Access to The WHAC

This may be a stupid question...but I'm back in the Buckeye on leave and wanted to take the family on a tour of campus, including the WHAC, would it be possible to see the areas that have all of the Heisman Trophies and the history of the Buckeyes. I need to start grooming my 1 yr old son about the greatness of Buckeye Football, so I figured what better way then to show him and my wife all of the greats of the past. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks. I don't have 200 words to post so I will just ramble on about nothing, probably repeating myself numerous times...I don't have 200 words to post, so I will just ramble on about nothing repeating myself.

The area with the Heismans, the 2002 NCG trophy, etc. is located in a public atrium at the front of the Woody, I'm not sure what the visiting hours are, but I know for sure that it's open on game days.. Also, the side entrance (drive past the main entrance a bit, then take a left) is usually open, and it has a few other trophies. The entrance to the indoor practice field is there, and it's usually open (ask an employee if you can go in and take pictures, and they usually don't have a problem).

Unless they've changed access rules in the last year, you won't be able to park at the WHAC you will have to park near Bill Jones and walk over. The lobby is open on gamedays and has hours during the week but you are honestly (coming from a former employee) not a very wwelcomed guest. You will not get access to the practice field or anything else beyond the lobby however that is great to see the history. You have to remember Tressel had the WHAC rennovated not only as a practice facility but also as a player safe haven from all of the troubles that ultimately led to his demise and the programs troubles. The WHAC and not the shoe is the epicenter of OSU football and is not generally a public friendly place.

If you want true history and not just looking to bump into coaches or players, go to the shoe. If you are in town before Friday of the game it is much more accommodating and tradition rich. PM if you'll be there, I can probably get you a behind the scenes look

Even though I've never worked at the WHAC, I'm going to have to slightly disagree with OSU07. They have an usher in the lobby of the WHAC whose sole purpose is to welcome the public. I went prior to the UCF game, and felt very welcomed.

Thanks for the info folks. We mainly just want to see the Heismans and stuff like that, if we get to see more then that's a bonus...Will definitely be taking them to the Shoe.

@O-H,

Game days are a completely different animal where all facilities are basically on display, however I would still be surprised if you made it past the lobby. Try going to the WHAC without a scheduled tour and not on a game day and you won't make it very far.

Just gotta remember the WHAC is made to keep the bad out and there is no way to tell the good from the bad. You have agents lurking around, fanboys looking to pay players, people looking to profit off of players and autographs. Although you have good intentions not all or even the majority of visitors do so I'm just trying to caution or temper anyone's expectations for access to the program.

Anyhow go bucks!!!

OSU07: for sure getting past the lobby is next to impossible unless you have a burning desire to serve jail time for trespassing. I don't have to tell you that, like the Shoe, they'll show you only what they want to show you.

Its been a few years since I've been to WHAC, it is a hard place to get in when the players are there but otherwise I've had no problem wondering around checking it out.

Also the Buckeye Hall of Fame Cafe has alot to see. Its been a few years since I've been there but ther is alot to see there too.  They did have one of Archie Griffins heisman trophy there and the 2002 NC trophy.

O H I O is the Buckeye State
