First off just wanna state I'm excited were 4-0. After watching the first 4 games I feel as though we've run a lot of base offense with not a lot of mixing it up throwing the ball down field or creative plays (e.g. using both quarterbacks in a formation like Urban had hinted to earlier). I did like how he gave Braxton the ability to audible at the line and make more reads. I feel Urban has been saving much of his playbook for Big Ten play especially teams like Mich St Nebraska Wisc and scUM. I'm hoping we can spread the Spartans out this week and have the pass open up the run since they are very tough to run against defensively. We also need our receivers to step up this week and cut out the dropped passes that happened last week. Any thoughts?

Dropped passes are a problem, but the poor tackling is what has me worried most. Guys who should be stopped for no gain or a loss of yardage are instead getting 5 or more yards. If we are to have any chance against michigan states running game the first guy to the ball HAS to at the very least hold the guy up until more help arrives to drive him backwards. One thing I've noticed is that the offensive player always seems to fall forward instead of being pushed back by our defense. I expect Braxton to have a big game throwing the ball this week, hopefully like you said Urban has been saving quite a few plays for this game.

I have been saying this for the past 2 weeks. He HAS to be holding back some of the playbook. I feel like I keep seeing the same plays over and over again and I hope its not because thats as much as our players are able to understand...
They've had to have been holding back. They will certainly use the plays (at least I hope they do) where Braxton hits his targets, the receivers catch the ball, and everyone blocks correctly. Along of course with the defensive plays that get the opposition tackled quickly. Personally would love to see those plays called. And I think they will be.
Let's get the tight ends involved more. Let's get Stoney involved more --- Stoney is strong on those deep seem routes down the middle.
Horizontal routes won't work well against a laterally fast Defense like MSU.

Everyone is acting like we score 2 points a game and trip over our own feet when we run more than 3 yards downfield on offense. The offense is fine, just a little inconsistant. We are avaraging almost 38 points a game right now for God's sake and our SOPHOMORE QB is in the Heisman discussion. Think about where this offense was last year and try to compare it to this year's offense. It's not even close. We have scored evey single time we have needed to this year so I don't see where the negitivity is coming from. Of course Urban is holding back for the big games, almost all coaches do. Cheer Up people we are 4-0.
I feel like Stoney would be more of an offensive threat inside as a TE because he would typically be covered by a LB whereas flexed out in the slot he's covered by a faster corner or safety. However he is a hell of a blocker flexed out and his blocking can help our run game immensely
I believe they are holding back some, and I don't blame them, why show our hand when its not league play, unless its against a good team....Hopefully now that B1G play is about to start, we'll open up our bag of tricks.
I have to be honest I have not paid one second of attention to the offensive line but I feel they have been playing fairly decent so far. Out of all the ways people piss and moan on this site (including me), the O-Line has been left alone thus far. To me this is a good sign since I feel this part of the team has been the achilles ever since the Florida game. Does anyone have any feedback on how they are playing this year that has been paying attention?
From what I've seen the O line has played pretty well this year. Meyer said at the presser this week Fragel had his best game up to date and the other 4 look pretty solid. We have over 150 yards of total rushing each game. We've given up 6 sacks in 4 games which isn't bad considering I remember a few of those were coverage/ Braxton holding the ball too long. On a side note we don't have Shugarts false starting every series as well
In my opinion, it doesn't matter if they are holding anything back. What matters most to me is that this team has not yet shown that they are fundamentally sound and mentally prepared.
I think the team we have this year is still in Tresell mode, which is not a bad thing, but is a more emotion controlled team, except for the obvious a few. Couple that with Miller's cool, calm and collected personally and we have a team that does not have the intensity that Meyer wants. The amazing thing about tihis is Miller has the ability to turn that fire and intensity on, almost at will, as we have witnessed all year. When he does that, the whole team responds and we see everything we ever imagined and more. Hopefully now that conference play is upon us, that fire will be more consistent and we will be on our way to a great season.
Pssst, it's a completely new scheme and there will be some growing pains. It's only week 4 and you can only simulate game play so much to get the offense ready. Give them some time. You have to walk before you run. They are at a slow jog right now.
They've added a little more each week. I'm hopeful that they come out playing focused from the kickoff and not wait until the second qtr as they seem to have done with the non-conference foes. Focus, some new plays, Brax changing calls at the line......if the D can stop Maxwell, allowing it to concentrate on Bell, we win by more then 2 TDs and we are all much less concerned.
