Urban Defensive Philosophy

I know that Urban preaches and expects great D, and has and them in the past, but his actions worry me. I noticed several times during the game that in key defensive situations urban was not anywhere near the huddle....and after the game he said he doesn't pay to much attention to the D in the game....it makes me think that inUrbans system you need a coordinator who has a head coach mentality since he is more hands off when it comes to defense. Thoughts?

You have to take into account the fact that Urban got burnt out at Florida because he felt he had to have too much control on every facet of the team's game. He's the typical perfectionist, and the only way he feels he can coach again successfully and not not fall into the same trap is to trust his coordinators and assistant coaches. This is a staff he has not worked with before (largely because his former assistants/coordinators are now head coaches at other programs e.g. Charlie Strong) so it will take a little time. Mickey Marotti I believe is the only coach he's worked with before.

i also think with the nonconference play against teams you hardly see, you face really good athletes and dont know thier weapons too well...

they got UAB next week, and if they can survive that one, they can go into the big ten and face some familiar foes...i think when big ten play starts, the defense will get better because the speed is so slow...lol, just kidding, they will be better because ohio states defense is built to stop big ten football...we better watch out for denard at the end of the season....that game....excuse me...THE GAME is looking like it should be a shootout..
