PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
I'm not throwing in the towel. I think we will keep improving week to week and we will be fine. Michigan State is very beatable and the rest of the Big Ten has been suspect as well. Besides when it matters we turn Miller loose just a bit more and those drives don't look so bad. Defensively I don't know, but I have faith we will be competitive.
Braxton can win OSU any game in which he plays well in. OSU defense might not be able to look any worse, so we'll see.
I won't be suprised to see MSU win. Hope not, though.
We aren't a great team..but doesn't mean we are going to lose. Braxton's running ability keeps us in games.
so, who's putting MSU RB Bell on their fantasy team next week?
Mine as well put MSU QB Maxwell on there too.
Thank goodness the rest the B1G sucks.
Seriously, even with our inconsistent offense (talk about either great or horrible) and our crap defense, there isn't a good team to worry about in the B1G this year.
Michigan State has a pretty good defense and a good running back. They're beatable. Easily.
This team has not improved at all from week to week. If anything, they have regressed. How do you get to this level and not know how to tackle? How do you know for a week you are playing a team with ZERO running game and make ZERO adjustments with the knowledge the team is going to pass, pass, pass. The reality is the secondary is absolutely atrocious, the tackling is inexcusable and the offense is inconsistent at best. Get ready for a mediocre at best Big 10 showing this year...

Love UFM but he should have never kept fickell as a co-dc!!!! You have to as hard as it is make a clean break with the past.. Fickell would have gotten on somewhere else and been better for it but all the good will from last year he accumilated will be gone by next week if not already....
"GIMMIE THAT BEAT FOOL!!! IT'S A FULL TIME JACK MOVE" Ice Cube jack for beats..
Let's face it: we're not a very good team. We all know Brax can be explosive, but consistency counts for a lot, and we don't have any consistency on either side of the ball. Man, I'm glad we play in the MAC-2 this year.
What Fickell did last year proved that he deserved a CHANCE at being the coordinator. Urban made the right call at the time. But he hasn't made ANY defensive adjustments. Next week is the biggest test. I thought the D played reasonably well today, didn't give up a TD, but the easy yards are killing us.
When I walked in this morning and saw the flag was at half mast I thought, "Alright, another bureaucrat ate it." but then I saw it was Li'l Sebastian. Half mast is too high. Show some damn respect.
I agree that we looked suspect in alot of areas the last couple weeks but I think alot of people have been too hasty to throw in the towel on the season. Im not saying that I havent been tempted to, but this is a young team with a brand new scheme and I think that we are just waiting for that big game (Maybe next week for MSU) to realize that sure tackling, consistent offense, and always being the agressor makes for a championship caliber team. Have I been disappointed? Yes. Do I think there is alot to work on? Heck ya. But I also can see this team doing special things this season that will carry over to next year when we have a shot at a NC.
Fickell, hapless performance last year did not earn him a chance at DC. Urban, aware of tradition, aware of Rich Rod's ignoring tradition and it's result, retained Fickell for continuity. Fickell never performed to the level of deserving a big job at a place like OSU. He is absolutely not up to the task of DC or even LB coach at OSU. The talk that he will be a head coach somewhere soon is ridiculous. Who would hire him...based on what?? Also, Kerry Coombs is not showing me much. The guy is a glorified HIGH SCHOOL COACH. Sure he is loud and animated but what HS coach isn't? It covers up for the fact that they don't know much. We were 103rd in pass defense BEFORE being torched for over 400 yards by UAB for Christs sake! The talent is there, the performance is not. Urban did himself a disservice by retaining Fickell. We can afford the best and should go out and get it.
^Fickell shouldn't be the LB coach? What about all the good ones Hes coached up, do I have to name them?
Hawk, Carpenter, Schlegal, JL, Freeman, Grant, Homan, Rolle.
not so sure about this seeing as how directional michigan is giving sparty all they can handle
Well i like college and i like football...and im gunna keep doin em both cause they make me feel good!!!
