He keeps it very close to the vest, so up until now, not even the experts knew who his true favorites were. In fact, only his father was doing interviews about his college choices, and would only mention who was pursuing him the hardest.
If OSU and UT are his favorites, then purely by the law of averages, you have to feel good about either him or Bell. Right? Right?
He only scheduled 2 officials so far right? UT and TOSU? If thats the case, I love our chances with North and Bell. Dooley is a idiot, He'll do something to throw away this season and be gone.
@Johnblair: I said this a long time ago...it's just a matter of time...and wins. Which Meyer will inevitably bring. Like Alex says...All He Does is Win with that lovely song as the accompaniment;-)

Frankly, I think North is one of the most underrated prospects in this class. I know that sounds absurd since he ranked so highly already, but I think he is a special talent and would be the player I would be most excited about in the 2013 class, if we were able to land him. I'm not trying to go all Waycracken-Timmons, but I would take him over any of the other wideouts that we still have on our board. I have them ranked 1. North 2. Quick 3. Gibson, I would have Foster tied or slightly behind Quick but I just don't see him in this class. Also, I realize there may be other guys out there considering OSU or being considered by the staff, my little list is just of guys I personally hope we land. The fact he is going to take an official is huge. I live in SEC country and I have a bunch friends who are pissed about the news that he is taking an official here. That said they aren't all together surprised because they remember this stuff happening every year when Urban was at Florida. Although it seems Quick is favoring Louisville at this point if we are able to land any two of North, Quick, Foster, and Gibson to go along with Marshall and Austin we will be very lucky. If that happens it would be safe to say that Urban found some "playmakers" at wideout in this class. Thats not to disparage the current guys on the roster because I have been pretty impressed and happy with how they have played so far this season!
I for sure would want James Quick over everyone else in the nation. I have seen him play twice live. It is truly amazing. Scored 7 total touchdowns in those two games.
lets say that quick, gibson, north, allen, stevens, and larue, do not commit to tosu, does urban bank that scholarship to use for 2014, or is there maybe another player that might get the scholarship?
I think we have to get one more playmaker in this class... Jacobs is going to surprise some people and Marshall is going to be a stud once he gets adjusted to being a hybrid type player. I'd rather have North out of everyone, but I would take any of them. I think we need at least 8 really good WR's to run this offense. I'd like to see our offense run like Oregon in a couple of years.
To expand on what you're saying above, we have playmakers in this class. What we don't have is a traditional deep threat playmaker. You can only put so many slot guys on the field. Most top tier teams have at least one WR that's capable of catching that deep pass every time it's thrown, and we need those guys in this class.
North is the guy you want to break up the type of WR's we are looking at. I think Gibson can be more than a slot guy. I'd rather have Quick though of all of them.
Just a question, but why such the emphasis on the size of the WR? I mean we do have a team full of bigger WRs now. Look at Oregon, if their the model, they don't have a "big" WR, look at West Virginia, they throw the ball a ton, and their best WR is 5'10 maybe. How tall was T.Glenn? Just because their not above 5'10 I don't think we should automatically pigeon hole them into the slot. Look at S.Smith for the Panthers. I'm all for taking the fastest players that are good that want to come aboard.
If anyone watched the Browns game on Sunday, the Rodgers-Cromartie matchup against Travis Benjamin should answer than question. Not a great scheme sending Benjamin out wide, but if all you have is slot guys, who do you use wide to spread the field? If a guy is 5'10'', more often than not he's an easy single cover, and you're wasting a weapon.
Getting WR's with base skills and speed is one thing, if they don't have that they can be 7'2" and it doesn't matter. The thing that can take a WR over the top is his size. A WR like CJ is over the top because of the combination of size, speed, and skills. It's good to have a mix of size and speed or even better, both, to have more options. A 5'10" isn't going to outjump a safety most liely for a ball. That is why TE's usually get the shots in the redzone in the corner, or a larger WR.
Simply put, if the guy has no WR skils who cares? But if you can get two WR's with similar skills but one has 4" on the other... you'd be stupid not so see a different in potential.
I don't really follow the Browns, but I never really truly remember T.Benjamin being a great player. I just think we are getting carried away w/the whole size deal. I want GREAT players, I don't care how tall they are. Of course all things being equal give me the taller/bigger guy.
Just for another comparison we have the big T.Williams, but who is our most productive WR? How tall is he again? No trying to be an a**hole, but football players come in all different shapes, and sizes.
If you are 5'11 and have a 40" vertical i think you would take that over the 6'3" with a 30" vertical. If you have a 5'11" 4.3 i would take that over the 6'3" 4.6.
Dooley and Tennessee, I hope you both bomb this year!
i really really like north... football player who is insanely athletic 5 star on max for what its worth
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
This would be a huge get for OSU.
How serious is he about us? Alex? Derek? What's the situation?
We were in his top 4, the biggest concern with him is that he wants to wait to NSD to sign but many doubt we will have any room left by then.
over 4 months till NLOI day, with each victory this season, OSU's appeal to recruits is getting nourished.
He keeps it very close to the vest, so up until now, not even the experts knew who his true favorites were. In fact, only his father was doing interviews about his college choices, and would only mention who was pursuing him the hardest.

I just want Bell!! Kid is a freak athlete. I hope we still are going to use him like Chris Gramble!
so is this the kid from north carolina right?

timmons will get it most likely

Hahaha that was the most leading question ive ever heard
think urban should bank them myself.

i think north is that guy, fwiw i think hes the best in this class

I definitely think he's better than Foster. Not sure about Seals-Jones though
North is the guy you want to break up the type of WR's we are looking at. I think Gibson can be more than a slot guy. I'd rather have Quick though of all of them.
I asked Tim Brando and he doesn't think we have a shot... He said he has a reliable source on it..

Bama: Oregon has never made it over the hump. Though, I would say that comes more often from their crappy defense.

I want Kief in 2014 because I think he could be a solid WR. He is 6'6...

Benjamin was a top tier slot receiver, who if I recall correctly, burned us a few times.
