SEC Rocks the AP Rankings Again?

I love the polls.  They are good for conversation and that's about it.  Did I read that right and 4 of the top 7 teams are all SEC teams? including the top 2 again?  Funny.  If I have to hear about another all SEC National Title Game again I think I may have to take up soccer.  Lol.  I know there's too much football to play to actually worry about the rankings, but I do get a kick out of them!!!

in the top 28 there are 5 big 10 teams and 6 sec teams, not a big deal i dont think. and there may very well be an ALABAMA-LSU rematch for the title. oh well.

Then you might as well get it over with and take up soccer.

The B1G just needs to consolidate into one super team to conquer the SEC.  Don't even need to change the logo.

Top of SEC dominance is no myth, Alabama and Lsu are in a top tier above everyone else again and then its everyone else.

I could never make it through another 'Bama-LSU game of the century. LSU doesn't cross the 50yd line and for weeks all I hear is "greatest defensive battle I ever seen". I can't do it again. My head will explode if there is an all SEC championship game.

I don't know if they are on top all on their own neccessarily, Florida State looks pretty effin good so far this year, and with the suckage USC has had this year, Notre Dame's schedule doesn't look all that impossible now.  They beat Oklahoma(who could also finish undefeated if they beat Notre Dame) and they'll get a spot in the title game.

I don't think we'll see another all SEC final. Georgia and South Carolina, may lose more than 1 game this year.  Tennessee looks like they are better than they have been and could beat either team and same with Florida.  Florida looks like they are just good enough that they could  give a game to LSU this season, but they are still bad enough that they could lose to USC or Georgia.

So yeah, I can see why 4 of the top 7 are SEC teams, the best from the other conferences keep getting beat down.  USC was supposed to be up there, they aren't.  No one in the B1G is worthy of the top 10.  The Big East is a laugher. The Big 12 has a couple good teams.  There's no use in complaining about the rankings when our "best" teams are getting trucked by Alabama, and losing to MAC teams and Notre Dame.

LSU/Bama national title game was the least watched national title game of the BCS Era i believe. 2nd worst BCS game to one of the classic ACC/Big East Orange Bowls a few years ago... no body wants to see an all SEC title game.

Florida is just as good, if not better than South Carolina or UGA. The only one you can say is overrated is probably South Carolina. FSU and Texas are teams to watch going forward. Beyond that it's all SEC title contenders.

Bama and LSU both have favorable schedules this year, especially Bama. But I'm still not convinced that it will be an all SEC NC game. The real competition is just starting next weekend.

I thought FSU was going to the team that was the most overrated, they have proven me wrong. I thought USC's offense was going to be unstoppable (regardless of the D play), I was proven dead wrong. This is why we play the game! There is no doubt that Alabama looks like the best team in the nation, crown them now (until I get proven wrong again :) ).

It's the best conference...hopefully this year in the BCS title someone can knock them off.  I just don't see it happening.  I doubt you'll see another SEC vs SEC title game though.  I didn't like seeing it...not sure if anyone else liked it.  I still think Ok. State would have been better match up against LSU rather than have a SEC rematch.  Oh well....

Agree with most of what has been said. I am a Buckeye homer but remember when we played LSU in the Title Game?  I said then we were in trouble. That's kind of how I see Alabama and LSU now. Just in another class normally. I don't care who faces one of them. Florida St, Texas, Oregon. Anyone to challenge them and make it an exciting game would work!  I'm not sure who will be standing at the years end but the Big Ten wont be one of them barring some crazy and I mean crazy things happening from here on out.

I don't understand the SEC hatred. They are the strongest conference in CF today. I think that's pretty well fact, as borne out by the fact that they have dominated in the BCS, bowls, and out of conference games for the last 5 years. It doesn't mean they will always be dominant, or that other conferences won't be able to recruit, and build strong programs,; it simply means that they are stacked with talent right now, and few teams in the nation would want to go up against them right now.

It's not a fact. Actually the fact is that they are about .500 in the bowls and out of conference games in the last decade. If you actually look at the numbers. Maybe that's why you don't understand the "hatred."

Urban John Simon Meyer's picture
Urban John Simo... on 16 Sep 2012 - 8:17pm #

They're .696 in BCS games and .875 in the championship. I'd say that's pretty dominant, considering B1G, Big East, & ACC are .333, Big 12 is .286, and Pac 12 (after vacating wins) is .000. Yes, they have some teams that bring down their out-of-conference win percentage, but the elite teams are the best in the nation and IMO they have proved that to be a fact. I root against the SEC at every opportunity, but I don't hate them...

