Alex- You just tweeted that its inevitable that tOSU loses a game this year. Just wondering who you think that's gonna be against? I dont really see it. Toughest games we have left are PSU, Wisconsin, and TSUN. I think we match up well with all 3 of those teams. The only one that scares me the littliest bit would be PSU as a trap game. Does anyone else think that it's "inevitable?"

I agree with him in the sense that you can't play the sort of defense we've been playing, and keep expecting our offense to always bail us out. Odds would also say that if you flirt too long with 5-10 point wins or allow for comebacks eventually there will be a game where luck doesn't swing your way.
I don't think the game tonight was as close as the score makes it seem (our D seemed to stop playing midway through the 4th quarter, we began to get a lot of backups subbed in). But a game like that against a PSU or Mich doesn't always go your way.
If Indiana can score 49 on us, so can TSUN.
Edit: And honestly after that performance, I don't think any game besides Illinois is a gimme. I don't really understand why everyone is assuming Wisconsin can't beat us.
It's the spread offense that is exposing our defense. That's the biggest issue. Of course I didn't even dream we might have a shot at being undefeated this year.
Agree with VHX, we can't stop spread offenses, Michigan game will probably be a tough one for our defense. Plus Wisonsin, Penn st and Purdue have always just given us fits recently.
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
I'm not very worried about Wisconsin. It is on the road, but that's the type of offense our defense matches up best with. At Penn St. and TTUN concern me though.
i, for one, do not our defense matches up with michigans offense well at all
Keep in mind the injuries we have on defense right now too, just saying.
Yes our defense sucked tonight, but I'm shocked at the lack of credit given to Indiana. They actually have a pretty damn good offense this year (see MSU game). They haven't failed to score more than 24 points in any game this year.
Also @VHX7: Don;t expect Denard to be able to throw the ball 54 times without 5+ interceptions. There's not a better passing team in the B1G than Indiana, which says alot about how bad the B1G s this year. But my point is I don't see Michigan scoring 49 points with that turnover machine back there. Our D may give up a bunch of yards but usually (excluding tonight) they come up with several turnovers.

Sabino's loss is huge. Same with Nate. Honestly, the defense will probably tighten up (say that to myself every week), but we should definitely look forward to next year. The defense will be a LOT better, and hopefully Fick will be gone, or at least won't be in charge of playcalling.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
Much to my disgust, our defense matches up most poorly with TSUN.
The best matchup for us is Wisky.
Honestly we could lose any of those games. We could also win any of those by thirty.
I actually don't think we match up that poorly with UM. If we can hold Denard to less than 200 yards on the ground I think were fine. It's the QBs who can throw that are murdering our defense. If Denard throws the ball a lot, he is going to throw multiple INTs, its just the way he is.

VHX - not sure why you got downvoted, so I evened you out. I agree, there are no gimmees with our D. After today's performance, TSUN scares the bejeebers out of me. Hopefully Sabino will be healed by then. Right now, it's absolutely one game at a time, and hoping we score one more point than the other team.
Good point Triv - hopefully Denard plays just like Taylor Martinez.
I think Taylor Martinez is a better passer than Denard and he threw 3 picks. Denard is a better runner, but i think you can slow him downa bit if Shazier spies him. Hell maybe him Perkins if hes as fast as advertised.

We just beat Indiana by 3 and you're worried we might have a "trap game" in State College, or against anyone for that matter? I don't see how that's remotely possible.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
it is inevitable someone will beat us with a defense like this... im just glad urban came and saved the offense.... i see urbz cleaning house on d this offseason
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
PSU. On the road, at night, they will throw it 50+ times, we will let them....
With all do respect I disagree with Alex. Inevitable means its going to happen no matter what Ohio State does. That the outcome of the game is out of their hands and I believe its all in the Buckeyes hands. Go Bucks!
I think it's just going to be one of those years. The chance of cardiac arrest everytime the ball is snapped. I compare this season to going to the theater. I've laughed. I've cryed. I've been on the edge of my seat. I've covered my eyes. I don't think they get beat this season. Their young and their playing like it. They make good teams look bad and average teams look great. Please keep your hands and feet inside the car until the ride has come to a complete stop!!!

I agree...this defense is like swiss cheese.

My thanks simply go out to Urban & Herman for installing a competent offense that can score points. If we still had an idiot like Bollman in there running the offense, we would be 2-5 right now. That's no exaggeration either.
In my opinion, our defense is playing with the mentality that they are going to do just enough to win/get by. That's why we have been letting opponents like Indiana put up so many points. It's all about the JUICE
I agree with Triv about IU not getting any credit. In the past, if you jumped up 2 TD's on IU, that was all she wrote. They knew a beat down was on it's way, and they just accepted it. That IU team last night had no quit in it. Their coach has changed the culture of that program. My guess is they pull off one of these upsets over a team they should get blown out by.
You may be able to win a shootout against everyone but tsun. They have the ability to match OSU score for score and their D is actually getting pretty good. If they had not lost Countess in the first game, they would be VERY good.
The way PSU's passing attack is growing under O'Brien I'm worried. I get a very bad feeling about that one. There is no way to run the table when a defense is doing this bad. All it takes is a decent game from Brax. He has been outstanding so far, but if he has an only an OK game we can't win giving up that many points.
Again, I don't see the horrible matchup problem against UM. Both us and Michigan are predominantly run-based teams, them almost entirely with Denard, us split 50-50 between Brax and Carlos. I took a look at some stats and heres what I found:
Michigan has the 17th ranked Rush Offense, Ohio State is 8th (advantage OSU)
OSU has the 33rd ranked rushing defense @ 122 yds/game, Michigan is not in the top 50 (advantage OSU)
Michigan has the 3rd rated pass defense, OSU is ungodly awful at pass defense (Advantage UM)
OSU ranks 8th in total interceptions with 10, Denard has thrown 8 already with only 6 TDs (Advantage OSU)
So the way I see it, if Ohio State can establish it's rush offense (we have had no problems with that this year) and can hold Denard to 150 yards rushing or less, UM will be put in a position where it is forced to pass the football. We all know how that works out for Denard (See ND game).
Overall: Advantage OSU

I think we are better than anyone left on the schedule, but as we have shown a couple of times this year, we can lose to anyone.
Also this team seems a bit like the 02 champions in a parallel universe where the offense was amazing and the defense did enough to win, instead of the opposite.
With our poor tackling and constantly giving up big plays TSUN and Denard give plenty to worry about. I have a feeling that that game's just gonna turn into a shootout.
It is good, speedy running backs and good passing games that kill us. Fitz is averaging 3 yards a carry this year, and Denard is a worse passer than anyone we will play all season. The only thing our defense will have to focus on is Denard running the ball. I expect a few big plays, but I anticipate a Taylor Martinez-like outcome for Denard

If we play like we did against Indiana, we are capable of losing every game we play. I'm serious when I say that. I don't care how bad we think teams are, if we sleepwalk through the game, we could even lose to Purdue or Illinois.
