Did anyone else hear that near the end of the game that Urban retained the DC at every new stop? BGSU, Utah, Florida, and tOSU. The only way for Brent to be correct would be if Urban kept on Heacock, not Fickell. What was the reasoning Heacock didn't stay on board?

Yeah doesn't make sense. Heacock was D-coordinator last season.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
I don't know if he was named as such, but Fickell was an interim head coach last year. And last year Paul Haynes was a co-defensive coordinator with Heacock. Prior to that, Fickell and Heacock were Co-Defensive Coordinators under Tressel. I don't know why Heacock wasn't retained, but with Fickell having been a coordinator under Tressel (at least in title, I'm not sure if he actually called the defensive schemes or if it was Heacock), Urban did retain a defensive coordinator from the Tressel regime when he kept Fickell.
I thought Heacock told Urban he wanted to retire. Also thought he was saying a few years back he wanted to retire.
That was just a screwup by Musburger. Heacock didn't decide to retire until a few weeks after he was let go. I don't think he found anything he really wanted so he just decided to hang it up.
Luke Fickell was the co-defensive coordinator alongside Jim Heacock the last 5 years of Jim Tressel's tenure. So Musberger is still correct in his statement. Heacock is almost 65 years old, I doubt he wanted to completely build a new coaching staff synergy after working with the more or less the same people for 6 years.
Also Fickell was OSU's recruiting coordinator under Tressel, so Urban probably wanted to keep him to maintain relations with coaches in-state. By all accounts, the players love Fickell as well so keeping him is also one way to help ease a coaching transition.
Eh, perhaps on the technicality of their titles. I think most folks would agree that Heacock was the DC. Luke was just given a title to further his career and maybe helped do some gameplanning during the week. Heacock was the man on defense.
I always thought Urban let Heacock go because he didn't think he could/would get the job done on the recruiting trail. But that was more of a read between the lines thing then anything I actually read or heard.
I had read/heard for a few years that Heacock was wanting to retire. I believe the Dispatch even quoted that in an article about him 2 or 3 years ago. I also don't put much stock in anything that Musburger says anymore. With some of the oddball comments he makes, it's obvious he's not just repeating what is heard through his earpiece.
How many times did we have to hear Honey Badger last year, my god!
^^^ Or "MOXIE"
But I do love " You are looking live"
I'm shocked that anyone even listens to Musberger. I just tune him out. Even with the West Coast bias, I miss Keith Jackson.
I was just about to create a post about this. I am severely doubting fickell's and withers' mental chops to be DC-ing for a team like OSU. Heacock and dantonio clearly ran that defense like straight up bosses in the 00's but i am just not seeing that this year. too many underneath completions and too many missed tackles issues i feel hould have been addressed prior after the first game and you can go so far as to say there are no excuses for missed tackles at any point in the season. We have the athletes, that i am almost sure of but do we have the defensive minds in the coaching booth to have a defense like in 2002 or 2005
