Open question for everyone... During the kickoffs at Ohio Stadium, everyone Woooooahhs with their finger in the air, then goes O-H-I-O once the ball is kicked. However, we noticed that there is another chant that the crowd is yelling just after that, but we can't make it out what they're saying on the broadcast. Anyone know?

they very clearly and precisely yell...."RIP HIS FU*)ING HEAD OFF"....i'm surprised it has lasted this long lol
"Winter is coming" - Urban Meyer
Makes me lulz every time I hear it on television. God, I love the student section. Though, they could try to annunciate it a little better--the Ravens' fans on Sunday night set the gold standard with their "Bullshit" chant echoing perfectly through my hi-def set.
I remember when it was just a few people yelling that - now you can clearly hear it on TV and through the entire stadium.
Greg Jennings "I put my team on my back"
Classy!
My wife asked the same question while we were at the UCF game. I was happy to explain it to her.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
i mean the whole thing started last year when we gave up so many kickoff returns for TDs, and now its more or less a superstition (or at least it is in my mind). I yell it as loud as I can every time
What would be really funny is if that came through on TV at a road game.
Class of 2010.
It had been done for several years, not just last. It's not a cheer the students section supports or advocates; it is what it is. It's heard now for three reasons:
1.) The TV networks mic up the band, which inherently points the mics at the south stands (for UAB, BTN also directionally mic'd up Block O, which probably didn't help)
2.) The whole south stands says it.
3.) We're scoring more now, and it only happens when the Buckeyes are kicking to the receiving team.
You really can't make it out unless you're fairly close to the south stands, or listening for it on TV.
@RCBIRK21 - It's been going on at least since '09. I was a sophomore then, and we always shouted it before kickoff. I can't remember if we did it in '08 or not; I do distinctly remember, though, shouting "SHOES!" before kickoff and spinning my footwear around in circles above my head--along with everyone else in my section. Strange things were afoot in the southwest corner of the South Stands...
I love it. Caught me off guard the first time I heard them say it.
"Do not pray for an easy life. Rather, pray for the the strength to endure a difficult one" - Bruce Lee
It's been going on since I was a freshman or soph around '05. It used to just be a small group of people and then grew and now the whole section shouts it.
Not the whole section, the whole south stands.
I don't condone this one bit...it used to be a few drunk kids in the south stands doing it, but nothing really ever loud enough to hear on TV or even a section away...it seems it started to spread throughout more students from 2009-2011 and now this year we have everyone saying it....classless IMO
Ehh it's a fun chant that adds to stadium noise/atmosphere. We aren't throwing D-cells at anyone, so I wouldn't say it's classless.
I'm thinking ripping off an opponents head is going to draw a personal foul penalty, and we really don't need anymore of those!!
I completely agree with Alex. I don't like it, and I think it's beneath Ohio State. We're too good for that kind of stuff.
It has been going on for as long as I can remember, early 60's @ archibald stadium for syracuse games, late 60's in the shoe. It is everywhere.
While I don't care for it that much it's not because I am on some sort of moral high ground about it. I just think we could think of something better/more creative to say.
I think its great for the students, and I yelled it when I was there. Grown ass men should not being saying this though.
Oh I agree with you guys completely, but there's no way to actually stop it; you tell people not to do it, they do it more. I guess we'll just wait and hope it goes away next year. If Gee or Dr. J told the students to stop, they wouldn't. If it were Coach Meyer, they may listen, but that's pretty much the only way.
Beneath Ohio State? We're too good for that? You sound like those pompous the university of ann arbor (tuoaa) people who jingle their keys during games to make noise and tell people in front of them to sit down so they can watch the game. I agree with the comment that at least we aren't throwing batteries or something else.
I'm with Alex and BTAlbert on this one. I don't partake in it (I'm a student with tickets in the south stands). Not only is it tasteless, but it's not even creative...
Here is a good example of how NOT to downvote.
"RCBIRK21 -1 i mean the whole thing started last year when we gave up so many kickoff returns for TDs, and now its more or less a superstition (or at least it is in my mind). I yell it as loud as I can every time"
"BTALBERT25 -1 I completely agree with Alex. I don't like it, and I think it's beneath Ohio State. We're too good for that kind of stuff."
"BOLT -1 While I don't care for it that much it's not because I am on some sort of moral high ground about it. I just think we could think of something better/more creative to say."
Those comments are NOT downvote worthy, just because whomever downvoted disagreed with them.

Agreed @Mtots, we could come up with better, more creative chants.
