I haven't watched it in over a year or so, but I caught it this morning. ESPN's College GameDay has become a glorified SEC recruitment special. I particularly loathed the fact that "Texas A&M instantly became a recruitment competitor with LSU and Alabama, instead of TCU and Baylor." Texas A&M?! Mizzou?! What a crock!
Plus, what was that bullsh*t commentary about FSU playing Savannah State, and how this simply will not be tolerated once college football goes to a playoff format? And Fowler saying how those games should never count, how those statistics accumulated in that game should never count, and how it should be an exhibition? And Herbie sitting there concurring smugly. WHERE THE HELL HAVE THEY BEEN FOR THE PAST DECADE WHEN EVERY SEC TEAM PLAYS AN FCS SCHOOL IN NOVEMBER?!?!?!

Wow. I had the exact same sentiment this morning. Work is slow so I flipped it on and the homerism is blatant. I can maybe give them the benefit of the doubt because its two SEC teams playing and I haven't watched this show in years, but man this is just so obvious.
Corso looks and talks like a guy who is way to old to be doing this too....really a bad production all around.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
I haven't watched Gameday or any college football parts of Sportscenter for ten years. The favoring of some teams and conferences and denigration of others turned me off it for ever.
Remember the TV contracts has something to do with this. The BTN if it had a large audience would be considered even worse at showing bias. The BTN is an unfortunate failure so the Big is stuck with the hand it dealt itself.
Kirk Herbstreit is the WORST of the bunch! That's what bothers me the most.

Kirk Herbstreit is by far the best college football analyst there is.
GABUCKEYE: I couldn't disagree more.
Deep breathes everyone. my god. A&M and florida is a pretty big matchup. and honestly. i thought the A&M crowd this morning was pretty fun.
Seriously, what B1G game should Gameday have gone to this weekend? The B1G is not in any high profile game.

The fact of the matter is that EVERY bigtime program plays some cupcakes in out-of-conference play. Name me a bigtime program that scheduled 3 or 4 ranked opponents for their OOC slate. People need to stop bitching and moaning about who people play. It drives me nuts when people act like OSU's schedule is weaker than other schools'. OSU plays nobody different than anyone else. TSUN fans saying "at least we played a real team" - shut up. You scheduled a big-time opponent for the first time since scheduling Oregon 5 years ago. And no, your annual series with Notre Dame doesn't count - they aren't good and haven't been for a long, long time. SEC schools may be among the worst of playing cupcakes, but they used FSU playing Savannah State as their "example" of sorts - that's part of the SEC bias that some in this thread are talking about. At least Alabama stepped up and played TSUN, though the way that game looked, not much of a step-up was necessary. Sure, I'd love to play more bigtime opponents. You can thank the current BCS system for the way schedules are done.
Class of 2010.
So don't watch, and don't cry about it on the internet. Pretty simple, really.
Taquitos.
^Denny wins this by a land slide
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
I was just on the ESPN college football site. Very little coverage of the Buckeyes. It really seems as if they are trying to hammer us in the coverage.
They are making political comments on College Game Day. I want to keep my politics and sports separate. No longer do I get up early, head to the store to pick up my ingredients for chili and watch Game Day as I prepare the 'feast' for my family. Viewing Game Day is a tradition of the past.
Findog
Kirk Herbstreit is the most unloyal alum in OSU history (besides Ray Small maybe lol). He never sticks up for OSU or the B1G and steady drinks the SEC kool-aid like everybody else. I dont like Desmond Howard (went to sum school up north, & did a heisman pose at the shoe) but you'll never catch him picking against his team! ESPN as a whole has really went downhill....
Well, unfortunately, espn has a semi monopoly on college football coverage. so it is not as simple as don't watch it/don't bitch about it. let's hear it for corporate media mergers!!! they are fucking awesome!!!!!
B1G should try winning some games if they want more coverage. This is the worst I can remember the conference ever being. Also, how can fans continue complaint that ESPN hates OSU? Meyer had a big story on game day last week and they did an entire training days special on OSU. There wasn't really any good storylines or games for B1G this week, so I would not have covered the conference much either.
Wah, wah, wah.
