When you say "alcohol involved", do you mean going to a bar? Or do you mean tail-gating? If you men tailgating, then try parking on-campus, north of the river. It's winding streets, but I have always found parking there. Near Beaumont tower (fairly obvious). Their mArching band has the 2nd best thing (I hate buckys 5th qtr) besides skull session. It's on the band practice field, right by the bridge that crosses over the the stadium, by the Sparty statue. Their drum section is one of the best in college band-dom, and they put on a good pre and post game performance.
Their grounds are very nice on the north side of the river, and I have always met good fans/ tailgaters there.
What I mention to you is about what they have to offer that is unique to MSU's college tradition/ campus experience. Otherwise, go to one of the many bars on Grand Av., or park in one of the fields south of the stadium.

I'm heading up will be in one of those many bars before and after!

Hey Bucknut, I'm a grad student here at MSU. It's a great place. Make sure to get there early, often times if your arrive before 9 you can find parking at Erickson Hall Visitor lot for FREE! It's right next to the stadium. Due to Espn gameday being up here, I suggest you arrive before 9am, this place is going to get crazy, and if you have to take interstate 96 to get here, please take my advice...if not you may have extreme difficulty in finding parking due to traffic. Let me know if you need anything else. Go Bucks!
The most fun I've had on a road game came wearing a Ginn jersey in the middle of the msu student section getting heckled like crazy the first half and watching them all leave at halftime because Troy had us up 3 scores. Fun place. Better looming chicks than Ann arbor and much more down to party.
Did my undergrad and law school at MSU, still live in the area but don't get to campus as much.
Best bars:
1) Crunchy's - buckets of food and beer (must have 4 ppl to get a bucket of beer), great selection of beer. The food is cheap and mostly awful for you, if you don't like it, drink more.
2) Peanut Barrel - strong long islands, good burgers
3) The Riv - typical college bar, lots of dancing drunk people, cheap beer
4) Dublin Square - more laid back/up-scale Irish pub
If you are younger and like frat/sorority hang outs, go to Ricks or the Landshark to end your night
Best eats:
1) Menna's (when drunk) - it's grilled wraps, delish! Two locations, one on either side of campus
2) Reno's -big menu of food, good selection of beer, I recommend the pretzel bun turkey sandwhich
3) Pizza House - great big menu, everything is good, this is where you'll find friendly alumni, parents of the players go here after the game a lot, they are open late

Thanks for the post Bucksfan. I'm heading to East Lansing tomorrow afternoon as part of a group of 10. I've never been there before either but my old OSU roommate works for MSU now so I'm hoping she has some insight on where to go.
Cya there Bucknut!

Crunchies is a great spot for some of the best Michigan microbrews. Great selection.
Downtown Lansing is really fun for after hours as well. Tons of great bars and hang outs along Michigan Ave.
Crunchy's was always my favorite bar, never too crowded, great atmosphere with all the writings/carvings on the booths, great beer selection, good cheap food. I have had some of my best times drinking a bucket of beer with friends there.

Any suggestions on where we can park overnight? Meaning arrive at 9am and leave 9am Sunday?
Commuter lot - At the corner of Hagadorn and Service Rd. (South East corner of campus) - far walk to the game though (maybe 2miles?)
There is a Sears across from campus up on the north west corner of campus, closer walk to the stadium and Gameday set - I used to have all my Ohio friends park there as your car with OH plates will be off campus and out of potential harms way (but honestly that shouldn't be a worry, it just used to be when I was young and thought it was)
Where are you gonna stay?

Frandor is a good spot to walk from and very doubtful that you'll get towed. East Lansing Police are real "richards" and they'll give you ticket at every opportunity. I'll be parking at the Dunhams just East of Frandor. It fills up quick because its a very short distance from the campus and stadium.
Anybody Tailgating at MSU this weekend?
The Sears in Frandor is exactly where I'd recommend people to park. There is also a hotel over there. Not sure if it's a comfort inn or what but it's the one of the few near campus.

Ok awesome guys. I think we will just try the Sears lot. We havent been able to find a hotel or anything so we are prolluy just gonna sleep in tha car lol
Boy this really good info as it will be the first time to East Lansing for my father, brother and I. I feel so empowered with knowledge.
Damn dude. I'm actually going to Ohio this weekend because it's my birthday and I'm visiting family, but I'd let you crash at my place if I were around. Shouldn't have to sleep in your car man. That's hardcore fandom though.

Well, how'd it go for everybody? Interested to see where everyone went and how things were.

Me and my Dad had a great time. We went to college game day then went to their BW's and watched games till the game started. I was suprized just how many buckeye fans were there. Another thing i found interesting was the noise of their stadium. The first couple weeks Ohio Stadium took some flack but honestly we were louder duing the Maimi and UCF game then Spartan stadium was for a big ten match up. I really was not impressed.Only on a couple key third downs could i not hear braxton clap his hands. Other then that i could hear it just fine ( i was in the upper deck). Overall though i thought the MSU fans were pretty respectful.