It may be classless, but there's a lot worse things the student section could be doing. I think it's dumb and classless, but funny all the same; not to mention the fact that its harmless.
In a perfect world, we'd have unique chants for every game--specifically mocking said opponent in creative ways--but as it stands, I'm not getting worked up over it.
I also want to point out that the reason you hear it on TV is because they are mic-ing up the band a lot more than they used to in the past. I move around during the game to different sections and could not make it out on B-deck east side or C-deck north side; yet, you could hear it on TV. I talked to people sitting in the Huntington Club during the game (so the big time donors and whatnot) and they couldn't hear it at all.
Edit: Agreed @Hodge, like the women's volleyball games. There are chants for specific teams and specific players. Nothing vulgar, just creative.
I was wondering what the chant was as well; glad I finally know.
My comments: What's really cool to college kids is not so cool when you are taxes-paying adult. So while I won't get all preachy to my young Buckeye's, time and persepective would proably lead everyone to the same conclusion: If it's not a tradition you would want to teach to your kids someday, it's probably not Buckeye worthy. I'll leave "class" out of it, because that is subjective (throwing D-batteries and bags of urine are MUCH worse), but I definitely believe the brightest students at the best university in the world could come up with something more creative and clever.
Is it really rediculous for us to be discussing this, while a student @ TOSU I prob said that 500+ times, while as a mature adult said even worse. Go Bucks; play good this weekend .
Oyster, I never said anything about people not cheering or rattling keys, I just think that's the sort of thing that gives Ohio State fans a bad name. To me, it's "Wal-Mart Fan" behavior. You disagree and think it's perfectly ok to scream it and that's fine, by all means go ahead and do it. I just don't think it adds anything positive to the Ohio State game day experience, so I won't scream it.
I actually find this far from "Wal-Mart" fan level. Acts that deserve that kind of recognition include throwing D-cell batteries or bags of urine at players/fans/marching bands. I liked the bullsh*t chant that reigned throughout Baltimore's stadium, although man do I hate the Ravens. I like it, in my mind it gives the stadium and crowd an edge, playing nice when it comes to chants is pretty lame if you ask me. I love Stadium O-H-I-O, but give me the kickoff chant over most of our chants, especially "Let's go bucks" or the "Ur-ban Mey-er" crap. I guess I'd just rather have the 'Shoe resemble the atmosphere of a game at Anfield, Ashburton Grove or Old Trafford, minus the crowd surges, fires in the stands, collapsing walls and fatalities that go along with European football.
I'm with the group of commenters who finds it classless. Do better Buckeye Nation.
I am not a fan of it, however if I were still a student I would probably be screaming it from the rafters. Having a kid makes you a little more sensitive to people just randomly dropping F-bombs.

THE Ohio State University
I can understand the distaste for this kind of chant. But, chants like these are seated in the very nature of sports. Heck - "We don't give a damn for the whole State of *ichigan" has long been sung by many OSU fans. "F*** *ichigan" and the more popular "Screw the Blue" bumper stickers and tee shirts and chants were popular when I was in school in the 70's and have had runs ever since.
The thing about chants that is really funny is that very few on the field can actually distinguish what the crowd is screaming unless it is echoed by the entire stadium. I can remember many of my friends telling me what was being chanted while they attended the games. Most of us on the field never even noticed what was being chanted, screamed, or sung. It all just blended into the background noise as we were busy trying to concentrate on the task at hand. That continued through my HS coaching days as well. My wife would discuss stuff that happened in the stands during the game that I was completely unaware of. That does, however, change if the entire stadium gets into it. The O-H-I-O chant is noticeable when it goes around the stadium. The BS chant in Baltimore had to be noticed on the field. Fortunately, a chant like "rip their heads off" will not catch on with the majority of the stadium.
I also don't drink until I stumble and pass out either but then again I am not in college anymore. College students do what college students do. We are in a culture where being drunk at a college football game is the equivalent to "what happens in Vegas". Its the place and time where you do what you normally wouldn't do on a normal class/working day.
Can't fault drunken students for doing what drunken students do. The blame should be those who put a mic in front of those drunken students.
@NW BUCK - You a former player?
a big who cares what the students chant as long as they aren't verbally assulting opposing fans
Cause I couldn't go for three
"Fortunately, a chant like "rip their heads off" will not catch on with the majority of the stadium." -NW Buckeye
I will say though, at least that is rhythmic (RIP - his - HEAD - off). The best chants have an internal rhythm that is easily understood, thus catch on with a larger crowd (O - H [pause, pause] I - O). I don't have a problem with "RIP HIS FU***** HEAD OFF," but it just isn't catchy. Maybe it's the way I'm saying it in my head? Haha.
