I have read multiple articles this week on how the Buckeyes are too dependent on Braxton. But I ask this question...was Stanford too dependent of Luck the past 2 years, what about Texas with Vince Young? I have always thought the QB is the most important player on the team, and should be not only a leader but someone to look to for the big play. Seems like the Buckeyes finally have a great QB to lean on and the nation doesnt like it...

I think last night d uring the Stanford game they mentioned that Luck only really threw the ball 45 percent of the time in his career at Stanford. I get what you are saying though. I think the people who are really worried about the Buckeyes leaning too much on Braxton are those who want to make sure he actually makes it through the whole season and doesn't get beat up too badly. After the UCF game he said basically his whole body ached because he took so many hits. I think that's why they have not leaned so heavily on him the last 2 games.
I think the difference is that with Braxton, so far he has been our ENTIRE offense. We go as far as he goes. As good as Luck, and Vince Young, and Geno Smith, and and even our own Troy Smith were, they had a supporting cast around them that eased some of the burden. We haven't seen that yet with anyone else on offense. I wouldn't take it as an insult at all, if anything it is a compliment ot the skill and potential Miller has. But like myself and many other Buckeye fans, the worry is that if he gets hurt things could get very bad for OSU.
I haven't seen many articles stating that...
I guess this is a debate I don't think is worth having because Meyer's offense always leans heavily on the QB. It won't change with Braxton and if he would go down, next man up. So, he is going to be the playmaker because thats what the offense dictates
why isnt it worth having? i have seen much much dumber debates on this site, and you know it.
and yes, I would love for one or 2 other guys on offense to step up and help him out. But, until a team can stop him this year, i have no problem leaning heavily on him.
I hold my breath every time he runs the ball. He has no fear of contact. I want to see him carry a max of 8 times. We've got to get a running game that's not exclusively Braxton and throw more screens. 8 carries is more than enough for a guy that's a threat to score every time he tucks it away.

If Braxton only has 8 carries there is almost no way we score enough points on MSU to win. Ideally I think he has less than 20, but more than 12. He makes our offense go, and we haven't proven that we have other big threats yet. And if you don't use his athletic abilities to help you win the big games, then what good are they? We definitely need to establish other threats, but if we don't use our biggest gun in our toughest game, then we just won't win.
In a game like this week's the offense has to be dependent on Miller. In the interest of him surviving the season he needs some games where others take some of the load.
vacuuming sucks
They can say what they want -- anything said based on what little bit we've seen so far is seriously premature. If after two to three Big Ten games we are still riding him, then that argument could be made with a little more weight behind it. But the fact is that we've played four non-conference games under a totally new offense with our two best RBs hurt a majority of the time. I think the offense we will see in the next coming weeks, given that everyone remains healthy, will be more to everyone's liking.
I'm all about the win on saturday, but I want to see Miller make the end of the season. I can't believe that we have no one else that can make a play. I hope Urban opens it up against MsU. If he has to carry it 25 times to beat sparty, so be it.

If you found it on ESPN, dispose of article as you see fit.
@Dancorona...
didn't mean anything personal. Just really haven't seen/heard that although it is happening. Bottom line is, Meyer is going to ride his QB to victory. The spread demands it, without a dynamic runner at QB, defenses aren't going to respect the option and key on our backs.
In order for this offense to be successful, it needs to lean heavily on QB play.
That's what I mean by the debate isn't worth having necessarily just because Meyer has and will continue to demand a majority of offensive production comes from the QB
no worries, didnt take it personally. it hasnt been the subject of articles, but it keeps coming up in them, and different "professional analysts" make the comment, especially with gameday.
and i dont read espn articles, i use their site for fantasy sports...and thats it.
@ShaunOSU
Braxton only needs two carries Saturday as long as they are touchdowns. M State only beat us by 3 points last year.
Hes not a great QB YET. He's a phenomenal athlete that can make plays with his legs and his quickness but it takes more to be a great QB than to breakoff nice runs.

^^^The key word is...yet. You are correct. He's exciting to watch, but great...not yet. I have however,reserved a seat on the bandwagon. I think the potential for this kid is endless. Want me to save a seat for ya?

I am too def on Cajun, he has all the potential in the world as well as plenty of time to develop into a top tier QB. Once he develops better pocket presence, passing, seeing the field, patience, etc I think he can be a phenomenal and complete QB.

Urban stated he is more concerned about Miller getting hit hard standing in the pocket than running the ball. That's why he wants him to run if things start breaking down.
I personally would love to see him wrap that ?@&$ ball up when he is running. Granted he doesn't have a fumbling problem, but just the way he carries it is very inviting for a good defense to knock it out easily. Last weeks game was really close until he started getting calls to run. So UFM was prolly trying to lessen the load on him but no one else was stepping up. I for one would love to see a lot of pass plays called to lessen the load on what everyone's defending, the run. Feel as if we could make more pass plays it would spread their d out and open up our run game.

ESPN is OSU's greatest motivator. For about two weeks now I've been hearing how OSU has Braxton Miller and no one else--if I were anyone but Miller this week, I'd be pissed off and ready to play. This is a good time to show the analysts that there's more to OSU than one player, hopefully they take advantage of it.
That doesn't make much sense. If that's the case then he'll never Truely develop as a passing QB.

I don't mind being dependent upon Braxton, as long as we're not totally dependant on his legs. Being dependant on his arm to make room for the running back(s) is fine by me. If he is our running back, however, he's never going to make it a full season and we will not make it where we want to go.

I feel like a little kid at Christmas. After all the speculating that everyone of us has done; nobody knows what we've got until Urban opens the box tomorrow at 3:30.
