Thought they looked good this week vs UCF. I'd like to see them throw a little more and not give Braxton not as many carries solely because he looks like he's getting beat up out there. Don't want him to take too much of a beating and risk an injury. Any other opinions?

Every time he was tackled I would cringe. Love the TD runs though!
How Firm Thy Friendship....

The offense is great except for the excessive carries for Braxton and the lack of passes down the field. I love Boren getting the rock.

We need a healthy, fast and strong RB... and coach Miller up a bit to throw downfield and spread the defense out. I was not happy with their performance today, it's still a big work in progress and a lot more has to come out of this team to regain any kind of recognition.

One thing that really stood out to me and quite irritated me was the fact that we didn't throw it deep once
^^agree.
Receivers and the line are average at best. Hard to throw deep when o-line using the matador blocking technique and receivers cannot separate.Pray for Miller to stay healthy or this is going to be a baaaaaaaaad offense. Can't wait for Marshall and Elliot to get here to bring some elusiveness to the skill positions.
I put this on another board, but, I was sitting in the north stands and it was obvious that UCF was intent on taking away the deep ball. The safeties played deep on every play and they would drop linebackers as well. The safeties also did a great job of flying up at the first sign of run.
The play action may have been there, but a drop back deep ball was not. The only time anyone was open down the field was the pick. Braxton overthrew fields by a good 10 yards. It appeared that Braxton was trying to hit him where he was instead of leading him. If Braxton heaves it down the field Brown might have scored.
I feel the offense took a step backwards IMHO. Philly needs to get the ball more and Braxton has to run it less times or he's going to be hurt by the time B1G play starts (I realize they're sort at RB...not my point btw before someone comments). I'm happy with a win, but I agree with Meyer's press conference and I don't think he's trying to motivate with his determination of where this team is at this moment. I really thought that OSU would continue from where they left off last week...not so much. The Defense also took a step backwards too as far as not rushing the QB. Things need worked on and I'm sure they will be...

The offense is just fine for me. Of course I want Brax to run the ball less but our top two RBs are out. It didn't really appear to me that anything was there downfield. The offense still looks like it has its anticipated growing pains, there were several just broken plays where Braxton just had to take off running because of a miscommunication and the play was busted. That's fixable stuff when everyone gets more comfortable and experienced in a brand new offense. The only thing that really stopped our offense was us. Broken plays/miscommunications, a few penalties and a couple bad turnovers. Yet we still put up 31 on what very well could be one of the better defenses we're going to see all year.
I feel like our offense is like having the keys to a Ferrari that is running on 6 cylinders. The potential is there, but needs some work.
The d has me mystified, especially the lack of pressure and communication.
I re-watched the game with UCF and it seems like we looked really good or really bad with nothing in between. I think this is a good sign (at least I hope) since the potential is there, but we need more time to work out the kinks.
What happened to play-action? I wanted to see on 4th and 1 a play-action deep play. I just haven't felt much so far on offense yet. I want to see the long balls, and the variation in plays. I felt like everything was a slant or a boot.
Agree with comments above. We didn't stretch the field once and Miller is taking way too many hits. Bullshit he is our only option. No doubt he is the best player on the field, but we had a full offseason to develop other things. Where is the TE go to plays that Meyer uses so well. What about something underneath to Philly. No screens? Herman calls the plays. Hoping he is not showing most of the play book yet.
looks likw they have been trying to keep it too basic. I understand not wanting to look like RR and TTUN, but ... COME ON! BE CREATIVE!!!
Buckeye in PA purgatory
I can't stand how the running backs are getting so little carries.
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
The running backs need to be able to run the play that is called first before they can get more carries. Running into Braxton doesn't help...
Think its funny ppl hated Tressel's offense, now they are already complaining that the QB is running the ball too often...The spread-option offense does in fact feature the QB as the primary runner.
Well that Ross, would be the nature of Buckeye fans, never satisfied with wins, and always finding something to complain about.
Not 27 carries Ross, not in any spread. You guys will complain when he is beat up and on the sidelines by week 7.

I don't think Ross was being literal lol. The RBs need to step up is all he meant. I don't think anyone wants him taking 27 carries a game.
He is as gifted a player as I have seen in a long time. Will win a Heisman if he continues to improve his throwing and we don't get him killed.
History has shown us that you don't have to have a good throwing mechanics in order to win the Heisman.
Another genius with a countering opinion. There will be more more Eric Crouch guys. renown had bad mechanics but enough to throw 20TD. 20 and 20 is the new benchmark. Hell, Miller may do that this year.
Two best comments, IMO, from Bolt (at 4:22 pm) and Ross (at 9:30 pm): too many penalties, disjointed plays, RBs not sure which way the play was going. Otherwise, the offense took what was available and was only stopped by itself.
UCF was geared up to stop the inside power (they had two big stout DTs) and deeper passes. If they're going to give you 8 yards on 1 down, you take it. Several completions would have been big gains except UCFs DBs in deep zone were very good at closing after Smith or Philly Brown made the first guy miss. After the bad INT, Braxton's second worst throw (behind the receiver in the dirt) was on an intermediate crossing route that would have gone for 25+ yards.
Braxton made two awesome throws on checkdowns in the flat, one to Boren, one to Philly, I think - quick decision, right on time, on the money. Boren's went for like 13 yards on 3rd and 8, maybe.
