I've been as much of a hater as anyone, but I just can't be angry after that win. There were so many things going against us like some of the terrible penalty calls, that 1st fumble that Purdue stole, and the huge amount of injuries. I thought the team showed a huge amount of heart in winning that game.
Also, it doesn't hurt that we are always terrible against Purdue. I'm happy beating them no matter how ugly it is.
So we barely beat a team we should have blown out of the water... and we should be happy? 2002 => NC... 2012 => nothing. If we win a NC this year I'll shut up.
You go to the bar and wrok hard to develop a thick set of beer goggles, you then proceed to bring home eight very ugly women to your place and further proceed to engage in relations with all eight of these unattractive ladies. At the end of the day, you're still a hero. You still brought home eight girls in one night and will forever have phenomenal stories to relate to others around the cold coffee and stale cookies of an AA meeting.
What made your comment all troll-tastic was the demand to win a NC this year in order to be sated. You know as well as everyone else on these boards of the impossibility of that, yet you assert that you will continue to bash the team until it happens.
@Urban - Great Analogy. - I'll take the 8 ugly women and the 8 ugly wins everytime!
@OSU07 - They stepped up as a team when it counted and that's all that matters. I've been critical of the D but they saved our bacon today. Kenny Guiton wins the gameball!
If we won out, went to a NC game, we'd get destroyed ala Florida. We should be a happy a weak Big Ten schedule this year and a young OSU team isn't going to be overhyped if we went 12-0 and end up in the NC game just to be embarrassed. The 2002 team had a KILLER defense. Forget the close wins as a comparison, the teams cannot be compared, it is not the same thing. No one here has faith in this defense while we all had faith in the 2002 defense.
If someone wants to bring up 2002 and call it the same to call people out, I will point out why it is different. That is not trolling...
It was ugly but a win! I think the offense was a lil slow today but we did get the W! Maybe we should make people wait to start threads till after the game is over because I do kinda agree people do open threads about the game or how bad it's going a lil early (like the game is still going), so I'll kinda agree that some of the haters start early with the BS . We just have to except we win ugly(they all can't be dimes...feel me).
@Urban, it makes you a man whore that no one likes...
EDIT: Geez people, read his post about a guy being a manwhore. If you think it was directed AT him you are clearly not paying attention tot he thread and illogically downvoting.
I am tired of seeing people say the season is lost if we lose one game or were just going downhill. Its a new system with a new coach with a soph. qb and a coach who isnt even playing with his recruits. Ohio State has many flaws which will be worked out once Meyer really gets up and running. Being 8-0 or even if we were 7-1, every Ohio State fan should be praising the wins we have even though they may not come in the best of fashions. A WIN IS A DAMN WIN, whether it be a blowout or by one point. Things will be worked out in the end, trust in the URBS!
dude, when they lose one, you can say anything you want! But with a transition year to a new offense and defense, a lack of playmakers and general lack of talent, they are making this season fun and exciting. And they are laying the foundation for the future and developing some young men into great leaders!
This season could be a lot uglier. Just look at other programs the first year a new HC takes over!
buckeyekrime... the issue is that those of us that see what the team really is aren't saying things wont get better... we are saying things are not good now and they need to get better. Meyer is saying the same thing. If people want to hate on us for agreeing with the person you want us to trust, then so be it. For trusting the guy you sure don't trust the guy.
If you are in the "a win is a win" group I hear ya! I think others somehow think we accept being bad. No we don't, but I'd rather enjoy the season than stress over the things I can't control. I think WE ALL realize we are an average team (with potential) but we have way too many issues to be elite. I already stress over family and work issues and college football is my escape from reality so I am not going to stress over the fact that we are 8-0 no matter how ugly we seem to look getting there. I will be shocked if we win out, but let's enjoy today because who know what the future holds.
@Maceyko and just because we think OSU still has a bad team right now doesn't mean we are not happy with a win. So when people complain that we are not happy with a win, they are just as wrong as you say we are by saying you are accepting being bad. We just don't start threads chastising you...
1) After the way that win was gutted out, any OSU fan should really only feel two things at this moment- elation for the win and concern for Braxton Miller.
2) That said, it is not "hate" to point out weaknesses and deficiencies in the team following a win or even eight wins. No team is perfect. Adults who have played sports understand that the way to get better is frank and honest conversation about the weaknesses, how to address them or, if they can't be addressed with existing personnel, how to mask them. There is nothing wrong with evaluating our defense as very poor, critiquing Braxton's accuracy or frequent misreads, or discussing wether our continued defensive deficiencies indicate the need for a coaching change. This is what adults do. Only children run around beating their chests and chanting 8-0.
3) Point 2 not withstanding, there are some comments that serve no purpose and come close to just hate for the sake of hate. Saying OSU would lose to everybody in the SEC, or that we're really the fortieth best team in America serves no purpose. It is not provable, does not advance the conversation in terms of identifying specific weaknesses and discussing possible ways to combat them, and seems overall just kind of mean spirited.