Pre-game shows are not actual football.
Taquitos.
Big 10 bout to be 0-3 vs Pac 12.... this screams cover the Big 10 more. Big 10 gets more coverage than the ACC and Big East.
I wait til just before the game starts to turn the tv on. I can't stand the pregame shows either. They aren't telling me much I don't already know anyway.
Gee, if Denny could only take his own advice when it comes to people's grammar, or whatever else it is he cries about whenever he comments.
The game itself was fantastic TV. I wanted the Gators to lose so bad but the Aggies couldn't hold on. I didn't really watch Gameday, but it was nice to see Galloway on our coverage today. For being SEC fanboys, ESPN sure has a lot of Buckeyes on the payroll.
The #3 team in the SEC just lost at home to a Sun Belt Conference team. And lest we forget teams from that vaunted Southeastern Conference exactly 1 and 1 against the Big 10 thus far this year. So who knows if the SEC is any good either (although man the Big 10 looks bad this year, I can't argue with that).
@703
the Nebraska/UCLA was a better matchup than Florida/A&M. I think UCLA is underrated this year, and Nebraska is a top 25 team despite playing poorly on the road. Florida is barely a top 25 team and A&M is unranked, so explain how that's a bigger matchup other than the usual ESPN hype which you have apparently gobbled up.
While the B1G looks like it's going to have a down year, I can see the ESPN/SEC PR is going to cover for another year of overrated SEC teams. It's #3 team got beat by U. Louisiana Monroe, and Northwestern looked a lot better beating Vandy than their #4 team did.
I don't mean to take sides, but you really are just better off not watching it.
While I agree that the slobbering is annoying, in my opinion it's (sadly) deserved. As we all know, they've won 6 straight championships (2 of which by stepping over our limp corpse). Once someone punches the SEC in the mouth in the BCS Championship game, all that SEC mouthlove will start to subside.
The truth is that the SEC routinely has the best two teams in the country. The rest of the SEC though, in my opinion, is average at best. We saw that with Arkansas yesterday, we saw that last year when Michigan State beat Georgia. These things are cyclical, and I don't think anyone needs to be reminded of the dry-spell the SEC went through for many, many years (10 years ago not even a kid from Tuscaloosa would have been interested in going to Alabama lol). I have trouble believing that when they're not in NCAA rules violation trouble that anyone is going to be able to recruit a better team than USC (not only do they have CA under locks, but LA is a tremendous draw for kids outside the state). OSU (according to the NY Times) has the biggest fanbase in the country, Michigan is similarly in the top 3. It's only a matter of time, we just need patience.
Penult: I can easily explain why UF/aTm was bigger than UNL/UCLA. It was aTm's first game in a brand new conference against one of the banner teams of said conference. It was going to pull higher TV ratings than UNL/UCLA and have way more storylines to talk about.
You talk about Florida barely being a top 25 team, what about Nebraska? I would say that UNL is barely a top 25 team after watching that pathetic defensive effort against the Bruins. Hell, I would take Florida or aTm over Nebraska or UCLA in a matchup.
I didn't "gobble up" any "ESPN hype", so please don't put words in my mouth. Common sense (viewer numbers and game interest) should tell you why ESPN chose College Station over Pasadena.

The SEC is king right now, why wouldn't you ride the wave, it's good business.
You know what? The new Fox coverage for college football that is catching popularity and has a great bunch of talent like Eddie and Erin Andrews, is going to have a heavy B1G, PAC12, and Big 12 slant. So if you don't want to hear about the SEC and increasingly about the ACC, start watching Fox's coverage.
Hate to admit it, but I would love fior the B1G to get the same respect. Who in the conference has won any of the"Big" games except for the Bucks? Everyone else needs to step up!!!
Buckeye in PA purgatory
Phxbuck said:
Good, reasonable point, but the answer is that espn will contribute to SEC market over-saturation. People who aren't loyal fans of SEC programs begin to gag on the product. Critics go beyond mere criticism to ridiculing eSECpn.
I realize that espn's numbers are still really strong, but often the foundation has to weaken for some time before you'll see any damage on the facade.
