Article about OSU as BCS Outsiders/Busters/Anti-hero this year

I don't find a lot of interesting articles about OSU football in the Wall Street Journal, but when I do (and hey, it's not E*PN) I thought it would be worth sharing. If I'm putting this in the wrong place (forum vs. blog post) please feel free to weigh in with some constructive criticism - I'm a rookie at this. And I'm finally allowing myself to hope that the Bucks can actually go 12 - 0 this year. I had picked us at 9 - 3 or 10 - 2. Feels like it's gonna be a wild year! Let me know what you guys & gals think - do you kinda like the anti-hero slant of the article?

All the more impressive -- Everson, the author of the article is a UM grad.

Whoa. I have now broken my lifelong vow of never saying anything nice about a UM grad (M Man excepted). I feel cheap.

(Actually, Jason, I'm even more impressed by the article, now that I know.)

Great post! Everson's wholly right about the AP's willingness to stick it to the BCS.

I thought dropping Ohio State four positions in the AP poll after the Cal game was highly reactionary - if not downright punitive. Dropping the Bucks one poll position would have been reasonable. They'd be ranked fifth, now.

It may involve lots of moving parts. But, Ohio State winning the 2012 AP National Championship is not impossible.

Thats what happens when you read quality journalism instead of most of the shit that gets put out by espn and other sports sites. Can't even tell any biases the author might have.

Yep; the Journal's sports writing has a strong Michigan lean.  Darren Everson is a Michigan grad (BA English '96) and was a Michigan Daily sports editor.  The Journal has a staff of about 20 doing sports now, and my guess is that there are at least a couple of other Michigan grads...

I've been rooting for the 2012 Buckeyes all season; so far they've done nothing but good things for us.

Since were on the subject of ttun and winning the ap national championship, we need to win out(obviously) and it would really help if ttun would look really really good in the rest of their games, they just reentered the top 25, maybe making it all the way to top 15 and coming to columbus and getting smoked. It is without a doubt a long shot but it is not impossible at all. ive brought up the possibility of going 12-0 all season, and it seems so many on this site were very quick to dismiss it and call it ridiculous. im still not saying its certain, or even likely. but anyone who thinks this team doesnt have a decent shot at it now is one hell of a pessimist. IF this team plays to its potential and not to the talent of their opponent(big if) there is no reason that they wont be 10-0 heading to madison. While playing in madison is always tough no matter the state of the badgers, they play right to the buckeyes strength. offense will run it straight at us all day long(see how that worked out for sparty) and they have NOTHING on defense that will even slow down braxton. so barring 3+ turnovers its hard to see that one not going the good guys way. Then when ttun comes to town obviously the rivalry and emotion will play a big part. on offense i can see Denard gashing this defense for some big gains, and once again their defense may be formidable enough to not give up 60, but at that point in the season this offense will be humming and keeping braxton and co. under 30 will be close to impossible. So overall i for one and feeling pretty confident about the rest of the schedule

Well i like college and i like football...and im gunna keep doin em both cause they make me feel good!!!

@M Man - Thank you for that link to the article about the WSJ sports section. I have only casually looked at their sports "page" but after the OSU article, and this article, I think I'll make a concerted effort to follow it more closely. I get real tired of a lot of the drivel on the web being churned out about sports. That's part of why I love 11W.
