We just gave up 400+ yards to a C-USA bottom feeder...

...at home, too. Wow.

I know a lot if has been missed tackles/poor angles, but at some point - the coaching/scheming has to have something to do with the problems. I'm not saying it's all coaching, but some of it has to be, when you see what's happened to this D so far this season. Maybe give some of the freshmen more reps.

If this holds up all season, there has to some change(s) made on Defense after the seson is over. There's just too much talent on the roster to get these results. No excuse.

Conference USA.

The Sun Belt is BETTER than Conference USA.

UAB is a Conference USA bottom feeder.

We also gave up no TDs on defense and they only made it inside our 30 one time.  There are problems, but they did their job when it mattered most.

I don't understand why we don't dink and dunk all day.  High-percentage passes should be our bread and butter, with Stoneburner and the tight ends catching 8-10 passes between them.  Three and outs are killing our defense and time of possession.  Also, how many turnovers did we really have, when you count the running into the kicker turnover, the onside kick turnover, and the taunting penalty turnover?

I dunno, this offense is basically Bollman ball from the shot gun formation. They didn't throw to Stonebrner once today..not ONCE!! who knows...

When I heard in the Spring that the D was kicking the O's ass I said "Well yeah the D has studs and will be the strength of this team." Then in Fall camp when I heard the O was doing well and winning I said "Oh my goodness, our O has overtaken our stellar D!" We gonna kick ass al day long!

Wrong Grasshopper! Our D is average and so is the O. Our LBers and DBs play too deep. Do we not have the people to play it closer? Either our coaches think not or they are asleep. On O, Brax is still a great athelete playing QB. He is not yet as good a QB as we have faced this season.

On an un related note, why am I not getting the HD feed I'm paying for from BTN. BTN does a piss poor job in more than just that aspect.

Wait, let me get this straight. We didn't allow a touchdown on defense, but we allowed a lot of yards, and people are pissed? Getting mad over allowing yardage is pointless. They didn't score any TDs on offense, that's a success in my book. Special teams was absolutely horrific in this game though.

Yeah....when they said on that 84 yard drive that ended in a field goal...over 50 yards of the 84  were on third down...if I'm not mistaken didn't they have 3rd and 18 on one and 3rd and 23 on the other?  I remember just a few short years ago when Ohio State would have a team in 3rd and 5 or longer you knew the other team would be punting...now I just figure if its 3rd and 12 the other team will get 14 or if its 3rd and 23 the other team will get 28.

William I understand what you are saying but to allow teams of this caliber who aren't very good to get this many yards....it will spell disaster in the big ten.

Every coach in the country knows how to attack OSU.  Its not hard, all you have to do is continually throw bubble screens and quick wr screens and get 5-9 yards every play.  Its simply amazing that Urban cant get his d coordinators to do something about that.  Yes its true that they often bend but dont break and give up TD's but how can your QB get in a rythm when your defense is on the field for 30 mins at a time and then when he comes in you run couple zone reads again for 2 yards followed by a dropped pass and then the defense comes out for another 30 minutes.

Then all of a sudden we spread the field and go give 5 wide and miller tears it up throwing and pulling it down when the play breaks down.  but we only do that in even quaters I guess.

Also, that was the worst attemp at punting i have even seen they blocked it before his foot even touched the ball.  three other guys would have made that block if he hadn't.  That said i dont think it was totally Buchanans faullt but I personally just dont think he is a good punter at all.

I agree --- on Offense, we need to attack the field vertically down the middle more. There are too many long-developing and/or horizontal routes, and not enough seem routes down the middle to the TE &/or Stoney. And, there are not enough shots taken deep down the middle on posts to stretch the field vertically.

Coaches make a difference. That G.Mcghee is going to be a DAMN good coach probably not at UAB, but he will get his shot at the big-time before its all said, and done. He is already better than any coach we have not named Urban.

@ William, it's not just the yardage --though the yardage was bad-- but the situations.  3rd and 17, 3rd and 15, and both were picked up for first downs . . . by UAB!  That's bad, real bad. MSU won't challenge the weakest parts of our defense, but watch out for Nebraska.  Remember that 4th quarter last year?  We've got two weeks to fix these problems.

It's UAB. They possessed the ball 8 goddamn minutes more than we did and got to run like 20 more offensive plays than we did... Unacceptable.

I suspect Withers and Fickel are going to be coaching elsewhere next year unless things improve in a major way.

Any given Saturday.  Believe it or not, UAB isn't fielding a bunch of average college students every Saturday.  They do have athletes who can make plays.  They made more plays than this defense should have allowed, true.  But OSU isn't going to force a 3 and out or turnover on every drive.  Plays will be allowed.  Yards will be gained.  And at times, points will be scored.  The only stat that matters is points.  The defense gave up 9.  You people will be happy with the exact same defense effort next week - 9 yards with some yards allowed - and you know it.

You guys should more concerned about offensive consistency.  Too much stagnation at times put the defense on the field too much.  Only 29 points?  I'm more disappointed with that.
