I was watching a lot of preseason picks for the naional champion and a lot of people are high on usc. i look at this usc team a lot like oklahoma over the past decade. heisman caliber qb great recieving corps good rb stable..but a lot of question marks on defense. it seems as if coming into the season every year people see the great offense and expect it to make up for the lackluster defense while it usually ends up costing them 1-3 games. i just think they and oklahoma are both overrated because of their problems on defense and will both lose 2 regular season games because of it. just wanted to get everyone elses thoughts if a great offense is enough to carry a subpar defense and what everyone thinks usc and oklahoma will do this year.

The defense will probably cost them in one of their games against Oregon, but at least their offensiive line is good enough to keep them from getting obliterated by Alabama/LSU's defensive line.
You actually make great points about the Oklahoma comparisons but remember this is usc, and the pac-12 in general play a little bit better defense than the Big 12 IMO, I do not think 2 losses but probably one. To be honest the only 3 teams in college football that I would be terrified to go up against on a yearly basis because of the type of talent they can acquire and attract are USC, Bama and LSU. I like our chances any year against anyone else now that we have a competent coaching staff.
I don't see their schedule presenting much of a challenge. Oregon will be a classic Track 10 track meet so that is a possibility. Maybe a challenge on the road from Stanford. They will crush ND. Look out for one of those road games that you don't see coming ... Utah, Wash, Ariz.
Electric offense, solid but not great defense. I see them dropping a game or two an playing in the Rose Bowl.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
I think Texas beats Oklahoma this year. Just a hunch.
USC doesn't play Texas, though.

Auburn won on a great offense and questionable defense. I think USC's defense is less questionable.
If USC is losing to anyone in-season, it'll be Utah. Loaded with seniors, VERY good defense, tons of experience on offense. Plus it's in Rice-Eccles Stadium, one of the most underrated in the country. That student section gets wild.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
This isn't Pete Carroll's USC, I don't see kiffin as comparable to him. Got loads of talent but will they be coached up or down.
Wherever you are, there you be!
It's worth noting that when Auburn won it was against one of the weakest fields in recent memory, and while their defense wasn't great as a whole, the line could, and did, take over games.