Hodge - Former manager - played in HS but was prohibited from playing beyond that because of a heart problem. Had my aortic valve replaced when I was 35, and it was re-replaced last year along with my mitral valve at age 59. I had the best of both worlds as a manager - worked with the coaches, learned the game and had full use of the facility. It was, and still is, a student athlete position (glorified way of saying you don't get paid for the work!!!), and I am a member of Varsity O. Only problem was that we worked between 60 to 80 hrs a week during season. Every week day from about 1 pm till 7 or 8, then lots of hours on the weekends. My Saturdays started at about 6 am and we finished around mid night. No videos back then. One of my jobs was to get the game film from the University film lab, then splice 3 copies into offense and defense. One copy was sent to our next opponent (along with the preceding game) the other two were for internal use. We also sent out unspliced copies to various alumni clubs. Sundays were just as fun as we had to pick up game films from the airport, and do lots of gopher work for the coaches. It's funny, but I always got my best grades during fall quarter - no time to mess around, you either studied or you were lost. Winter quarter was always my worst because I had too much time on my hands.
I have lots of memories of good times and tough times. Would never have traded that experience for anything except for maybe a healthy heart and the opportunity to actually play!! I had the size - 6'5" 225 (which was good for back then). But with my heart problem I stayed trim and went through most of school about 210. Too bad you won't be at E2B. Would love to share some stories with you.
It's always funny when some idiot yells it on accident when we're receiving the ball. The chants funny, if you dont like it dont say it, but also dont act like a bunch of drunk college kids should be perfect little gentlemen during a damn football game.
I think it's a stupid chant regardless of your age.
I don't want to offend anyone, however, think what you want about it but it is all for fun. I have been sitting in Block "O" South for every game so far this year and have been yelling it as loud as I can. We know that Special Teams is not traditionally an exciting aspect of the game and doing this makes me get a little pumped for it and for our defense coming onto the field. I know it is not "age appropriate" but we are college students. If you bring your kid to an OSU game you should know what is coming. Just clarifying something: is there a real problem with us saying this? No member of the administration or athletic department has asked us to stop (maybe they just can't tell but they still haven't told us anything) so until that happens it will not stop for a while at this point. Just my point of view from being an avid fan for 20+ years and finally getting tickets the past two years to every home game.

"It could be worse" is a feeble rationalization.
I clicked on it... I regretted it immediately...
@LUCKYDAWG685
I'm a former student-athlete at Ohio State. I was also a member of both the Student Athlete Advisory Board and the Sportsmanship Council (http://bestfans.osu.edu/history). You might be familiar with the latter, which exists in order to deter and decrease the chances of something like this tarnishing the legacy that the school has tried to build by coining the phrase, "Best Fans in The Land!" I was present at the Penn State game last season. I sat in the south endzone expecting to cheer my ass off as I once did, but instead I endured that god-awful cheer multiple times throughout the game. It made me feel like I was back in high school. This day in age, knowing that multiple career ending injuries are as much a staple of the game as the pageantry and tradition, that cheer actually made me feel quite uncomfortable. I graduated from OSU in 2006, so I couldn't imagine how the hell the cheer came into existence right after the Sportsmanship Council was reformed. Furthermore, having to hear it against a team which suffered one of those aformentioned injuries (Adam Taliaferro). That cheer probably does bring energy to the student section, but it's the student sections responsibilty to bring the excitement to the games by going batshit crazy and cheering as loudly as possible (whilst also trying to be as respectful as possible to the opponent). Now maybe it's just me, but as a former athlete, I was always more aware of an opposing crowd for being unruly pre, during, and postgame. Anyone is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't really think that this cheer accomplishes much in the intimidation realm. We get it, it's cool to hear cursing on TV, but I think the shtick is up. There really is no country for yelling silliness such as this. My comments here may or may not make sense, but it's time we take some accountability and be above the sophomoric stupidity. We're Ohio State, not _______ [insert HS rival's name here]. We truly are better than this. In all honesty, I wish our band would play more music, even if it is some sort of pop music to lead students into cheers. Piping music in does NOTHING to get the crowd going. It's the bands responsibility to come up with better ways to get a feel for what the students react to, so this is as much on them as it is the students. I really do hope that this comes to an end, even if it means Urban is the one asking for it to stop.
I have no problem with the swearing aspect of it. This chant is just dumb. Be more creative.
