Mark May and Desmond Howard could make a life together doing their thing. If they would only go far away somewhere and do it would be great. They could be each others hero.

May is a moron. Simply put, they did what they needed to do and we will find out went they play more games. Mays is a biased and frankly un-intelligent, but at least Holtz made the right points and he got the Pitt knock in there. Good man Holtz!

Holtz is hilarious. May just hates Ohio State and that's how he'll always be. Who cares?  I think we could have looked a little better. We started off slow, but we got our legs under us and ran away from a solid MAC team with an NFL caliber QB leading them.  One guy said it earlier, Dysert was the best QB we will face all season.  It's good we faced him week one, maybe to sort of humble our secondary. They will play better as a unit after facing Dysert.

Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.

^I'll take credit for that. Anyway, it was nice watching Holtz destroy Mark May, nice tie and handkerchief too.

What kills me is when he said that there is a reason this team is ineligible for post season play like that has any bearing on their skill this season.  I dont necessarily disagree that there is a lot of football yet to be played before we are anointed as elite but his argument is so stupid and fat urkel is so dumb and ugly.

Absolutely hilarious.  Lou was pissed through the last second of that segment.  Although May is the King of Douches, I didn't completely disagree with him.  That game definitely did not show us as an elite team.  Let's see what happens when we open up B1G play at Sparty.  That should give us a crystal clear picture of where this football team really is.  Miami easily could've made the game much closer if not for the 100 dropped balls they had.  They were running 6-7 yard outs all day long - just like Florida did to us in the NCG.  If we can't handle their WR's one on one up at the line,  something's wrong.  Our secondary scares the bejeebers out of me.  Maybe I'm being a little dramatic, I don't know.

The source of Mark May's butthurt

Mark May is a sports analyst. Sports analysts are supposed to know the game (which he does), they are supposed to be able to look deep into the game enough to know the strengths and weaknesses of teams, and how they change on a weekly basis (which he does), and lastly, they HAVE TO BE UNBIASED (which, of course, he is very far from).

On a weekly basis, he picks teams that he likes the best to pull out wins and ADMITS that he hates Ohio State. How does a guy like this get to be on ESPN? Don't waste your money on his book, but if you get the chance to read it for free, give it a look. It shows him for what he truly is: a back-stabbing and egotistical piece of garbage.

Ban ESPN until Mark May is replaced. Their football analysts are full of Ohio State athletes... Have you ever wondered why ESPN would load up on Ohio State talent for analysts, and then put someone like Mark May on TV with NONE of those Buckeyes around him? May would be DOGMEAT, so they have to throw in a 100 year old man to argue with him. Imagine what the show would be like if they teamed May up even with Herbie and Robert Smith. If they put any other Bucks up against May, May just might get himself hurt....

I wouldn't want May with Herbie.  Herbie is sold on all things SEC and has pretty much seperated himself from the Buckeyes, so he would agree with May on everything.

I think Mark May has acknowledged his bias. He really does not like our fans and we don't like him and it's become that kind of relationship. ESPN seems ok with it because it's kind of like a gimmick of his. Part of the reason he does it is it gets our fanbase, one of the largest in the country, riled up and active on ESPN interfaces, whether it be their site, their twitters, their TV programming. Pissing off Buckeye fans has been proven to be good for reactions and ratings.

But yeah both May and Holtz are idiots and they're entertaining to watch. They're both completely biased on both ends and extraordinarily defensive about it.

At least Holtz doesn't show an open bias against anyone...he's just biased in favor of the teams he likes. May is openly biased against OSU as well as a couple others... Liver wurst?

Well...if you take of the S&G glasses, May is right.  OSU's D was getting abused early in the game, and a bunch of drops, that Big X receivers won't drop, made the win look better than it was.  So, from what I saw yesterday, OSU is not elite.

However, they can quickly become so because the team is so young.  So few seniors on the field makes the future bright, and Holtz should have made that point.  There are growing pains to young teams but those young players learn so much from their first game to their 5th game it's astounding to watch.  If they develop how we all expect them to, this team could be elite by the time they walk out of Spartyville

Hey don't talk shit about Trev Alberts! lol, he's an alum from my HS... I thought the school I currently go to was going to pull that upset Sat!  (UNI over Wisky)  close.  They'll beat Iowa though.  Amazing since UNI had to replace 11 starters off last years team.

I think it's a given that the game doesn't prove a thing.  It was a stupid point to debate.  The fun was watching Holtz throw digs at May.

" I'm finally glad you won one because you sure didn't won on the field with Pittsburgh"-Holtz

I'm not saying we will be 12-0 or  bad but I'm in the middle of the two extremist. Miami was a cupcake and one of the players said in article on the ESPN Buckeyenation they were only playing at 75%. However, OSU showed that it won't talk long before they reach their elite status again. Both might have been smart by reserving their judgement until week 5 after the MSU game.

May said we were an average team. To say so means he saw something to say that and he didnt. The right answer is, we don't know yet. For may to say we are not is biased one way and Holtz to say we are shows our bias the other direction. At least Holtz is nice bias, mays is deep hatred for no reason.

I thought the question was "Is Ohio State a budding elite team" not "are they elite now". Of course they are not elite right now although I think scrap that first quarter and this team can easily be considered elite. I get to go to the UCF game next week and they are a much better team. We'll see how they do for a full 4 quarters.

Mark May is a dick! You can say the team is not quite there yet or you think they are a long way to go without sounding like an a-hole! Not to mention he totally screwed up a stat. It wasn't 42 carries for 41 yards by Miami, they had -1 yards total! He needs to get his head out of his ass before he tries to embelish his hate upon our ears!

Please refrain from showing that man on this site in the future! We do not need to experience that man anymore than what is unfortunately necessary each week!

Seems to me they (espn) were reaching to get that final verdict out there. They want our fan base pissed off so the viewership will increase to watch the idiot. They have lost many OSU viewers in the past several months. The all-access helped and now starting this drama at the beginning of the season will get it going the other direction in their eyes.

That whole segment was set up for May to whine about Ohio State.  The question really was could Ohio State be undefeated and thus a people's champion.  May was too busy avoiding the question with inane stories about Liverwurst, complaining about the Big Ten, and trying to bring up sanctions.  It was all a tactic to avoid saying that the combination of an unusually weak schedule plus a reinvigorated team means Ohio State has a chance to go undefeated.

The whole question is moot if Ohio State cannot go undefeated.  All May really had to do was bring up road trips to MSU and Wisconsin and say he didn't think we could win them both and he would have had an acceptable and valid argumnt.  Instead he once again exposed himself as a fool with an agenda.  Holtz saw through it and called him on it.  It was glorious.  It reminded me of the Sugar Bowl when Holtz laughed at May while he was getting booed and chanted at by Buckeye fans.

I, too, was thinking the whole premise of the debate was stupid. It's the first week of the season  -- why even pose such a question. ESPN just does this to get people going.
