Ohio State spokesperson Jerry Emig just said he can neither confirm nor deny the Buckeyes will wear Nike Pro combat jerseys against Michigan.
I made this prediction a few weeks ago: tOSU will do what Georgia did a few years ago and let the jerseys be a suprise. They may even warm up in their normal ones also. Busting out the Pro Combat's will get the crowd AND the players even more hyped. If they were not gonna let them be a suprise, I feel like they would have already come out and showed them to us. (The original plan was to unveil them in September)
Where is Triv? He said he knows a guy (or two) on the team and said they will be wearing them for the Michigan game but the team hasn't even seen them yet.
I just wish they'd wear the normal helmets. Seeing all those buckeye leafs makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

NICE!!! I'm hoping for a Black-out theme on the night of the Michigan game. Blacked-out OSU jerseys, Detard's memory of the game to be blacked-out from a blind-side sack from John Simon, and myself to be blacked out from consuming too many celebratory Great Lakes Christmas Ales.
That sounds like a really cool idea. I like how they are doing it this year. I think that "warm up with regular unis" would be pretty sweet too
Pretty sure the Pro Combats are going to pay homage to the 2002 national championship team, seeing that it is the 10th anniversary, we are celebrating the team pre-game, and every pro combat for us to date have recognized a previously great buckeye team

OSU07: that would be awesome, and would make the most sense. However, for those jerseys to have any shot at being well received, Nike could not take any creative licenses with the design. Those jerseys are still obviously pretty fresh in people's minds.

I agree pretty much, and that is just my hunch based on the past not any solid knowledge. However, I kind of think that they really will be an ode to the 2002 team with a pro-combat flair. Newer material, maybe accentuate the gray stripe, wider pants stripes, a neat shadow stitched in the jersey of a desert or crystal ball etc...
Nothing NEW necessarily, just a flaired up version of the 2002 team.
We'll see. I'd be fine with our jerseys or I'd be perfectly fine with them dusting off the 02 jerseys as well. Who knows?

In a year that we have no possible way to win the crystal football?? No way. I like where your head is at, but that should be reserved for a couple years down the road when it is a realistic goal.

I wonder how much marketing has to do with the "surprise". Given that there will be no bowl game this year, there will more than likely be a drop in OSU gear sales for the holiday season. By holding the jersey to the end of the season, it might build up the hype? Push some sales?

I am mixed on what I would like to see them wear. I do like the idea of a tribute to the 2002 team. However, I also think that the tribute to past unis is something that works best with really old styles. The 2002 jersey is relatively new in comparison with say the 1942 jerseys. If we went with something new, I'd be good with that. I would like to see a version of a black jersey.
Will Nike do a matte grey helmet and keep the traditional Buckeye stickers? The matte seems to be very popular. I could also see the chrome helmet with a large "faded" Buckeye leaf on one side and the players Buckeye stickers on the other.
Oh well... gues we'll just have to wait and see.

@20sider: if anything, with the momentum that this season has/is generating heading into 2013, I would argue that there will be a negligble (if any) drop in OSU merchandise sales.

As far as merchandise sales for OSU stuff slipping, I don't see it. The only thing I've noticed up here in NW Ohio is how fast the Michigan hat and t-shirt wearing numbskulls have seemed to crawl back under their rock, after the losses to Alabama and Notre Dame.

Conrad's and the like better have a shit ton of the pro combats in stock for the crush of people wanting to gobble them up right after the game.
The whole point is to sell more Nike gear, so I think they will be revealed the week before the Michigan game and will be in stores in advance of the game. That's been the retail pattern in past years (even though the design was made public long before the gear was available for purchase).
I feel that it doesnt matter when they let it out. They know they are going to make their profit either way because it's Ohio State and we have the biggest fanbase in the nation. Maybe I'm just too pumped at the thought of them letting them be a suprise. But I think a black out in The Shoe would be awesome.
One of these years Nike's going to troll everyone and have a team show up in Loincloth...
Or they could pull a "Batman and Robin", and make jerseys with clearly defined nipples on them.
@GeorgiaBuckeye, I really like your idea. I think the helmet needs to be the color you have it only matte with a small scarlet block "O" on the helmet and the socks should be scarlet.

My Ideal pro-combat uni:
HELMET: The same helmet we always wear, but chrome. With helmet stickers provided by Nike.
JERSEY: Black, with silver numbers/names with a scarlet outline.
PANTS: Dark gray, but clearly distinguisable from the black jersey. With Scarlet design of any sort that looks ok, hard to describe what's I'd go for.
SOCKS: Gray, with Scarlet stripes
SHOES: Black & scarlet
It's 5 o'clock somewhere, & Michigan still sucks
