Like Fickell will be addressing OSU media momentarily. You'll want to stick with us for it.
I didn't know if Fickell usually talks to the media or if this is a special occassion. The last sentence makes me think the latter, but I really have no idea. Perhaps I'm just paranoid from all of the people calling for his job.

Oh boy.
They always make players and coaches available, I think this one just deserves comment because of the defensive struggles and all the fans calling for him to be fired.
Public apology for the defenseive play on Saturday?
I really hope this is just a normal conference. I'm not sure if I'm in the minority or the silent majority, but I think Fickell is a good DC who right now doesn't possess the talent that he needs for the type of defense we have come to expect here at OSU.
Maybe it's in response to pizzagate.
One thing is for sure, Fickell is not good with the media. He gets defensive, doesn't really answer questions, talks in circles, etc.
It is the weekly Monday press conference. He is one of the coaches made available this week. Nothing special other than the fact that Meyer may want him to feel a little bit of heat.
It's the weekly conference.
That said, Fickell has shown to be a piss poor play caller for the entirety of the time he's had that ability. He needs play calling abilities taken from him and I wish that was going to be the case. To say we don't have the talent to do better than we are is asinine considering the NFL talent we have on defense. We may not have the talent to be the silver bullets of old, but he's the reason it's as bad as it is.
@ Bukyze or anyone really: I've been w/o internet access, and I've heard/read some pizza guy thing on several occasions. Could you explain what it's all about?
Before anyone jumps on me for not going back and looking-I just got back from my honeymoon-cut me some slack lol.

Let's not forget though, Fickell's hands are a little bit tied with play calls when Boren is in the game. It all but takes away the possibilities for creative blitz and coverage packages, until he gets his feet wet for a bit.
I agree I.8, I'm also one of the people who believes our defense is really understocked on talent in the second level right now, and also decimated by injuries. I think the talent we need is in both the freshman class and the class coming in next year.
Via Various sources on Twitter: Looks like Fickell will not be addressing the media.
He just skipped out on the media... He will not be speaking today.
What the heck is going on at WHAC?!
Why is Fickell being Fickle?
Fickell is NOW meeting with the media...
Bucks1.8: Excuses are like what???? So you're telling me that bc Boren being in they couldn't send him up the middle or on an outside blitz. Or throw a CB blitz or Safety blitz at IU...??? They blitzed 3 times the whole game. Common mannn...you know I mean no harm btw 1.8 but I can't make anymore excuses for this defense and the coaches. Time to see what Withers can do at Head Def. Coor. IMHO...we've seen Fickel and it hasn't been too great. I personally think that's why Meyer gave him the title he did (Asst. HC as well as Asst. Def. Coor...just saying something to think about rather than all the injury bug stuff and other excuses...personally I want to see production on defense. It's been a lack there of IMO).

Sweat and Bellamy were starters last year but everyone else returned this year. With the added year of experience one would have thought there would be an improved from last year.
I'm with BUCKEYE76BHOP......people who don't perform always have excuses.
In business, you either perform as expected or suffer the consequences. I like Luke for his loyality to the BUCKS but let's face it.....the defense is under performing. I don't believe you can do anything this far into the season but the DC job will have to be evaluated when the season ends.
I would not like to be in Luke's shoes at season's end with nothing to say but "yeah but" to use as the reason why the defense didn't measure up.

Still amazes me that Curtis Grant doesn't know/understand the defense yet (according to UM and Fickell), but Boren could learn it in less than a week? Makes no sense. Unless Boren had already learned it by being around it for several years, but that's stretching logic for me. Gotta think it's less understanding of the defense on Grant's part, and more UM and Fickell feeling Grant isn't giving the effort they want to see.
I wonder if it had to do with what Herbstreit referred to on his show today on the Fan. Apparently a media member on an "ESPN affiliate" tweeted something about wishing Desmond Howard would die and Herbie was totally pissed. What I got out of it was that it was someone from the Fan.
Anybody know who or what was said?
Edit: Guess it wasn't

The defense is absolutely underperforming but it is no reason to go calling for Fickell's head if you ask me. Meyer's teams have been littered with let down/close call performances and these teams are going to be no different.
Fickell and the defense need to step up, no excuses. His job doesn't get any easier and the kids don't play with anymore confidence when the fanbase goes nuts calling for his head because we won a football game and are 7-0. I mean crap, Indiana's offense is a top 25 offense but we have to ignore that because it's Indiana ofcourse.
Coaches and players need to be accountable, but the fan base should also be supportive.
The way some fans make it sound, they were probably calling for Tressel's head in 02 going into the Miami game.
