would have to say the Smith is still #1.
Total Yards: 2342 to 2183
Total TDs: 26 to 21
Team Record: 5-1 to 7-0
Getting closer, though.
Well if Devin Smith didn't drop two potential TDs, he might be closer.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
I would actually have Braxton as the leader assuming Ohio State finishes undefeated or Braxton plays incredibly in a loss (assuming there is only one loss). FWIW, Dennis Dodd also tweeted that he has Braxton as the leader.
Braxton had to of closed the gap but I agree Geno will still be on top and probably still by a significant margin. Devin Smith certainly cost Miller much bigger passing stats but another 200+ yards passing and 100+ rushing game has to impress voters. The way things are going for the Buckeyes as long as Braxton stays healthy he will have a seat secured in NYC for the Heisman ceremony.
Dennis Dodd is a jerk! I can't stand that guy. He's worse that Mark May!
I just don't see how Braxton could be one or two. We have not played a good team yet.
Maybe next year.. He has plenty of time to grow and be an even bigger threat than he is now..let smith have it this year and Braxton can ride high with Archie and take the next 2..
@TOSUMAN We havent played a good team yet? MSU has a pretty damn good defense. And even though Nebraska's defense isnt up to par with years past, they are also pretty good. Braxton has tore up every defense this season. I do agree that he most likely wont win it this year, but I think he will definitely be in New York.
If you want a Heisman moment, just look at that run against Nebraska when they were down 17-7.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
He might still have to make a huge play that decides THE GAME
It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog
If Geno has couple more duds like yesterday and Braxton does nothing but what he's done so far, he has a shot. What could be the ultimate difference is who creates that Heisman moment. Say Braxton continues to be consistent, leading the Buckeyes to an undefeated mark heading into the Game. Then, he lights up Michigan (again) and/or directs a game winning drive. The Heisman will be his. Similarly, Smith will have to have a moment of his own without faltering like he did in Lubbock.
Because we couldn't go for three.
Look at Smith's schedule. If he keeps a somewhat similar pace against those teams its over. Braxton has to actually improve his stats and go undefeated. But it will be cool to see him in New York if he keeps it up.
While that may be true, Smith cost himself a lot of votes yesterday. If he doesn't do anything aside from put up video game numbers, he's in danger of only being remembered for losing to TTU. He needs a Heisman moment to put it away. Braxton doesn't have the numbers, but he has plenty of Heisman moments. However, no one's watching. He needs a big moment in The Game to have a shot. Still, we'll see him in New York.
Because we couldn't go for three.
What do you mean, "not that it matters?" The Heisman is one of the only things that matters to Ohio State this year. It'd be one of the few saving graces for a team if they happen to go undefeated in a year when the B1G is at its worst, no bowl, only a division championship to show for it.
Geno Smith went 29/55 and only 1 TD. Their toughest games lie ahead of them with Kansas State, TCU, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma.
It might be too early to tell, but Braxton Miller is easily the best player in college football. He's one of the best players that's ever played at Ohio State!
Braxton most likely won't win the heisman politics and all. But him just getting an invite atleast for me would be enough recognition ..
"GIMMIE THAT BEAT FOOL!!! IT A FULL TIME JACK MOVE" Ice Cube jack for beats..
@BUCKSFAN When I said that it doesnt matter I was implying that 7 weeks into the season we shouldnt worry about it too much. Also we shouldnt be thinking about it after giving up 49 to Indiana.
I think this is Smith's to lose, however I definitely think he gained a little ground yesterday. I do agree with what BUCKEYEVSTHEWORLD said, that if Devin Smith hadn't dropped those 2 easy TD passes we might be saying something different.
Braxton should be a top 3 finalist this year, he should end the season with around 2000 passing and about 18 TDs and another 1300-1400 rushing and 15 or so TDs. Pretty good #s if you ask me, however Retard Robinson soph. season he put up 2500 passing 18 TDs and another 1700 rushing and 16 TDs and he wasn't even a finalist...
I wouldn't sleep on Manziel from A&M either as a RS Freshman... I know he won't get too much consideration but he should. He's got over 1700 passing 14 tds and another 600 rushing and 10 Tds.
No Vince Young never ran for 2000... He had just over 2000 rushing for his career though. 1000 yards in back to back seasons. I think Denard set the record for QB rushing (maybe) his soph season when he ran for 1700
I can see him being second if the Buckeyes win out. It's exciting just having a player in the race. Go Braxton!!
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
I agree that Geno is still the leader but a couple more losses for Geno and Braxton continues to do what hes been doing he will close the gap considerably
O H I O is the Buckeye State
The 2010 Denard-led TTUN team was 7-6 when he put up those crazy stats. If he has Denard-like numbers and the Buckeyes have 1 or 2 losses, Braxton is almost certainly a Heisman finalist.
Braxton is a solid #2 and Geno probaly loses at least one more to Oklahoma. He's in the catbird seat if he stays healthy.
DEB II
Denard didn't win the year he put up crazy numbers much bigger than it looks Braxton will accomplish, but his team also started losing. If Geno's team starts tanking and Braxton takes his team through without a lose, Geno can lose his way out of the Heisman race without having bad games... he just has to lose.
Hopefully TTU made a blueprint for other teams on how to shut dow Geno Smith. Braxton has just been consistently awesome and hopefully he can keep it that way. Right now he is the 6th leading rusher in college football. The only other player I see challenging Braxton and Geno right now is Collin Klein. His stats arent quite as good but he is leading Kansas State to an undefeated season.
He's not going to win it this year, but he'll be in New York if you ask me. I thought he'd amass over 40 TD's which would make him a lock to get to NY. Hyde's emergence has taken some of Braxton's TD's, also Guiton coming in and making the little shovel pass TD toss would of probably been a TD for Braxton as well. I doubt he' gets up to 40 total TD's now. I do think he'll get the 1500 yards. He has 5 games to get 600 yards, I don't see that being an impossible task at all. Especially, with Illinois still on the schedule, he my get 200 that game alone. 2000 passing 1500 rushing and 35 total TDs will put him in the conversation for sure and will definitely buy him a ticket to New York.
Johnny Manziel is having an incredible season for Texas A&M. Almost 400 yards of total offense per game (110 rushing/290 passing) and 24 total TD's. He will start to get some love if TAMU keeps winning. They have LSU in College Station next week. A chance for him to really make waves.
vacuuming sucks
Manziel has been tremendous, but against the one real defense on the A&M schedule so far (Florida), he was pretty mortal--granted it was his very first game. LSU figures to be a real test for him.