Fido, I'd say it's getting there too. Losing someone like Erin Andrews was big. They damn near lost Scott Van Pelt. Fox inking deals with the B1G, Pac 12, and the Big 12 is going to go a long way too. ESPN was the only game in town basically. Game Day went from being kind of a silly little show with a crazy old man wearing mascott hats to this amazingly popular staple for college football fans every Saturday morning. I think ESPN also realizes they are over doing it with the SEC. If you listen to Scott Van Pelt, he'll say, I get it everyone is tired of hearing about the SEC, but all I can say is man up and beat them. So, I think there are some cracks in the foundation.
I think the combination of their 1 product and Fox gaining momentum will take away some of their steam. It's not going to happen overnight as you said, but I think it will accelerate quickly. Fox networks will end up having 3 of the biggest conference championship games, now they have a great crew for coverage for a show like Game Day and College Football Scoreboard. Their talent will be more likable than the Mark Mays of the world too.
So media and hype may get a little better, but the product on the field really needs to improve. I think the Buckeyes with Meyer can help a lot. He gets a team to the National Championship game, they may not win, but they won't shit the bed anymore. The Buckeyes in 2013 and 2014 could go a long way to get some B1G hype going again.
Espn did a week long all access on OSU this year and they aired about 100 hours of coverage on urbans family contract, I think we are getting a fair shake with the new regime. They love Urban.
Who gives a fuck about Urbz family contract?! They want to make him look trite. They "love him" LMAO. They don't want to lose a market as large as OSU that is all. Otherwise, they hate us.
Albert: good points. I believe/hope the burgeoning trends you describe will contribute to improving cfb on the field as well as the diversity and quality of media options.
Phxbuck: two things . . .
First, like Albert, I also sense that espn is aware that their strategies over the last five years or so (e.g., SEC blitz, tabloid approach toward Ohio State, etc.) has left them vulnerable in certain respects. So, it would be prudent for them to try to rebuild some bridges. Plus, they like Urbz, who is also good for business. But how much of that will be superficial? Espn has largely made its bed, in terms of financial commitments and mid-to-long-term media strategies.
Trust me, they don't want the Pac 12 to have a resurgence, while Urbz turns Ohio State into a super power, and the SEC goes back to its 1990 level of play. That would be bad for business. So, they're smart enough to ride USC and Ohio State when they're elite, but espn will keep buttering its main product as much as they can get away with it.
Second, I'm not sure that I'd just be okay with espn hyping the Urban Buckeyes and then saying, "it's all good now." No, because the espn near-monopoly was/is not healthy for cfb or cfb media. And just like Hollywood, I could live with the "politics," if the product hadn't become such pathetic garbage. Game Day is now boring and stupid. Like Hollywood, espn telecasts are great on pyrotechnics, but very poor on writing/announcing. Espn's biggest sin is that it just sucks much of the time. That's what happens sometimes with dinosaur media companies that grow stale and lose their creative edges.
1. They were talking about the SEC because they were at an SEC game.
2. The big ten is not getting any hype because the big ten sucks this year
3. Gameday had the the staff pick the national championship game last week and none of them picked an SEC team to win. Some left them out completely.
Why does everybody here have to hate everything that isnt OSU? Cant we just love college football? Its supposed to be fun. Everyone is getting so worked up over nothing.
I don't hate everything that is not OSU, and I do love college football. I simply hate everything that is SEC because I hate the segregation, the poverty; they live off the fed and rail against it at the same time, the poor educational standards, the hatred for the North, the fried food etc. etc. etc. The fact that they have greater representation in Fed Gov by populace etc. etc. Not to mention the insects. Just a nasty ass place with a nasty ass attitude for no god damned reason... Fuck 'em.
^So much of what you have said is so off-base. How clueless are you?
Schooey: wtf did I just read? I live in the south and have met many very nice people down here. Outside of sports and the humidity, the south isn't too bad.
"Attack the Strong, Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead!"

I lived in SC for 4 years. And visited various places in the South since I was 4.
Nobody said Burt Renolds and friends did not get what was coming to them, they just said this situation exists.
