It has been yelled far beyond a few seasons ago... mostly was just a few officers of Block "O" and their friends. Looks like has exploded in popularity recently
It's happened for about the last four years. Usually it's just the extremely rambunctious ones that yell it, but many joined in especially after our second score, where it was clearly heard on BTN.
It gives our stadium an edge, besides I've never heard it outside pockets in the South Endzone really. It was certainly audible on TV, but I imagine that's because everyone in the South endzone finally caught on. Also "O-H-I-O Go Bucks" would sound so lame on a kickoff. Sorry, but if saying that either pumps up the students (far and away the loudest group in the stadium) or makes the stadium more intimidating I'm all for it. The crowd was pathetic outside of the South endzone this past game. The entire East and West sides of the stadium sat most of the game from my viewpoint.
Yep, exactly William. It gets everyone pumped because it's slightly taboo. Most people never hear it, I guess BTN must've mic'd really close to students after the second score. It's not something most people hear.
The last game I was moving around a bit, but I was in the block for the opening kick and only a few did it, after the beginning of the second it was LOUD on TV (once the offense broke through)(, but you couldn't hear it on the east side of the stadium where I moved to (24C). From the north (5-ish C) and west (23) ends later it wasn't audible at all.
It bothers me just as much when people bitch about Seven Nation Army and how it's overplayed and not unique. Well guess what? It gets the students going. That's so much of the problem with our gameday crowds in the 'Shoe and the Schott. They sit there, check their blood sugar level, make sure their oxygen tubes aren't tied, and then complain when someone stands up or yells. I could care less about whether or not it's mainstream, if it makes noise and makes the stadium intimidating, who cares?
I agree Will, our stadium can be pretty dull for most games, besides big plays and the dotting of the I. Whatever gets the juice flowing, I mean most of you have never heard it, so I don't see it as a problem. No harm.
Please stop being so goddamn sensitive. You whined then complained after I said whining would do nothing about it. How funny is that, that you had to resort to a personal attack? This is why I rarely post anymore. Too sensitive to such frivolous things.
Completely agree Urbz. I'd kill for the 'Shoe to have an atmosphere like Death Valley at LSU. They should move the students back to the sidelines but the Athletic Department would lose far too much money doing that. Someone actually called me Will, I wish I could fix my stupid screen-name, because I haven't gone by William since ~3rd grade haha.
I'm with you man. The officers have tried hard this year to raise the energy level. It's just hard since we won't have a north block until B1G season (due to partial ticket packages) and the placing of the sections. I mean, we had TONS of people trying to sneak into games that we had to turn away (without the bouncers w/ticket marking and hand stamping process we would have been screwed). They could've sold a lot more tickets if the block were bigger, which would give us a lot more centered sound.
I mean, look at the bball student section. Anything for an edge. Anyway, I'm going to sleep so I can enjoy not having to get up for an early semester class. Keep calm and Go Bucks!
That brings up another point in general, the ushers this past Saturday were total dicks to a lot of students. I mean guys, you're frigging ushers, no need for a power trip if someone goes to sit with their buddies let them, it isn't harming anyone. We had one usher move a group of ~30 people because they were out of order, and no one cared that they were....
Just had to chime in in this, I have witnessed (in the south stands!) people yelling at kids in front standing up on third down.. It's ridiculous... U don't have to get crazy, but don't start complaining about people standing and making noise, we need our stadium to be recognized as one of the toughest to play in..
I haven't missed a home game at Ohio Stadium in years and this is the first I've heard of this "rip his head off" thing. It is not audible in the parts of the stadium I have been sitting.
What I hear after the ball is kicked is "O-H-I-O".
I've been to ~5 games in the past two seasons and I didn't hear it at all last year, but this past game I could hear that they were saying something, but it was hardly audible after O-H-I-O. I could care less if the student section says it because it is their college football team and we are going to watch, but I will never say it because I don't sit there and wouldn't want to yell that by kids.
Rip his f*cking head off...they have been doing it the last couple of seasons but yesterday was the loudest I have heard it
Thats odd I go to games every year and havent missed a game in lord knows how long, but i've never heard that before in my life
Wait so there saying... O H I O... and then that? I don't remember hearing that during the Wiscy game last year.
Same here, first time I've heard it... so now I'll be listening for it next Saturday.

Cause I couldn't go for three
Last year it really picked up during the Indiana game I think. I watched the replay on BTN today and it has never been that loud. Me like.
does anyone have audio of this? lol really surprised something of somewhat mild distaste is that widespread...but i'm ok with it

I don't care for that. I liked "go bucks" better. Not sure many parents of little ones appreciate it either. Oh well, it is what it is though now...
It also makes our fanbase sound a little classless by adding that as one of our "game day traditions". It's pretty stupid to me.

Students are students.

I'm not sure that anybody is "whining" about it...

I removed the word whining because it was more like "complaining". Happy?
Not really but its never worth getting into anything with you.
Go Bucks!
