@Iron: IMO they were using Hall wrong. They were trying to run him up the middle ala the Hyde/Bell power back way to much. He is sucessful when he gets on the edge where he can utilize his shiftiness and speed more. You could see the difference in yardage gained if you go back and look at the different run plays.
He is by no means mediocre. He was just not used effectively in this game. Once Hyde comes back and Dunn learns the whole playbook I gaurantee you'll see much better performance out of both as they are two different style of backs that compliment each others games.

All of our running backs are average at best. There really isn't a star in the bunch. It wouldn't surprise me in least E.Elliot was the starter next season, if he enrolls early. Great backs are capable of running both inside, and outside. Even L.James when he was at Oregon as small as he was run the ball effectively between the tackles.
I agree. He (Hall) looks like the best RB we've got to me. Hits the hole fast and has good instincts. Hyde is clearly our next best, but until he's healthy again the cupboard is pretty bare as it relates to #2 RB's.
Braxton is still the best ball runner on the team - which is both awful and excellent.
I agree BUCKINBAMA none of our backs seem like studs to me. Im really not sure where all the Dunn hype is coming from. Sure he looked decent against UCF for a bit but come'on seriously? Now we're ready to crown him as the next great OSU back? I just dont see it. Im not saying any of our backs are trash but im just not seeing the star potential right now. They have all looked pretty average thus far and were not even into B1G play...
a good bit of halls yards came off of braxton drawing in the edge defender and pitching at the right moment giving hall a good 5 yards of space to run in to, and schooey while we may not agree on tressels coaching ability youre right, guy goes down on first contact every time.
Well i like college and i like football...and im gunna keep doin em both cause they make me feel good!!!
There isn't one currently on the roster, he is simply the best of a very average group of backs. I think the two games Hyde started he averaged about the same thing.
It's not rocket science to figure out who gets carries. Hall and Hyde split most of them with Dunn and Boren gettin a few each. Should be enough carries to go around.
Look people....did you forget how much time Hall missed because of this injury....I thought he did rather well for the amount of time he missed....gosh, let him get his legs back under him.
I agree with a couple posts here. I do believe Jedkat has it right. I dont know why they use Hall the way they do instead of trying to get him in space. I mean, thats all weve heard is how this offense is designed to spread the defense and create space for the playmakers. That certainly didnt seem to be how they utilized Hall today.
I also agree with Ohio GF. It was his first game back and it was, after all, an injury to his greatest asset, his quick feet. Give him a little time.
As the saying goes "If you don't have anything good to say don't say nothing at all." Well I've never been good at integrating this rule into my life, so excuse my flame fanning. Jordan Hall has always in my opinion been just a change of pace back or situational type back.
Pros
Pass catching
Runs best in space
Grasp of the playbook
Blocks well
Cons
Lacks separation speed
Doesn't run between the tackles well
Limited yards after contact
Power running game
Did I say speed
In my opinion, Jordan's downsides keep him from being a real game changer. I'm not saying he's not a great tool to have in the arsenal, but an every down back he is not.

Does anyone remember how bad Eddie George looked when he first got to Columbus? Gimme a break! Dunn has carried the ball how many times in his Ohio State career and already the "fans" have written him off. Did everyone think we were going to waltz thru this season without any hiccups? There were bound to be some growing pains with a new coaching staff, as well as a new system. Anyone who thought we were gonna be Alabama North this season was delusional. I see where Coach Meyer is going with this, but right now he doesn't have the horses he needs to go undefeated. We're 3-0 and i see crazy improvement over last year. I'll reserve judgement 'til after the MSU game, because that's when I'll really know how good or bad we are: until then I'll just sit back and watch Braxton's development.
Dunn is the most talented back on the roster, but until he can run plays correctly, block, sell fakes, and execute, he will be on the sideline. Hall is a decent back, but he is never going to be a game changer. Not enough speed to break away, not enough power to break tackles, and not enough wiggle to make people miss inside the tackles. Just is what he is at this point. I prefer Hyde for now. Next year, you've gotta think Dunn will have a lot of opportunities in camp to take the job. And I won't be surprised if Zeke comes in and starts immediately. Has the speed, explosion, shiftiness, and pass catching to play right away.
I was asking the same thing.

dunn? the kid is a star waiting to happen. but i wont second guess urban, he makes the big money.
After watching him run into braxton last week I would say it's because he doesn't know the playbook
Wasn't that Rod Smith who ran into Braxton?
totally with you(see blog post "hyde")..without hyde this offense has to have someone to pound the ball inside, hall will never be that back.
Well i like college and i like football...and im gunna keep doin em both cause they make me feel good!!!
Sorry to say but Hall is a mediocre back to say the least. The play calling left even less to be desired!

@J.MO
No, that was Bri'onte who ran into Braxton. Rod was the one who fumbled at the end of the game.

Hall averaged 5 per carry. Not sure why you all say he was mediocre.
Hyde will be the starter again next season with Brionte following. Elliot will probably get worked in but won't get starter carries.

so to be clear. corey brown had more carries that Brionte Dunn.
~Because we couldn't go for three~
Hall shoud've had 100 yrds rushing easy. He didn't, and he doesn't break many if any tackles.

I have never seen Hall break a tackle. Ever, to my recollection.

So, Buckinbama, which RB are you suggesting as a better option to Hall (87 yards on 17 carries, 5.1 yards per carry)?

Who has written off Dunn?
Nobody has written him off. I think he will be good, but right at this moment he's young and still has a lot to learn before he can take the field.
