Did Miller ever make a correct option read in the UCF game?

I just watched the game again and man he really struggles with his reads.

Boren's fumble was flat out Miller's fault.  The end crashes right into Boren as he is getting the handoff from Miller.  Miller without a doubt should have kept that ball.

It appears to me that he is deciding what to do with the ball before the snap on most option plays.

Miller is so good at scrambling that it covers up for a lot of errors, but if he can develop his option reads the offense could really take off.

I watched part of the game again, too --- I love that peel back block Linsley made on a rushing UCF defender --- he blew him up! It was in the 2nd quarter, 3rd & goal at the UCF 5, I think. Braxton missed his target in Carlos Hyde, (but it actually looked like Corey Brown was open in the back of the endzone). I think it may have been the play Hyde hurt his knee. Crazy play, Braxton was scrambling & Linsley blew that guy up. The funny part was the announcers didn't even mention it. I don't know how they could miss that. It was probably the best block of the game.

That was a great block.  Miller panicked a little and tried to squeeze it into Hyde.  I believe that was the play Hyde injured his knee on.

Linsley has been very impressive so far.  He has looked better than Brewster did last season IMHO.  Of course, the competition hasn't been B1G caliber.

I noticed the same thing, Maestro. It seems to take most good option read quarterbacks the first couple years of college to get it right though, so hopefully he'll continue to come around. On the plays he does get it right, he tends to go for 10+ a run.

Agreed Maestro, that he needs to improve the reads a bit but man, is he ever better at running any kind of option than Pryor. 100% improvement.

Havent rewatched the game but there was one series in particular - in second or third quarter - where on several plays in a row i thought man, he keeps picking wrong. One was handoff he should have kept and other a keeper he shouldve dished, back to back.
Also i know it was never entirely out of reach but i was a bit surprised we never inserted kenny g for a snap or two, if nothing else to alleviate the brusing on braxton. I had gotten the impression urban had a level of confidence in guiton but not so sure after that game. Any thoughts?

@ Terwill

Yeah, I was a little surprised as well that they never inserted Kenny, even in the 4th quarter just to reduce the damage Braxton was taking.

It will take more than 2 games for him to get comfortable with the new offense.  This is why we need to recruit Drew Barker.  He already runs the same style of offense in high school.  Would be a smooth transition for him.

Well he certainly made the right call in the first series of the 2nd half against Miami of OH

Right call or not, he was not going to pitch that ball regardless.

You must take into consideration that he (Brax) is not always reading the Defensive end-- In most simple zone read schemes, yes-- that is the primary read for the QB in deciding to keep or give... however, as Urban has pointed out several times.. we may read the end, we may read the backer-- heck if we run Midline we're gonna read the DT, it just depends on the play call and what we're trying to accomplish... Dont be too concerned my friend-- lets not forget the kid was in a Black Jersey all summer so his reads may not be as crisp as one may like right now...

Lastly, correct read or not-- the production is there; it's early. If we're in week 12 and we're talking about these same errors then there will be cause for concern.

Remember that in the end you will be judged not by what you believed, planned or dreamed; but, by what you did.
