Am I the only one concerned about Basil's leg strength? He seems to be able to kick 40+ yard field goals pretty well, but I rarely have seen him kick the ball off out of the end zone. I suppose I am nit picking a bit, but when OSU is playing a team like Indiana tonight who is excellent returning kicks, it would be nice to kick it out of the end zone and not give up 63 yard returns.
It is intentional. The coaching staff made the decision to try to kick it short of the end zone because the coverage is good enough to tackle the retuner before he hits the 25 (where toucbacks go).
If you watch, you'll see that on most plays we get them between the 15 and the 20.
Basil's leg is fine. It is a strategy decision.
It's 100% on purpose.
He's got a good leg, but he's crap as a FG kicker. He missed a 35 yarder. WTF?
Meyer loves where Basil puts it (right on the goal line), if he wanted him to put it through the back of the endzone he'd have no problem with it.
Really? Okay, I guess his leg is fine then. Huh...
A kicker misses a a field goal here and there, no one is exactly perfect. In the spring game Basil was lighting it up from 50-55 yards 3-4 times in a row.
Love the strategy when the team is starting on the 15 yd line every time. 1/6 times someone returns a big one on us...then you hate it. Or you could just do 25 yard line every time. idk which one id like