I'm as pessimistic about this team as anyone, but if it's worth anything, MSU is down 7-3 to Eastern Michigan at halftime.
and its fine to be pessimistic about this team..but we should all be stoked out of our minds about the schedule..the big is the worst aq confrence by a mile..maybe at mac level..maybe
Michigan State> awesome! Put your head in between a door and the jamb. Slam door repeatedly. That should help with your mental prep. I'll get ready to put another W on the schedule
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
So if we go unbeaten in the worst Big Ten ever, without being able to play in the Big Ten title or national title game..whats the point?
I was at the game and they were flat as hell. UAB constantly in a 3rd and short and our DB's 6 yds. off the ball?!?! Shoulder tackling all game long by the whole D. Braxton showed me today he has no concept of the read option or Urb's offense. Devin Smith and Philly Brown were running wide open all game. Braxton goes with 1st read almost everytime and doesn't scan the field EVER. Good thing the MAC 10 sucks this year! FWIW, I'm happy Northwestern isn't on our schedule this year. Class of the B1G!!
You hit it right on the head about Braxton! Great runner but average QB at best.
Braxton is the best thing we have on the team, offense, or defense. He needs time to continue developing. He isn't great yet, but will be before its all said, and done. I'm more concerned about our super slow defense, and our coaching up to this point. We were barely getting pressure w/our DL against UAB! The DL has been grossly over hyped. Could M.Bennett, be that big of a factor???
I'd like to agree but have you been watching MSU today? They look really bad on offense. I'm mentally prepared myself for 3-5 loses months ago so I'm not expecting much. MSU will win a close one 21-17.
I said before this game that OSU plays its best game of the season next week, and I'm sticking to it. We know them, match up well with them, and win by something like 24-13.
Why would MSU beat us? They haven't shown much either, not to mention they have Bausermen Jr at QB. I hope we have the sense to load the box, play man, and make their QB beat us. We've been playing extremely basic defense, and that has nothing to do w/missed tackles.
Why? Sparty is just as bad, if not worse.
For all the talk by everyone (myself included) and the coaches about how we have good CB's, show it!! No one can seriously tell me that UAB had better WR's than our CB's? Put them in man press and lets see. Have we played any press at all this season? If Roby, Howard, Grant, Barnett, Bryant and Johnson cant man up against the likes of UAB, Miami, UCF and Cal, we have SERIOUS issues......
Braxton just doesn't have a grasp for the offense. He has no clue when to hand it off or keep, pitch it or keep and 75% of the time he goes with his 1st read. He is an explosive, gamechanging athlete that plays QB right now.
That's sounds like another QB we had that did pretty good. I'll take it T.Smith didn't come into his own untl the middle to end of his Jr year.
Yeah, but that's when he finally got on the field. Braxton has started in what, 14 games already? His passing looks about the same as it did against Colorado last season.
pretty simple..im confident for next saturday because when you look at both teams whole body of work we have an offense that can put the ball in the end zone and sparty does not
agreed Bama. With the right coaching, Braxton's gonna be damn good. Heisman good. He is, by far, our best athlete/playmaker. But right now, he is not a good QB.
I feel that the coaches are limiting Braxtons runs and thats why hes taking the first read on the option, handing it off the running back everytime. He might be afraid of what will happen if he does run it alot. I wish he would honestly, even on tv you can see a wide open lane because they disguise the handoff and run so well. If Braxton tucks and runs, hes gaining 10-15 yards easy.
Everyone knows Braxton is way more of a scrambler than passer. He is a great runner and an average passer. I know they dont want him running it 20 times a game, but damn, he is our only piece of offense that is able to produce a big run.
I don't know if we'll get beat down next week but I'm not so sure about the Nebraska game.
Preparing already...and based of the last three weeks...it does mean we can lose. We very well may if the coaches as well as players don't step up considering this will be the best team OSU's faced so far. Bell creates an issue with the way our defense has been tackling...we may see a bunch of this.

Dude, you've had the whole offseason to prepare yourself to lose to Michigan State. Almost every season forecast predicts a loss to Sparty in East Lansing. What you need to start preparing for are blow-out losses to Nebraska and/or Purdue in Columbus. If this team doesn't improve, they'll lose 3-4 B1G games.