Honestly, watching games so far and how terrible the B1G is, there are 5 SEC teams that would win the B1G and Big East this year.  Those same 5 would fare well in other conferences too.

Florida State looks really good, but do you know who they've played? Murray State. Savannah State. And Wake Forest. A Murderer's Row for sure. And yes, I don't think they've given up any points yet, but come on. Quite frankly its too early to tell how good a lot of teams really are because of the competition they've played thus far. I'm not willing to crown anyone a champ yet. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

If FSU beats Clemson they are probably going undefeated.  Really Clemson and Florida are the only 2 teams on their schedule to worry about, and I'm not even all that sure how much they need to worry about Clemson.

i like fsu alot this yr. ;ast yr was one yr too early for the hype. wake forest is a solid program(for the acc) and they embarassed them. top recruiting classes the past few yrs. alot of talent, sick D. i got them vs bama in national champonship.

-i'm also a FSU fan second to ohio st due to family ties to the school and family ties to bobby bowden so take my comments with a grain of salt lol

^Wake Forest is a terrible program. They had a few decent years when they had Skinner at QB, but they've been perennially terrible since.

I want to go out on a limb and say Oregon has a decent shot at making the title game as well as Florida State.

Oregons freshman qb has not been tested much yet, but he looks solid. Also, with Deanthony Thomas at running back, good lord, kids a freak of nature with speed. The toughest test for them is USC of course which is at USC and then they play Stanford at home. I could see USC and Oregon possibly playing twice, one reg. season and in the PAC 12 championship. Could end up being a split series.

Florida State doesnt have much of a schedule left besides Clemson and Florida, both at home.. Florida State has a great defense who has been led by Bjoern Werner who has racked up 5 and a half sacks through three games. Dudes a beast.

I dont think Alabama moves from the no.1 spot all year.

LSU has a chance to only lose one game. Alabama of course, but they have Florida at Florida which could be a game to watch for them getting an L.

I know VT laid a dud against Pitt, but they tend to do well in ACC-play. I can see them giving FSU fits when they meet in Blacksburg; Blacksburg at night is insane.

I started this thread just to get opinions and some conversation, but it is way to early to begin to even guess who is real and who isn't.  Too much football to be played.  However, I will say that I don't feel that a team that doesn't win their conference should be put in the title game.  Even if that team may actually be the second best team in the nation.  No one wanted to see a rematch back when OSU and Mich were #1 and #2 so they drop out Mich but it's ok for a SEC rematch?  That's some of my issue.  I refused to watch the title game last year and will again this year if that's what it ends up.  I don't care who the SEC champ plays but it should be another conference champion.  They may crush their opponent but then no one has a right to complain.  It is what it is at that point.  We all agree that rankings tend to be flawed anyways so I've never been a fan of the polls in general and I just cringe at the thought of another all same conference title game.

@Buckeyekrime

I agree, Oregon has a legit shot, They have Stanford's number, and I think they will get better every week with Macus Mariota at QB. If Barner and the Black Mamba can stay healthy, look out. They have a very solid defense as well.  I'm pulling for them.

West Virginia is another team to consider, No Conf championship game to worry about.  They are explosive. Geno Smith can def win the heisman.

Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.

LSU and Bama have to play each other. One of them will walk away with a loss. If there is another major conference team that is undefeated, say Florida State, Oklahoma, WV, Oregon, or whoever, I don't see how there will be a rematch of LSU-Bama. Some would argue that a one loss SEC team would have a better resume than an undefeated ACC, Big 12, or Pac 12 team, and that may be true, but I think the majority of the country would rather see 2 teams from different conferences playing in the title game.

@703Buckeye as a fellow Northern Virginian, I agree that Lane Stadium CAN get loud at night, but this VT offense this year is comparable to our offense from last year, which can really bring the crowd down. This may be one of the worst VT teams in quite some time, but their schedule guarantees 8 wins on the season.

I don't think it's a lock for an sec v. Sec ncg by any means at this moment. Fsu, ok, wv, and Oregon all have legit shots at spoiling that. We are week 3 into the season. A lot of ball to be played and lsu or bama are guaranteed one loss. If any of the other goes undefeated no way they don't make it to the dance.

I think with the way the SEC is, while Alabama and LSU look dominant - the East looks stronger with Georgia, South Carolina (maybe), Florida being a bit resurgent, and even Tennessee being better than they have been recently, I don't think we're going to see the SEC vs SEC championship.  I think the conference is going to beat each other up quite a bit more than last year.  Teams like FSU, Oregon, and Oklahoma have better chances to run the table than teams from those other conferences did last year.  OSU may sadly have the best chances of anyone right now in the B1G to run the table, but if that happens, it obviously won't matter.
