Why isn't Ohio State ranked in the preseason AP poll? OSU is ranked in pretty much every media outlet's top-25. USC was ranked in the preseason poll the 2 years they were on probation.
Oh, and someone gave Michigan a first place vote.

What did we do last year that would warrant us being ranked? I don't care how many starters we return they have to prove they're a top 25 team this season.

Regardless of wether or not we deserve to be ranked we have been slotting as high as 12 and as low as 20 in almost every single preseason poll I have seen over the course of the summer. Odd that we aren't in a similar range then in the AP poll. Considering we know that past history shows sanctioned programs are still voted on in this particular poll it does seem odd, doesn't really matter but still curious. Who knows though, maybe they changed their policy. Can anyone elaborate?
Our honor defend we will fight to the end for Ohio..
Like I said, Buckeyejason, almost every poll I've seen on the interwebs has Ohio State ranked around 20th...including ESPN and Sports Illustrated. We didn't even get one point.
I thought we weren't allowed to be because of the post season ban?
http://collegespun.com/acc/ap-poll-released-usc-no-1we are ranked in the ap poll. #18. espn omitted us out of their poll. it goes from 17 to 19. pretty mature espn. #trolls
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
USC wasn't ranked at all last year..same thing with us.

Luke just posted that we're 18th. Why don't they show up on ESPN's list? Now I'm starting to think something is fishy again.

EDIT: BuckeyeEddie, I can't believe this bullsh*t.
we aren't allowed in the coaches poll. we are in the ap poll
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
me either. espn sucks so hard
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
ranked 18th, that seems about right
if you look at the espn poll, it doesnt show any one ranked 18th
Who cares if we're ranked this year...unless we go undefeated and beat MSU, Wisky, and tTUN pretty good, then OSU won't even be in discussions of split NC (we lose anyone of those games and forget about it). Face the facts folks, as far as rankings and OSU...it doesn't really matter...this year anyhow. Next year is a totally different matter;-)

Conspiracy theory at espn alive and well it seems...lol. We are skipped in their online poll (as someone mentioned above...goes from 17 to 19). Mobile version of the site has 18 listed as OHIOST instead of our typed out name like the rest. Guess that doesn't link properly on their site. I smell an AACC grad working in their web dep't...lol. No seriously, they stink... =P
CONSPIRACY!!!!!
Maybe wait to see if there is a reason for before crying about ESPN hating us. I mean, we are ranked in THEIR poll...not the COACHES Poll(which we are ineligible for), but THEIR own power rankings. Oh, and we are ranked higher in those rankings than the AP poll...you know what other sportswriters think of OSU. So...if you look at this, ESPN thinks more highly of OSU(14th) than sportwriters across the country(18th). Hmm...
They just changed it. Now they list us at 18th.
I wish I had taken a screen shot.
Just because someone points out an obvious mistake that ESPN made doesn't mean it's a "CONSPIRACY!" It could have been a rogue employee who hates OSU or maybe they did it to troll some fans (we've all seen how they erased OSU's vacated wins, but never touched dozens of other schools' vacated wins). Maybe they mistakingly thought OSU can't be in the AP poll, or maybe it was a typo. It doesn't matter. They made a mistake as some here pointed out. That doesn't make them conspiracy theorists.
I'm more of the opinion that it doesn't matter what we're ranked this year (helps another B1G team if they beat us). But, results on the field will matter going into next year, at least some.
By the way, after that lawsuit you are at best willfully ignorant if you think ESPN doesn't have something against OSU.
PEN - 1) What does the lawsuit have to do with anything? All they wanted was to have ALL records released. You act like ESPN led the charge in all the investigative pieces on OSU, yet if you actually RESEARCH where the info came from you would see ESPN simply reported what others dug up 2) If ESPN has "something against OSU" then why are they devoting several weeks of coverage soley to OSU football? Why does ESPN's staff think more of OSU's team this year(14th in the power rankings) than the AP sports writers(18th)? The conspiracy theorists like to conveniently omit info that doesn't support their opinion while at the same time reading too much into simple issues. 3) What other teams don't show vacated wins? USC and PSU's wins show as being vacated.
If it was Hoke that ranked Michigan #1, I will have to start questioning some of his credibility and reasoning. Ex: calling us Ohio, the Toussaint issue and now this. He is such a homer (I'm trying to be nice), he can't think straight, which could bode well for us.
Buckz4evr, this is the AP poll, not the coaches poll.
This is the AP poll so Hoke wouldn't be voting.
Our honor defend we will fight to the end for Ohio..
1. Make small disrespect to OSU that only fans would notice
2. Thousands of fans are then linked to the ESPN page to see how we were disrespected
3. More ESPN page hits and profits! Yay!
I took a screen shot of this occurence, but I have no idea how to post the image.
Nice, Nilespacman! I don't know either. You used to be able to upload a file, but now it looks like only links to images are allowed.
just click browse server. still able to post pictures

Agree on the lawsuit.
Cincy-
Uh, maybe you should do some more "RESEARCH" on things posted on this site:
Article on ESPN's selective records on vacated wins:
http://www.elevenwarriors.com/2011/07/ESPN-the-worldwide-leader-in-selec...
And, you don't think that unprecedented lawsuit, which the court decided on unanimously and concluded it had no merits, about ESPN's incomparable records request doesn't say anything about ESPN itself?
I'll quote Ramzy and Marcus Hartman's tweets:
If you want a reason for why ESPN does things that put OSU in a good light from time to time see Ramzy's second tweet above. ESPN is a large entity, so it's a given that not all parts of the organization will have the same opinion. However, that lawsuit is a big example of something that goes all the way to the top. The upper management has to be behind a big lawsuit like that, and that's a decision made with public relations in mind.
Also, ESPN's reporting on OSU was extensive compared to other organizations as detailed at the end of the article linked above.
So, what was it you were saying about omitting information? Because you seem to neglected huge parts of the reality of that lawsuit and appear to be unaware to ESPN's selective record keeping detailed in the link posted above.
You're accusations of conspiracy theory are nothing but ad hominem, and unfounded at that, attacks against fellow Buckeyes. As I said before, ESPN made a mistake (no matter what the actual reason or if there even was a reason) and commenters were right to point it out. It doesn't make them conspiracy theorists.
ESPN is smart. they know how many of us buckeyes are out there. If they do what they did today, how many of us shared that link to friends via social network and got them more views. It's a business...