Geno's numbers and publicity will be hard to overcome. Baylor lost like 3 games last year, and RG3 still won. He just needs to torch Oklahoma or Kansas State in primetime and keep them in the mix for the Big 12 title and he is in.
The Texas A&M QB Manziel is a really good player as Maestro alluded to. He could get into the mix as he gets into some tougher games. The key for all these guys, Braxton included, is to stay healthy. Many tough games for all these teams and more injuries will happen. Think Geno could be brought back down to earth quickly. It's anyones heisman at this point.
Yah the Heisman moment is key. Geno has some tuough games ahead with K state and Oklahoma. Those two play decent defense and if they can follow T Tech's blueprint they can maybe make Geno look pedestrian. As far as Brax the kid is probably going to finish out at 2 or 3. His moment will probably be in THE GAME. I think us being on probation might hurt him a little to, but we will see.
p.s. manziel is a beast.
Braxton cant afford OSU to lose a game if the heisman is going to be his... Geno faces a couple of tough teams down the stretch here and I think if B Miller can remain consistent and OSU can go undefeated he has a serious, serious chance to win the Heisman. Need KSU to lose as well at some point.
Doesn't matter..Baylor lost games with RG3, yet he won it becaue he put up unreal #'s.
Braxton's numbers are great, yes..but nothing that we didnt see from Denard the last couple of years.

I posted this in the BuckShot.. I'll post it here too:
a lot of guys are pointing to ridiculous numbers, but if what happens at TTU is any indicator, the overall numbers won't be as ridiculous.... WVU still has to play Kansas St, TCU, Oklahoma, and @ Iowa St. That is the number 31, 15, 14, and 33 defenses in the country. Trust me, he will not put up the areana league numbers in all of these (though he will get a chance for a final impression by beating the crap out of Kansas). I think WVU looses at least 2 and probably 3 of those cause their defense is just so damn bad. Another repeat or two of TTU and it would allow someone else (like Braxton) to slide into that top slot.
Cause I couldn't go for three
actually jason it is quite diff from denard... brax takes care of the ball a lot better than denard
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
Big friggin deal..look at these stats: Insane #'s..yet no heisman.

One thing to remember about the Heisman is that the winning "criteria" for stats and wins/losses and etc. can vary from year to year and it's comparative to what everyone else is doing in college football. For example, Mark Ingram won it in 2009 with similar stats to what Trent Richardson had in 2011, yet Richardson didn't win. Igram's play was thought of as the 'best' of the year compared to the rest of CFB, while Richardson's were enough to get him to New York, but not enough to win.
Yes, we've seen Denard put up big numbers the last several years, but for this year, Braxton's numbers are better (thus far). That's all that matters.
@buckeyejason
Michigan was also losing lots of games in Denard's best and most worthy season. They lost 6 games that year. He was not worthy last year. God help us if they start giving the Heisman out to a guy who throws 15 picks to 20 TDs. Brax is on pace to have a similar statistical season to that sophomore season (Denard will have had an extra 13th game on Brax's final statline for the season), sans the turnovers, on a potentially undefeated team. He's also had the highlight reel plays and clutch plays to boot.
Frankly, all that matters to me is if we beat Michigan and shove Detards stupid spoon down his throat when he starts that eating motion!

Top 5, Braxton made some ground but also lost some in the pack behind him. Not sure how anyone puts Klein above Braxton in the voting...
I think Klein wins it if they go undefeated and WV falls off a bit.

They face off this week!
As many have said, its Geno's to lose. If last weekend's loss is the start of a trend, then I think Braxton has a real shot. If however, it was just a bump in the road, Geno takes it.