I am going to return to my elated state now, but tomorrow I will of course discuss specific issues with this team, why they exist, and what people think we could do differently to improve. None of that is hate. I am far more tired of the immaturity of calling every criticism "hate" than I am of the immaturity of just making denigrating comments without any real discussion of football weaknesses and potential cures.
There is a lot to be worried about, but if the day ever comes that I can't enjoy the one hour immediately following an incredible come-from-behind win, I'm hanging up my buckeye necklace.

THE Ohio State University
we arent a good or great team, thats true, but we are 8-0 and urban still coaching tressels players, not his so much. just wait til urban get his 3rd class of recruits in here. for now transition year and 8-0, what do the knee jerks fans want?
Steensen, the problem is not that people refuse to believe this team is bad. Everyone is well aware of flaws of this team. The problem is the need for people to be a turd in the punchbowl everyweek instead of being happy about a win. I said it in a blog post, there were moments today that I was furious. Hell I even gave up on the game. Still had it on but chalked up the loss and started messing around online and ignoring what was going on.
We all know the limitations of this team and that there are plenty of teams who would beat this team. Where people's frustrations come in is where people constantly talk about how bad this team sucks, and how we should realized that etc. WE DO REALIZE IT, we just don't need to hear it day after day. Would you rather them be 0-8?
the team has a lot to learn a long ways to go, i choose to be happy and trust in urban , and anxiously wating for his next two recruiting classes. would you rather have joker philiips for your coach? patience fans patience. my only complaint is that urban isnt getting the freshman more playing time, but he is focused on winning now, so be it.
Both sides are starting threads back and forth saying how the other side has to "Realize" something. The issue is that it is 1 (we suck, realize it) to 10 (why can't you just be happy) threads. The issue is that no one who says the team isn't good is calling the others "not real fans" or "haters." You say that, someone is going to respond.
EDIT: Further they aren't abusing the downvoting system in response...
@Steensn This team was awful last year. They are now 8-0. That is a massive improvement in a transitional year with no postseason. This is reason to celebrate. We are woefully understocked with talent for an OSU team and yet we keep winning. Obviously, expectations need to be tempered and improvement needs to be made, but you need to give credit where credit is earned. The team that came into this season was one of the worst in OSU modern history and is now guaranteed at least 8 wins.
^^ 3 of the last four years we have struggled with Purdue. In those years, we have won a Rose Bowl, a Sugar Bowl*, had a 6-7 season, and are currently 8-0. Three of four years we have struggled to beat Purdue, and we have only one bad season to show for it.
See, I just don't get it. Be critical, be objective, but be a fan too. I have no problem being critical of the team while enjoying an exciting, all be it poorly played, football game.
Braxton, prior to the injury was average at best. Hyde was fed too little. The Secondary continues to throw shoulders and hope for the best, and other than Ryan Shazier, Hank, and Nate Williams this entire defense played like bums (John Simon too. He can't close out on a QB to save his life).
And that sucks, but we are 8 games into this season, OSU hasn't tasted defeat yet and its enjoyable to say that. No need to rush to the 2002 analogy-that team had an uber conservative offense with 1 legit star while they had an NFL caliber D. This 2012 team has budding players on offense and 10 players full of unrealized potential and Jonathan Hankins. No need to compare any season to any season to make a point-frankly that's a pretty weak argument. You aren't really saying anything.
I love that OSU is 8-0, I'm not overly concerned about how they get there because regardless of how bad some people think they are, the one thing they do know is how to win. There are ways to coach 'winning football'. Little things on each play that add to an aggregate and all but assures your team will win a football game. Purdue does not do those things, OSU does. It isn't pretty-so fire away at what isn't. We are undefeated-so enjoy that regardless of this being a lost season.
Personally, I'd rather win 8 ugly ones than lose 8 pretty ones, but that doesn't mean I will think this team is all wine and roses. I also won't go so far as to call them bad because they are doing enough to win.
If you want to draw a comparison-look at UF's 2006 team. Save for a game or two, every game they played was a tight, gut it out kind of win. There were times I'm sure Gator fans said 'this team isn't that good!" but the wins kept piling. Regardless, I'll take the win.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
Can't disagree with your arguments, Brewester--well said.
To add on, I hate the use of the word hater. If it even is a word. If someone calls for a coach to get fired, I don't need to stoop to calling them a 'hater' just because I disagree with them. I certainly don't need to create a post to say "neener-neener" to other Ohio State fans because OSU won. Enjoy the win (I sure as heck did), but I didn't feel the need to rub fellow Buckeye fans' faces in it. That's where you all don't see that you're wrong on both sides. You shouldn't need Ohio State to win or lose or win in a certain way just so you can say you were right. And if you're glad the site wasn't here in 2002 maybe you should stick to staff articles and refrain from the comments section. Other than that you can be concerned/worried or not, and still be happy even if you are concerned, but still just be a fan. I'll be a fan right with you, even if we don't have the same opinions.
