Sparty has QB issues. Maxwell just isn't very good.
That being said, Maxwell is also the kind of dude who will play lights out 1 game a year, and it will be against OSU.
Bell at RB and Adams at DB are both superb.
I don't think Sparty is much different from last year's Sparty team, except they got Maxwell at QB, instead of Cousins. After their Game vs Notre Dame, I'd say ND has improved quite a bit over last year. ND's defense looks much better, and I wouldn't be suprised to see ND beat Michig*n next week.
Hate to say this, but I hope TSUN beats ND. But not by much. Also hope that their fans are throwing remeote controls at the TV because of bonehead plays on both sides. What are the chances that Kelly will go purple in this game?
If we can execute and cut down on mistakes on both sides of the ball we're plenty fine against MSU. We have more answers for them than they do for us IMO. The probability of us executing and playing mistake free against a very good defense is unlikely so who knows. You just have to keep looking at Brax as the difference maker that can break the game open. I don't think they have that (even including Bell).
With the way we tackle RBs, expect Bell to have a big game vs us. Braxton is going to have to throw often and quickly to avoid getting smashed by that D-line of theirs... going to be a very tough game for us.
Bigelow from Cal went for 160 on 4 carries... I think running straight at us isnt as daunting as people think. Get through the D-line and if Shazier gets blocked, who knows how big of a run Bell will have.
I said coming into the year I didn't see what the big deal was about Sparty. Their D was good last year and returned a lot, but I never felt they were elite. I thought they would be worse than last year because they lost their senior QB(who was average at best) and their best receiver and playmaker from last year. So a team with a mediocre offense got worse. They'll lose a couple more games in conference.
I'm concerned about our abiliy to run the ball against their dline. Other than that there isn't much to worry about. Only way they run on us is on the perimeter IMO.
@from, there were a few backs that had success against us last year as well, but Ball was not one of them. Wisconsin played right into the strength of last year's LB squad who had by far their best game of the season. MSU's attack reminds me much more of Wiscy than Cal, and Bell is much more like Ball than Bigelow. They will need Maxwell to be effective to have a chance against the Buckeyes. I'll say it again, Buckeyes win in E Lansing by 10-14 pts.
Bigelow wasn't running between the tackles and is a speedier back. MSU is going to try to cram their bruiser down our throat and I think that's one thing that will be a strength of ours. When teams are running out on the edge we have to worry about contain and pursuit angles and tackling in the open...which after watching last game clearly isn't our forte. I think we can do some things to burn them on their pressure and Braxton's athleticism can burn them if they're overcommitted on getting to him in the backfield.
I've also watched John Hankins and Garret Goebel play like men on the inside so far this year and no one really challenge us running right up the middle on us. The few times I have seen it it has not worked.
I agree that we have a fighting chance in East Lansing; provided we play all 4 quarters. I wasn't impressed with MSU's play on either side of ball. Ball is potent, but can be contained. ND proved that yesterday and we showed it is possible last year. Maxwell has a good arm, but if we get pressure on him he'll make mistakes. It'll be interesting to see the matchup between the blitz and containing Bell. As far as their defense goes, I don't think ND's offense is that good, and they managed to get the job done. I think Braxton, if he is free to roam, will give them fits.
To control Bell, I hope the coaches cheat a safety up, on the JT Moore/Sabino side of the defense, to give support...... that side was folded more times than an origami swan vs Cal.
I feel about the same as I did last week about our chances up there - maybe a little better. The Big Ten is at a major low point right now. While OSU has played like an 8 win team so far, the competition is so bad that they can still win 10. Even MSU has been exposed, but in many ways, so were the Buckeyes. I don't know, I'd say our chances of winning up there are about 60%.
I didn't think MSU's O-Line looked very good last night either. Ohio State has a lof of problems and doesn't look great, but they could beat MSU. I think the first L comes at the hands of Nebraska, I'm not feeling good about that game at all.
I like and respect Izzo, but hate playing against him. I used to really like Dantonio, especially when he was an assistant @ OSU, but he has fallen out of favor with me over the years, although his recent domination of UM and his comments about them have been quite funny.
I hate to say it - but I think ND is coming up again. All that recruiting starting to pay off. Beetface sucks...but he can coach football. However - their schedule is just too tough & they will lose a couple this year..

If Maxwell has a miracle day throwing, I see us losing this game. He didn't look as good as advertise during the MSU-ND game. Lets hope for similar results.

Bell is their offense. Need to force him inside where help will be (well, where Ohio State's LBs will be)... Id expect MSU to run it close to 40 times against us, really will depend on inside LB play as they will double down on Hankins quite a bit. Heres to hoping Curtis Grant gets his head out of his rear.

If Michigan State is the best team in the Big Ten, then as we already know, the Big Ten is very weak this year.
Buckeyes win by 10-14 pts
Either ND is finally ND again or wow is our conference weak this year. I was not impressed at all by that game.
Hate to say this, but I hope TSUN beats ND. But not by much. Also hope that their fans are throwing remeote controls at the TV because of bonehead plays on both sides. What are the chances that Kelly will go purple in this game?

^^^ I expect Bell to have a game similar to the game Montee Ball had last year. If they try to run straight at us they will fail.

This isn't 2007 when basically no one could run right up the middle on us..or run on us period.

Teams are better off running on the outside I will say that. I'm more confident in our Run stuffing then coverage.

Hate Dantonio. It's hard not to like Izzo. Can't say one thing bad about him.
As far as the Sparty game, go get 'em, Buckeyes. Curb Stomp them!
