OSU in the SEC

Wondering what 11W readers think this years OSU Buckeyes would finish in the SEC (combined SEC)?? IMO- I hate to say this but if I was betting good money on this I'd have to put OSU at the 8 spot.  1.Bama 2.LSU 3. S Carolina 4. Georgia 5. Florida 6. A-M 7. Tennesse 8. OSU.  I could see a closer game with A-M and Tennesse but I'd have to put arguably the top B1G team in the 8 spot and I'm not sure they'd beat Vandy,Auburn or Arkansas. Pretty sad but true! Would love to hear other opinions without being too Buckeye bias.

Tennessee? Did you drink some ESPN kool aid?

I'd say 5-8 range would be where we ended up, just depends on how close games would go.  Don't think we have the talent on this team to play 4 quarters with LSU, USCe and Georgia at the moment.  No one it appears at the moment has the talent to play with Bama for one quarter.

Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens

I can't see OSU ranked before Bama, LSU, Georgia, Florida, or South Carolina, not with the inconsistent team we have this year, so 6th is the best case scenario

This would be a better end-of-season question. Who knows how good anyone is right now?  Our season to-date has led me to believe OSU could be really good, okay, or bad -- we're not even close to a finished product.  There have been so few good matchups across the board that judging any of the BCS conferences as a whole is pretty difficult.  I think it's safe to say we wouldn't take 'Bama this year, but beyond that, who the heck knows!?!

south carolina isn't all that and a bag of potato chips you know. they did almost lose to vandy.... I could realistically see ohio state ending up fifth.

who knows?  I have a hard time putting a finger on how I'd rate OSU at this point.  If this thread is around in 5 more weeks, I'll have an answer for you.

One thing for sure, Braxton Miller would give SEC defenses fits.

IMO, South Carolina is over-rated a bit.  Starting Oct. 6, their 4 game stretch of Georgia, @ LSU, @ Florida and Tennessee will tell the tale.

We'd compete vs Florida but would lose. I think 5th-7th is about right.... Bama, LSU, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina would beat us...after that its a toss up. Too many holes on our defense, too many inconsistencies on offense, 6th sounds about right. Could see us being similar to Texas A&M or even as low as Mizzou... we haven't shown enough to really be worthy of commentary in an SEC context.

Lol at your order, SC over Georgia? 1. Bama 2. Georgia 3. LSU 4. SC tie for 6. tOSU and Florida 8. A&M 9. Tenn 10. ArKANSAS

So glad we never have to worry about this actually occuring in real life but I would order the teams like William but switch OSU with South Carolina if their QB is healthy.

Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012

I think your on bath salts if you think were worse then Tennessee. I'd put us 4-6 this year in their conference Bama ahead of us for sure, Georgia too, I think we'd have close games with LSU  especially after they barely beat auburn, S Carolina, Miss St, and Florida. The close games I could see us going 2-2 or 1-3 vs those teams

Would like to hear how we'd have a close game with LSU and Carolina? LSU would destroy us and Carolina is better than we think they are.  I still think we are 7 or 8.

I could not disagree more on putting us at 8th in the SEC. I would say 2nd behind Bama we can definitly play with everybody else. Go Bucs!

South Carolina isn't that great. They're the SEC's version of MSU. Shaw can't stay healthy, Hell I'll be surprised if he ever plays 5 games in a row. They have a stud RB and D-line. If Auburn can give LSU a game so can we. I listed the teams that I think would still be more likely to beat us in a head-to-head match-up, and realistically I could see us tied with Florida at 4th.

I will say this (conservatively): I think 8 out of Tressel's 10 teams finish in the top 3 of the SEC.

Edit: I meant in the given year that they played. The margin for error is pretty high. If you look at the historical records on most years 3 losses is good enough for 3rd place.

It depends on the division.  If we're in the West, we'd finish 3rd in that division, if we were in the East, we'd finish no worse than 2nd.  Overall, maybe that makes us somewhere in the 3-5 range.  South Carolina and Florida are hard to read in my opinion.  They haven't shown me anything so far that indicates they're worthy of their ranking...particularly SC.  Same with Georgia.  Braxton Miller is sort of unstoppable.  The defense has been head-scratching, but I don't think that most SEC offenses are anything to write home about....some of the worst ranked offenses in the country last year, especially the East teams.

Definitely 5 or 6 this year. If you play ESPN sportcenter backwards, you'll hear them say we couldn't be better than 8th. It's true.

The real question is if the Browns could finish in top 3 of the SEC

I agree with William. Never said we would beat LSU or Carolina. Just play a close game with them. Especially after both played a close game with Vanderbilt and Auburn

I definitely would have them finishing 5th, many sec teams are heavily overrated just for playing in the sec.  I don't think Florida is very good at all, Georgia I think outside of Bama might be the very best.  South Carolina and Lsu IMO are frauds.

South Carolina and LSU are good teams just a little overrated in the polls for being in the SEC IMO

The SEC is good...but I do believe everyone will be surprised how many of these teams aren't ranked that high at years end besides Bama.  Mark my words...only other top ten team will be LSU or Georgia.  Only one of those two will end up there with Bama but not a 1 vs 2 again.  The BCS, ESPN and some other networks won't let it happen again because they want to make money of course.

And for the love of all that is holy, please put the Buckeyes above FL in your ratings guys.  FL and Tenn are both way overrated.  As well as South Carolina...trust me...you all see.  They're all gonna beat up on each other and each team will have 2 to 3 loses or more.

ill have to agree a lot of teams in the sec are given their rankings not because they are good teams but because of the confrence perception..honestly just about everyone in the sec are riding off of what bama lsu auburn and florida have done..i mean what big time bowl have anyone else brought home? arkansas lost to OSU..georgia throttled HAWAAI (SP?)..south carolina hasnt made a bcs game..tennessee hasnt been anything since..peyton manning? and then look at the rest of the conference..kentucky? vandy? miss state? ole miss? and dare i go so far as to say that the only reason auburn won the title was because they paid one of the greatest athletes in the past 20 years to come play for them? i guess what my point is there is a reason why you hear all these SEC SEC SEC chants from their fans and O-H-I-O chants from our fans..we hang our hats on what tOSU does as a team..while for some reason a lot of inferior sec teams feel some sense of entitlement when a team in their conference wins a big game simply because they are conference mates..and btw im drunk so disreguard this entire post.

Well i like college and i like football...and im gunna keep doin em both cause they make me feel good!!!

So this is where things get tough to predict.  Right now, the Buckeyes look pretty shaky.  Under Tressel, we were used to seeing his teams get better as the season wore on.  It is pretty common knowledge that Tressel teams were money in November.  Meyer is also a very good coach so I assume we will see the same improvement over the course of the season.  That was a lot of words to say that I think we will be playing much better football at season's end and likely (as the Freshman get more time in) would be part of that second tier of SEC teams.

With what we've seen out of these teams so far.

We are, without a doubt, behind Bama, LSU, South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi State and Florida. We'd battle Tennessee and A&M for those spots. Missouri and Auburn would also give us a run for our money. We are a .500 team in the SEC depending on who's schedule we would get.

I'd put OSU in the 6 spot.  Tennessee and Texas A&M are not better than this OSU team.
