trey johnson is apparently still looking around. he said ohio state and florida state are recruiting him the hardest, according to espn (insider). seems like osu and fsu are duking it out for some 11th hour linebacker heroics in the 2013 class. 247composite has him as 128 ranked player nationally, 4th ranked ILB and a 4 star prospect.
"(Trey) Johnson (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett) plans to visit other schools and has not revealed which ones, but said that Ohio State and Florida State are recruiting him the hardest, along with Auburn," Michael Carvell of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution wrote."

I have heard from multiple Auburn fans that the word is that everyone is over Gene Chizik and many feel that their National Championship* was won by the duo of Cam Newton and Gus Malzahn and had little to do with Chizik. Newton and Malzahn are gone and things aren't going so well for the Tigers. Chizik could be on the way out. So, this doesn't surprise me. If there is a shakeup, they could lose recruits.
*I do not recognize Auburn's title from 2010 for obvious reasons.
Tennbuck, is it because of sCam Newton? or his dad I should say?
I like football
You are correct sir.
I don't think this would qualify as 11th hour for the 2013 class, since it's still 5 months til signing day. A ton can and will happen with almost all the classes with losing guys etc before the dust settles
We are still heavy on Tyquan Lewis, Mike Mitchell, and Daniel McMillan also... If we get Lewis and Mitchell, do we really need/have space for these other guys in this class? Urban is freaking loading up the defense... If we aren't #1 in the country in overall defense in about 3 years I will be surprised. He is a B1G coach recruiting like he is in the SEC... I'm looking forward to the future...
This just in... Tim Brando and scUM still suck!
@buckeye06 - it was more in reference to the lack of quality, uncommitted linebackers in the 2013 class
More like a lack of any linebackers in the 2013 class at this point. If I recall correctly, Tyquan Lewis is announcing next week.
I'm with ya TennBuckeye. It's a "title" with a asterisk next to it. You can't buy your players and expect national recognition of a sham title game.
I also tend to look at Bama and LSU's titles in a similar manner. Hard to call it a legitimate title game when they had a decided competitive advantage before kickoff in the number of additional players they had signed when compared to their opponents. It's like playing in a Chess Tournament where the Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, and Auburn players have all Queen pieces on their side of the board while playing against opponents who have the standard set of Pawns, Rooks, Knights, etc.
NCAA, give us a level playing field and make everyone play and recruit by the same rules.
a decided advantage? am i missing something here? arent all teams allowed a max of 85 scholarships?
@ Buckeyestu
www.oversigning.com
ah the ole oversigning thing. yeah got that, however, a few SEC fans i work with, says it is all sour grapes by the inept big 10 fans. i have brought this to their attention previously. i must go to that web site. thank you razr, maybe i will get an understanding of this oversigning undecided advantage thingy. ot, btw, i see where 4 LSU players are academically inept, and done for the season? got to love that.
Sure, no problem -- the SEC clowns of course are going to call it sour grapes. Easy for them to say when they're racking up wins one after the other by playing by a completely different set of recruiting rules than their OOC opponents. Recruiting is the life blood of every program in the country. Tougher to compete for schools who can't just dismiss the underperformers at will like Saban likes to do.
The SEC recently adopted a few changes to their recruiting rules that will reduce their teams' abilities to oversign. They will still be able to oversign (cheat), just not quite as much. But check out this line from an article on that very topic:
http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2011/06/sec_adopts_roster_management_...
Oh btw Stu, if you click on "about" at the www.oversigning.com site, it has some good diagrams on how it works in the SEC as far as they have X number of budget for the upcoming recruiting year, let's say 15 because of graduating seniors -- most teams who don't oversign would sign somewhere around 15-18 in that case because most coaches generally know about a few kids in addition to the graduates who will be transferring, or are too injured to play, etc., but it sure is interesting on some of these SEC schools where they are oversigned by 5-10, and sometimes more kids where you absolutely know for a fact there isn't going to be that much natural attrition. Their plan is just to force the kids out the door as needed to make room for the next 5-star recruit that they hope will pan out better than the one they are forcing out.
I think this is foreshadowing bad news with Mike Mitchell
@Rural: could be, or just due dilligence. If we don't happen to get Mitchell everyone will be complaining that Urban is trying hard enough or something. Well he has a "backup" plan by continuing to pursue people who are committed, but are still a bit open to exploring other options. So if we get Mitchell, we probably don't continue to pursue people like Trey (or at least not as much).
i think urban likely tells most recruits that it's first come first serve (except the likes of vonn bell / dorian johnson, etc.) meaning they will recruit any and all student athletes they'd like on their team until the door closes.
I am all up for keeping hte options open and having first come first serve. I don't want kids to committ to early, but I want them to feel it is an honor to play forthe Bucks and want it.
First come first serve of Trey, Mitchell, Lewis, and Mcmillian is fine with me. I'd be pleased with any 2 of the 4 (seems like it might end up being first of Trey, Mitchell, and Mcmillian to commit once Lewis commits on the 20th). Not saying Urb could get all these guys if he wants to, but they seem to have at leat some interest
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