I still don't understand your unbridaled hate for a whole region. I could take what you said about the south and apply it to certain parts of any region of the country, including Ohio. Except for Florida (halfway dem/rep) and Texas, the south doesn't have a greater representation in national government.
"Attack the Strong, Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead!"
-Former OSU S&C Coach Lichter
1) The segregation? What this isn't the 1960s.
2) The poverty? Been to Cleveland? Detroit? Toledo? Youngstown? I mean really?
3) They live off the Fed. People everywhere are on welfare genius.
4) Poor educational standards? Huh? Sure they definitely are lower in public education, but there are PLENTY of incredible universities in the South. So umm sure.
5) Hatred for the North? What about this hatred for the South?
6) Greater Representation? 151 Representatives in the House from the South in comparison to 184 from the North (only Northeast/Midwest).
I meant the amount of federal money they take in vs. the amount they contribute.
Segregation? Have you lived there?
Which institions of higher learning are you promoting?
I'll get back to you on Congressional representation after I look it up. Want to get it right.
"Unbridled hatred for everything SEC." Yup. Pretty much.
Schooey, I lived in rural North Carolina for 17 years. I mean there is literally no difference between Raleigh, NC and Columbus, OH. Institutions of higher learning in the South: Duke, UNC, NCSU, Wake Forest, UVA, VaTech, Emory, UGA, UF, Emory-Riddle, GaTech, Maryland, I can keep going?
Your list does not get very far South there. But, fine, if you think those institutions rival the North then that is your opinion.
Schooey: "Unbridled hatred for everything SEC."? Don't misquote me. I said " unbridled hatred for a whole region".
"Attack the Strong, Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead!"
-Former OSU S&C Coach Lichter
North Carolina, Virginia, Florida (most southern of the southern states) and Georgia are not "very far south"? Are you insane?
Duke, Wake Forest, UNC, GT, VT, UF, Vanderbilt and UVA are world-class universities! All of them would fit the B1G's academic profile with no problem.
"Attack the Strong, Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead!"
-Former OSU S&C Coach Lichter
Schooey, UNC and UVA are better than any public university in the B1G (edit:UM is one spot ahead of UNC)... You said the South, and I listed several universities in the South. Although I will admit North Carolina and Virginia have been much more progressive in comparison to their "Deep South" brethren. I grew up in rural North Carolina, and there were no acts of segregation. Also I'd say I've run into more homeless people in Columbus than I ever did in Raleigh, although Columbus is a larger city than Raleigh. The point being you have a lot of misconceptions about the South as a whole that are way off-base.
Do people not realize that the ACC is also an academic powerhouse?
I'm done with this argument. William and I have done more than enough to prove schooey wrong.
"Attack the Strong, Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead!"
-Former OSU S&C Coach Lichter
Oh, which FL, SC, GA university were you touting again. I'll give you UNC.
I've proved you wrong so I will give this up now. LOL
Top 10 Rankings for Public Universities in the US:
1) UC-Berkeley
2) UCLA & UVA
4) Michigan
5) UNC
6) College of William & Mary
7) Georgia Tech
8) UC-San Diego
9) UC-Davis
10) UCSB, Washington and Wisconsin
By my count that would be 5 from California, 4 from the South, and 2 from the Midwest and one from the Northwest.....
Schooey: Can you not read? I already listed 8 schools.
"Attack the Strong, Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead!"
-Former OSU S&C Coach Lichter
Schooey, UF and Emory-Riddle are in Florida. Georgia Tech and Emory are in Atlanta for Christ's sake....
Oh, I thought you meant schools that play football. In that case I am going with Amherst, MA for top undergrad school.
GT, UVA, W&M, and UNC are on that list and play football.
"Attack the Strong, Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead!"
-Former OSU S&C Coach Lichter
Hmmm sounds like that list was made in SC.
Wait, W & M does not play football
Here's the rest of the Top 25:
13) PSU, UC-Irvine, Illinois, Texas.
17) OSU, Maryland.
19) Texas A&M, Connecticut, Florida, Pittsburgh.
23) Purdue, UGA.
25) Clemson
So by my count that adds another California (6 total), 6 more to the North (Northeast/Midwest) which puts them at 8 total, another 6 to the South, putting them at 10 total.
