Despite Barker shredding these defenses, his team has lost 2 of these games. He's put up some great numbers, but I guess their Defense is horrible. There's quite the buzz about him here in NKY though. A lot of people work with his uncle or went to school with his dad lol. Everyone claims to know him somehow. My uncle actually did go to school with his dad though, and was telling me about a post Drew's dad had on FB. It was a picture of all the letters he got from colleges in 1 day last week. There were like 25 pieces of mail in the picture. I can't imagine getting bombed with letters like that every day. I'm sure the phone is blowing up too.
I've yet to get out to one of his games, I was going to go 2 different occasions but the weather didn't hold up. I may try to get out and watch him this weekend.
Speaking of how he looks, he reminds me of a young John Elway. I'm not comparing how good he is to Elway, but rather the way he scrambles, and his throwing motion (that little rock backwards as he's getting rid of the ball).
If OSU were to offer today, what are the chances he commits and does so soon? He'd be the first of 2014, and he'd be in the perfect position to start bringing in other guys, which he says he wants to be a part of. Has he really come out with a leader or top schools yet?
Looks a lot like Tebow to be honest. Deceptive speed, solid strength as a runner. Bit of a slow release but man can he throw the ball. Really hope the staff tosses and offer his way and he commits. Looks solid.
He'll be here for the Michigan game I believe, and if he has/gets an offer on or before then I think he commits there and kicks off the class (hate to say this but...) Shane Morris style and helps reel in some big time talent
Edit: Barker will be at OSU for Michigan, not Nebraska. Here's to hoping he has an offer in hand before then, maybe even commits before then. Would love to see him do some recruiting on the big name 2014 guys that will be at The Game
@fromthe18, had the same.exact.thoughts. dude finds extra yardage, good speed / strength, and opens up the offense well with deep throws allowing him to find free running room.
i like him and want him... but the comparisons to tebow? i mean his team has already lost 2 games... tebow was busy winning pee-wee middle school and highschool championships
Tebow went to a powerhouse program in Florida. Barker is not attending a powerhouse program in Kentucky. Look at Miller, Huber Heights is not a powerhouse and they lost plenty of games while Miller was the starter. High school W-L records don't matter much to me, I'm much more interested in players stat lines and their camp performances.
How is his competition in KY? I know nothing about the state. However, this kids stiff arm and throwing arm is great. I haven't seen any clips for any other QBs from this class so I can't really compare. Wouldn't complain about him getting an offer now though.
I think you guys are going low with this kid. I saw that deep ball drop very nicely in on the hands of the receivers, over the top! I saw read progession. I see a kid with an above average arm, accuracy and ability to read a defense. His arm is way better than Tebow's. He doesn't run as strong north/south as Tebow did also.
going high, I say he looks a lot like Aaron Rodgers. Very Mobile but highly rated arm. **I'm not saying he will be Aaron Rodgers! I just think he has that style of play were his arm is his main weapon but not his only one.
I also think JT Barrett looks a lot like Cam Newton. Powerful north/south runner with a good deep ball. Don't think he knows how to read a defense yet. But look out when he tucks and bolts through the line. Of course he doesn't have the size that Newton does but very straight forward running style.
If either one of these guys makes me right, we are in for a treat!
I do not think he looks anything like Tebow. The one great value Tebow gives is Leadership to his team and if Barker only measured up to Tebow for running and Leadership he would not come close. But add in the third tangible a QB needs (passing) and you have a different story. I believe Barker is worth the investment. If he did get beat out at QB you have a potential TE.
Sooo... my question would be, of the top 4 or so QBs that Urban and Co. are looking at, which ones really want to not only get a Buckeye offer but really want to be a Buckeye and start bleeding scarlet and gray? Since they are all high level recruits, they would presumably know how to play the recruiting game and talk about their awesome visit to -insert name here- University.
Barker most certainly doesn't go to a powerhouse program in Kentucky. His team has lost 2 games, but that's not on Barker, that's on the defense that is allowing a ton of points. Barker has had impressive stats most nights, his team just isn't that good. They are putting up point totals int he 30's and losing. Can't blame that on the QB.
Barker is in a good position to be able to travel up to Columbus frequently to host other recruits if he were to commit... This would be an advantage with his location.
Frankly I would be surprised if Strong hasn't been recruiting Barker. Forget UK, Barker would fit in well at Louisville. He could slide right in behind Bridgewater and not have as much competition as he would at OSU. but at OSU he will compete for a NC.
Southby, I would think the recruit that would be dying to get an offer would be Kizer. He is an Ohio player and supposedly was eager to perform at FNL. He would not be a bad commit to have. I would be surprised if Urban doesn't bring in Kizer and one of either Barker or Henderson.
Wasn't there some info a couple weeks ago that Barker was really impressed by UofL??? If he didn't get an offer from Ohio State soon, UofL may be tough to beat. Who knows though, Barret could become a star and the 2014 QB recruit may never play.
Strong will not put a lot of time or effort into the 2014 class unless he gets committed to U of L. If he plans to move on he will make relationships but will not sign these kids.

Just offer Barker and be done. Kid looks good.

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

He's got that Pryor stiff arm watch at 43 seconds
and still almost won state @William.