I made this same obsevation as the OP after all the haters came out last week.
If this site was up and running in 02 there would have been cries to fire Tressel for playing Tressel ball, position coaches would have been lambasted, and Brutus hung for good measure.
This team has heart. They are playing with injuries, learing a new system, playing with an entirely new coaching staff, coming off of the worst year in OSU modern history, no post season to look forward to...and all they do is win...and all the complainers do is complain about the manner in which they do it.
This team and coaching staff should long be remembered for pulling Ohio State out of the muck and mire propelling it to greatness once again.
Haters feel free to jump off at any point this season. I love this team, I love their heart, their work ethic, and the desire to push the program forward.
Here's how I view the situation...we're 8-0 and we all agree we have a TON of things to correct and improve. I'd say that's a great spot to be in. Props to Kenny G on being prepared and not let that INT shake his confidence. That's impressive for any player let alone a backup. Nice job man.
Oh yeah, btw, before I hear the 'we're just conducting ourselves as true fans and we should be allowed to critique the team'....I wanna say if you came on here and first congratulated the players and coaches for their effort, and truly endeavored to point out what's right..maybe your 'critique' would be better received. Unfortunately for most of you, the negativity is the first thing you post after a win..which makes you a spoiled fan with very unrealistic expectations.
Despite how bad we are its still better than last year to watch! Last year took 10 years off my life and this year gave 5 back so far! We go 12-0 I might get some years back from all the pre , intra and post game activities!!!
THANK GOD we are not eligible for a bowl game. You guys are happy with this win? seriously? You guys praising this win are the same ones who would be at the bottom of a barrel after we got trounced by an SEC team for the way we played PURDUE!!!!!!!!! Are you kidding me! PURDUE!!!!!! We needed every second of the game to win and granted we won and im happy with the thriller of the victory we got but you guys are smoking something to be estatic with this. something is seriously wrong with you if your saying "welp we are 8-0, nothing is wrong"
Nobody is saying there isn't anything wrong, nobody is saying we don't have stuff to work on.
Seriously, you can't just enjoy a win?
BTW, Urban F Meyer was plenty pleased afterwards, he had the biggest grin I've seen yet after a win. So yeah, if he's happy with winning today I guess I am as well.
Dont get me wrong, the kids showed the heart of champions out there. dealt with alot and came out with a great win. Defense showed their grit in overtime. Alot to be happy with that D this week but it was just as I said last week. Cant rely on offense every week. This week showed that exactly.
Happy with 8-0 but believe me Urban is not happy with what happened on the field. He was happy to see what the kids are made of but we should have murdered Purdue today. Im telling you right now, the glass half full crowd is going to get a nasty dose of something with the likes of penn st. if something doesnt change.
But with all that said, you better believe im hitting the streets out here in Florida with my Ohio st. UFM shirt on to celebrate.
O-H!!!!!! 8-0!!!!!!!!! And get better Braxton!!!!!!!!!!
8-0 does not happen by accident. Criticize this team all you want. To be 8-0 and have so many flaws - this is a good spot to be in. We can enjoy the wins without worrying about how a subpar performance affects our national title chances. The team hs things to work on, and no reason to be complacent about anything. I'm enjoying this season - if you're not, well, too bad for you.
Definitely LOTS of room for improvement, especially on defense. However, this team is finding ways to win every week, and last year it was the opposite. Hope we finish this year strong and continue to build something great. The only time I say "we suck" is when we give up big plays on special teams and when the same offensive play works on our D more than twice. But overall, we are much improved. Gotta look at the positive.
Can't argue against Meyer. He knows what he is talking about. I love the bit about Meyer posting here... you're right, he couldn't get a single non-greyed out post unless he started a thread where you can't abuse the system.
Right now we're not -- I don't want to say we're not a good team, -- but we're not," coach Urban Meyer

At the end of the day, you're still a hero. You still brought home eight girls in one night and will forever have phenomenal stories to relate to others around the cold coffee and stale cookies of an AA meeting.
So yeah, they've been ugly wins. Still wins.
I'm glad Urban's standards are higher than the downvoters abusing the system.
I'm happy we somehow won, but we still suck
What made your comment all troll-tastic was the demand to win a NC this year in order to be sated. You know as well as everyone else on these boards of the impossibility of that, yet you assert that you will continue to bash the team until it happens.
Not exactly a well-reasoned argument.
I dont understand why people can't be happy we won but still realize we suck.

Here's how I view the situation...we're 8-0 and we all agree we have a TON of things to correct and improve. I'd say that's a great spot to be in. Props to Kenny G on being prepared and not let that INT shake his confidence. That's impressive for any player let alone a backup. Nice job man.
Nice to be 8-0, but I have a hard time believing OSU would keep it close againgst the other undefeated teams in the country.
Wherever you are, there you be!
Let's all just be grateful that the schedule this year is a bit of a joke.
I honestly don't think all the other undefeated teams would beat Ohio State. UC, UofL, and Ohio are very beatable.
Class of 2010.