William & Mary is one of the best FCS football schools..
So there are more Top 25 Public universities in the South than in the North.
Source:http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/top-public
W & M plays football? They should stop before someone get hurt. Anything after 17 looks like pure crap to me. But, I would say anything out of about 20 schools in the country looks that way academically.
"Anything after 17 looks like pure crap." What? Purdue? Are you crazy? This is a lost cause. Facts are just too much I guess.
"Purdue, the Harvard of the North."
"Purdue, has a better engineering school than Ohio State."
OH, my father would beg to differ. Now those are fighting words. LOL
Sorry you did not get into OSU engineering program.
I was actually accepted to Ohio State's Biomedical Engineering program but switched to Political Science and Economics. So there's that....
NorthWestern is the Harvard of the BG1, that plays football. University of Chicago is all around the best. But who the fuck wants to live there?!
WILLIAM
That was my major in college, hence my screen name... If you're arguing who is better between OSU and Purdue, please stop. Purdue will win this battle....
All the schools I've seen listed are good. No need to argue who is better or worst.
Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012
Peace, good night.
I once was in northern Georgia and I was driving late at night and was getting tired so I went into a bar. This crack whore sat down next to me and started talking at me for a while, and she was a real nice lady and all but I was not into what she had to offer, so I moved over next to the guy a couple of seats down, who happened to be black. Larry and I got to bullshitting and he was in his 40's and a plumber and a pretty nice dude. The gal who had been sitting next to me asked him to put a song on the juke box. He told her "Hell no, those boys'll kill me." I asked him what he meant by that, and he said that those "good ol' boys" sitting at the table would not let him play a song. I told him that was bullshit, and to play whatever he wanted and if anyone had a problem with it, they could talk to me.
Larry told me to keep my goddamn voice down and that if I continued in that vein, those "good ol' boy's" would take us outside, and shoot us and dump our bodies in the woods. I am married with two kids, and was such a pussy that I left it alone at that. The south is a shit hole, and the sooner that it slides into the sea, the better. I live in Alaska, and I have never met racist, dipshit psychopaths such as I encountered on my trip to Georgia and Tennessee. I think that for the most part, Schooey has it spot on.
I see we have two generalizing fools on this site, Schooey and Yankeescum.
"Attack the Strong, Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead!"

I was involved in an accident in the middle of the night in southern Georgia in the middle of no where. I was driving 70MPH on the expressway and some dude came flying up about 100 and rear ended us. I floored the gas and got a little acceleration and he slammed the breaks last second so he didn't hit us as hard as he could've/should've and I hate to think what would of happened had he not slammed the breaks. I mentioned the cops, they guy got really funny acting to the point that he was he took a step toward me when I reached for my phone. Being 3AM in the middle of no where, I decided I didn't want for myself and my wife to be murdered on the side of I-75 and told the guy just to leave.
We went to the next exit and the cops from this little town showed up the first thing they said was, Is he black or Mexican? It pissed me off that they made those assumptions, but I did get the guy's name and the car's plates. They ran the tag, it was a rental car, turns out it wasn't rented in his name and that's what these guys do down there. They run drugs from Florida up to Macon and Atlanta and they always use rentals and stuff like that. So, there's a good chance if I would of called the cops something bad would of happened on the side of the road, and there's a good chance they asked about if the guy was "black or Mexican" it's because they deal with these people running alot.
I was still pissed and it was very ignorant. You would think they would of thought of a more discreet way of asking about the incident than just saying WAS HE BLACK OR MEXICAN!?!?!?!? So, while I hate the prejudice and stereotypes and ignorance we were reporting the incident, but I also hate the guy who could of killed my wife and me in an accident or done something that wasn't kosher if I called the police, all because he was fucked up and running drugs.
So yeah, I saw the worst of the south in that lonely stretch of highway 40 miles north of Valdosta, GA. Both from local officials who are hired to protect and serve, and from the criminal element down there. I would not, however, make an assumption about the whole south and the millions of people from totally different places based on that one experience. Especially, when I can find racist ignorant cops and degenerate drug dealers in any city and in any state.
