I think we used the "LEO" position a bit too much in the game against Miami University. To often their QB had the time to just sit back in the pocket, and survey the field to field the open WR. Often time they were blocking 5, and we were rushing 3. I don't think that was a good defense against the type of QB we were facing a "Pocket Passer". Now as the season progresses, and we come up against QBs that aren't able to read a defense as well, then at that time dropping 8 into coverage will be more beneficial I think, but I felt our DL was handicapped because they were all just about expected to beat double teams alot of times.

I think he was getting rid of the ball too quickly to send a bunch of guys. Even if we sent 6 after their QB, he would have easily read that and unloaded the ball well before we got to him thus resulting in more big plays. I think a QB who doesn't read the defense as well is the one to pressure...force him into a quick decision and a mistake. If he doesn't read defenses well, he is less likely to recognize a blitz and determine who the hot route is.

I feel like i must have watched a different game than a lot of you. I saw a ton of quick throws to get rid of the ball and neutralize the D-line. Our LBers and secondary missed too many tackles early, and cleaned up their act later
^Agreed. They ran three step quickfires all game.
Dysert is an NFL quality QB making perfect quick throws. Even with the best defenders money can buy, you can't stop perfectly thrown quick timing passes (which is why the NFL has evolved in that direction). Not enough time to apply consistent pressure, not enough guys to cover the space of the field (at least until it compresses in the red zone). I thought we adjusted perfectly after the first quarter and performed quite well all things considered.

another thing to think about aside from the quick throws on Miami's part that everyone pointed out is we were playing a base defense for most of the game. No need to show all our weapons and trickery week one verse a MAC team
The easiest way to stop the quick 3 step drop passes is to walk the defender up on coverage and play press off the line. That will one mess up the timing routs and two help get the d-line time to get there.
@HSBDAWG ... My thoughts exactly, if these corners are suppose to be so good let's see it. You walk them down, and press. Not every play of course, but you don't just sit there, and do nothing. I agree we improved as the game wore on, but let's not forget all the dropped passes.
TY BUCKINBAMA and I am also in the heart of the SEC here in Georgia. Sometimes i hate to put on my OSU gear and hear all tha we are king shit sec stuff insted of there team.