^^ ahh the "I knew we'd lose to MSU all along" buckeye fan. Well unlike a majority of people on this site, I'm gonna actually have confidence in our team. We have less losses then MSU, Nebraska, and Purdue. That's not a guarantee we win, but IMO cal is very similar talent wise to UCLA who beat Nebraska, and UCF would wipe the floor with directional Michigan. Bucks beat MSU 20-16, Nebraska at home at night will NOT be a blowout, and that's a guarantee.
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
I came to grips with this two weeks ago. It is going to be ugly and Braxton is going to have to carry the offense in a major shootout unless they throw the ball to much and we get a few pics to stop their drives. That is our only savings grace...
Beat down? Have you watched MSU the last two weeks? lol
Class of 2010.
Sparty and shootout in the same sentence? We must not be watching the same team. Michigan State has not been able to score points quickly or in large numbers. Their defense is pretty solid, but not Alabama solid. They will give up points and until they show another dimension to their offense, they won't light up the scoreboeard. If OSU can continue to put up some points, 20+, I think they'll have the opportunity to win it. I don't see this game as anything close to a sure loss. I think everyone is still on the "MSU is a top 10 team in the country" hype machine that we all heard the entire offseason. They haven't shown they are top 15 yet and neither has OSU, so that's why it should be a decent game.
I don't know how you guys are so sold on MSU? They don't have Kirk Cousins anymore. Maxwell has a lot of growing to do and will not do it against this defense! I am not sure what jaugernaut team you guys think MSU is and what pushovers you think OSU is, but you guys seriously need to get a grip on yourselves. You guys would probably be upset as LSU fans who just barely won 12-10 over a weak Auburn team.
I mean, OSU is only 4-0 with a heisman candidate at QB! That is horrible!
I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!
I would looovvveee to be wrong and I hope all you positive posters are right....and if you are I'll eat as much "crow" as I deserve but......will you do the same if I'm right?
MSU doesn't look good. OSU certainly doesn't look good. Should be a pretty ugly game. I don't see either team being able to "Beat Down" the other.
Squirrel: I was in a toy store today with my four year old son and saw this toy. It was pretty cool, but he wanted a remote controlled dinosaur.
He looks kind of big Fido! Can he fit in the shirt pocket of your inmate oranges?
Jason, I didn't say at one point in my post about who would win the game, so I don't believe I will be served crow if MSU wins. Others can have it! I just don't believe it will be the slaughter that this post believes it is!
Let's go Buckeyes...you got this!
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
If I was able to link YouTube videos here at work, I would be posting Third Eye Blind's "Jumper" a lot on here.
Step back from the ledge, my friends. We knew this was going to be a rebuilding process going in--but I think that Urban and the rest of the staff's frank demeanor on every facet of our team gave us a lot of confidence heading into the season, perhaps too much.
I honestly believe that our league is bad enough for us to have an outside shot at running the table, and I have so much more faith in this staff than I did in last year's. Last season, I saw no improvement week-to-week, whereas I have faith that we're going to see marked improvement in our team's performance over the next few weeks. I'll be interested to see what we look like as we head into the meat of our schedule here, because I'm sure that Urban has been keeping some stuff under wraps.
Jasonbuck you can keep that idea man. As a loyal Buckeye fan I will NEVER go into a game with that mindset. Ever. What if the team bought in to that line of thinking? You're more than welcome to your own opinion of course, but I strongly dissagree with everything about it.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
Weren't we supposed to lose to MSU big last year? I mean, we didnt win, but it definitely was winnable.
I must admit my mind is changing....the more I watch the replays of last year, it was definitely a "winable" game and our offense was totally inept. I agree with what UFM said about there offense playing into our defensive strengths (which makes me wonder if Sparty will change up their offense a bit to attack us on the edge). Well Saturday will be interesting thats for sure.
Cal hurts the Buck's D with speedy little scat back type runs. UAB hurt us with passing. MSU has neither, Ohio State wins a close one.
I remember last year leading up to the Wisky game people were selling their tickets because they didn't want to see a blowout.
How'd that work out?
I don't think anyone is getting killed. Hell MSU last year which was a better team didn't KILL Ohio State. They dominated the game sure, but the end result was pretty close. MSU isn't as good and OSU is better than last year. Don't think it's going to be a blowout by any stretch.
I post this on a forum I started but I think you should read this if you already didn't... It might help.
