Penn prolly got tired of getting there butts wooped.
Replacing Ohio w/ Maryland is real pathetic IMO. Maryland dosnt have much talent. Yes they have a few elite guys every year, but they dont have the talent that Ohio does & never will.
It's also interesting to note that Penn apparently had the authority to make this decision on their own. Rhode Island would probably be a more equal opponent.
Well we've won four years in a row and with the North/South game, we didn't really need it. Early enrollment is killing the talent in HS All-Star games anyway. More talent for the N/S game at Ohio Stadium!
Edit, should have cited Tony Gerdeman on this subliminal paraphrase, I worded it strangely familiarly.
Urbz, I sorta see your point. To me, it's one less game where players can get hurt before enrolling in college. Still, it's kinda sad for those Ohio players who looked forward to this game.
as a citizen of Pennsylvania --- this is stupid...wtf! Everybody looks forward to this game every year. Why wouldn't you want to play against the best --- high-level competition is what makes the game great. PA high school football isn't what it used to be, but it's on the rise. Maryland football is not even in the same breath as Ohio Football. I still think Ohio is right up there with Florida & Texas as far as the best high school football in states.
Sure Buck4Life, but at some point they were willing to break tradition prior. I'm just saying that it hasn't ALWAYS been Ohio v Penn as a reference point for discussion.
@Urbzrenewal....this sounds like something I heard on Twitter....

This stinks! I live 20 minutes away from Hershey and loved going over for the game. It is amazing how much talent there is in Ohio HS football. To be able to field three teams (N/S game and Big 33) shows the depth. The Big 33 is the major all star game in PA. I can see why they wanted MD!
Just an FYI, both states have gone through periods where one dominates the other. I believe the all time record is only one game apart. So while I don't get the reasoning behing the change, it's certainly is not because they can't beat Ohio.
I talked to a member of the Big 33 last night and they made the change because they felt that more people would drive up from MD to the game than OH. (Hershey is only around 1 1/2 hrs from Baltimore. This is also why there is an over abundance of Ravens fans here.....but I digress)
They are also still disappointed that Ohio does not send all of their BEST players.
I am not a fan of football all star games anyway. The pro bowl has always been and will always continue to be garbage. What I did enjoy, however, were the skill competitions they used to have that weekend. Who can run the fasted, throw the farthest, eat the most hot dogs etc. I would much rather them do things of that nature and even come up with some other unique events like tug of war than watch a diluted defenseless football game with no cohesive plan.
Dave Trimbur, the executive director of the Big 33 game. Although nothing was shared with the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association in a letter addressing the split last week, that’s what Trimbur cited as the difference-maker
“Talking to Maryland, we just saw their stock rising in terms of talent,” he said to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “The proximity to Hershey was part of the determining factor, too. But to be honest, there is some pretty good talent coming out of Maryland now compared to years ago.”
A bit late but I just realized this: @SJ52, a majority of what I post originates in the Twittersphere, since I follow 400 some college football analysts/writers/producers (many of which follow me back for Buckeye/Block "O" stuff.
Anyway, I typically cite guys when I word things similarly/quote them, I guess I just passively wrote nearly precisely what he wrote. Not intended of course, I'm all about giving credit for anything, which is why you'll find that my post history is littered with "per _____, this happened". I guess it was just nearly subliminal. My bad, I edited to include a paraphrase to Tony Gerdeman, one of the best writers out there.
And to be on topic, Maryland's talent has improved and the 2014 class is pretty decent (especially the Baltimore and DC bordering areas), but not on the level of Ohio high school football.
Maryland football is overrated. The media in DC praises the hell out of Maryland HS football in comparison to NoVA HS Football. It's like comparing the Big Ten and the SEC. As long as the matchups aren't fair, they're going to act high and mighty and everyone will love them. Maryland should care about doing a game with Virginia instead, not Pennsylvania.
I'm wondering if part of the reason is we've won the last 4 years. Last year in specific I'm pretty sure they were heavy favorites to win and we still won.
Is this for real? That seems pretty stupid...

Well, I guess Pennsylvania needed to find a state they could actually beat.

But whats the real reason for this?
#Buckeyes
They have switched often, not the first time.
Maryland had a few years run.

Yes STEENSN but on that list it has been Ohio vs. Penn since 1993, the longest stretch by a long shot on that list... Tradition!

Buckeye in PA purgatory
Does anybody know if Under Armor in any way involved in this decision?
If they want easy wins they could try that place north of us.
Thats a big game tho, hope they dont change it.
O H I O is the Buckeye State
I hope it stays as well. Gives the school that wins bragging rights. (players, coaches, fans) It's a fun game.

From the Dayton daily news
I really hope Timbur isn't trying to say Maryland has better talent than Ohio. That'd just be dumb.