IMHO, I think our image has been tarnished enough these last couple of years. That's all we need is for some national media to pick up on this and show it to the world as another excuse to hate and bash us even more. I totally understand the "youth" thing, but, it is no excuse for possibly putting the whole university in a bad light. We expect 18 year old freshman football players to 'be accountable', but you aren't willing to do the same.
We are failing to realize one thing right now, I'm assuming none of these comments are being made by a drunken 21 year old. When you're at the game, you're drunk, and you're 21, well it just feels right.
I hate to say I am one who says K'em, or Rip his fg head off, but I do. Not all accept or reject my enthusiasm for buckeye football, my wife will not even watch with me ! I wish our crowd of so many would just let loose . No night games yet so no worries, all will be good in the Shoe.
I have no problem with it, but more creativity would be appreciated.
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
I've sat in Section 28A (East side on the south end but not in the south stands) from 2009-2011 and never heard it. Now this year I am in the North endzone and heard a chant after the O-H-I-O on kickoff but never have been able to make out what they've been saying.
@SONOFBUCKEYE -
You are completely right, except for the fact that I never tried to rationalize the behavior. In fact, at the end I clearly state that I think it's classless, but is not getting worked up over. It's a non-issue to me. Ohio Stadium isn't quite as intimate a venue as the Schott is, therefore a lot of the tactics of the "Buckeye Nuthouse" really work there. Personally, as @WILLIAM stated before, I like my crowd with a bit of an edge. I take a lot of pride in the fact that Ohio Stadium is one of the most intimidating venues in the whole of collegiate football. So while I appreciate the sentiment of the chant, I'm not the biggest fan of the means.
But the bottom line is that I don't care, because it's a silly chant that hurts no one. If it was more akin to some of Penn State fans' well-chronicled exploits, I would be much more vocal in my opposition.
How about we all grow a pair and worry about something else.

@BuckeyeTrack I am sure we all know that multiple serious, and life threatening injuries, occur while playing football. We are not literally wanting someone to go out and knock someone out of the game with a serious injury. If he is a star player returning kicks we may want to knock him out of the game but nothing more than a concussion, at worst. We just want to cheer. Last year's PSU game was very tame compared to normal. I didn't even cheer that much just becuase of how I felt about what had just been revealed about them. I kinda felt a sense of unity with them because we all knew how it feels to have a scandal happen at their university. It may be immature of us to yell something like that, but again, we are college students. We want to enjoy the immaturity we have while we can. Most people in college do so if you have a problem with it, fine. You know in games where it is close we are going to be doing a fair amount of stupid things so don't start criticizing us. You were probably in our shoes at one point or another as well.

People have been yelling this, though not in such unison, at games since my freshman year in 2004.
The chant makes our university look classless. If anything, I hope the students stop doing chants that involve cursing simply because it is disrespectful to the parents who attend the games with their children. We all want to be proud of The Ohio State University. So student section, please make us proud and come up with something better...something I can teach my 4 year old nephew.
^That's a joke right? I pay tuition, I pay for my student tickets out of my pocket. I can chant what I want. Plus this pretty much remains within the South Stands, which is primarily all students. Honeslty the reaction to this is a bit disappointing, the overall view that this is "classless" or "not original" is exactly why our stadium atmosphere sucks outside out of the student section. When did we start caring about whether or not a chant that clearly gets the students going, seems a bit classless? I mean as a student I'm open to suggestions, but this gives our stadium an edge and I like that. Being nice isn't intimidating, being edgy is. I'm not condoning ridiculous acts like verbally abusing someone or assaulting them, but you know why people fear playing at LSU? Because their crowd is rowdy, ours is rather calm in comparison.
Not a joke. Just a difference a principles, I guess. It is possible to be intimidating without using foul language.
Sure it may be possible, but I found the "Bullsh*t" chant that reigned throughout Baltimore's stadium on Sunday night impressive. It makes intimidation as a crowd far simpler.
Classless is booing the opponent as they take the field, and it regrettably comes from the whole stadium almost every game. But hey, people pay good money for their tickets -- the right to boo is included in the price.
Frankly, I don't care what comes from the south stands -- they're kids and it's their school...they have plenty of time to grow up.
"The revolution will be televised."
My wife and I attended a game last year, and I never heard it. Disappointed thats the best the students can do, but I guess it is what it is. What about young children? Earplugs?
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
My 8-year old has been to games the last 2 years and has never said anything (it's not super clear/loud). Rest assured, if he'd've heard it, he would've lit up and given an, "Aaaaawwwww!"
"The revolution will be televised."
